Everyone tells you that when you have a baby everything changes. To some degree that is true. To some degree I feel like our life is basically the same just this little person hangs out with us all the time. There have been a few changes I was not prepared for though and today I want to talk about those.
3 Mom Changes I Was Not Prepared For
The Exhaustion: I was prepared to not sleep when Liam was a newborn. The first night we were home with him I may have slept 2 hours total. Eventually we got him on a schedule and now we have a baby that sleeps 12 hours every night with 2 great naps every day. Yet, I am still exhausted. Why you ask? Well there is the laundry, cleaning bottles, changing diapers, carrying a 23 lb baby up and down stairs all day, plus working with the blog full time, being a wife, daughter, and friend, working out, and trying to find 30 minutes a day for myself. You guys it is EXHAUSTING! Most nights I am asleep before 9 PM. One thing that has been helping me though is INVIA. Not only has INVIA helped me cut back on the caffeine, but it has helped me drink more water! Double win. INVIA not only tastes great; its simple yet effective formula and high-quality ingredients are proven to enhance focus and performance for the very best version of you – wherever your life takes you. Drinking INVIA a couple times per day replaces both coffee and soda consumption. It also adds to daily value of water consumption like I said. I have noticed a HUGE increase in my water consumption the past few months. Plus it’s just easy you just pour it in water, stir a little and boom! Delish!

These are awesome for travel and to throw in your gym or work bag or purse. INVIA comes in two amazing flavors, mixed berry and lemonade tea. I honestly love both so much! It has 100mg of caffeine the same as a cup of coffee. Plus it’s sugar free. There is just no downside! So use the code “START50” for 50% off your first order today!
The Loneliness: Being home with a baby all day can get really lonely. I try to get out at least once a day. We meet friends for walks or at the park. We go to swim class and little gym. We head to story time etc. But when Liam is napping or the days where he is extra fussy and we stay home it gets really lonely. Sometimes it can be depressing. I love him and love having a baby, but I know my other moms can relate that some days it can be lonely.
The Fear: Oh my gosh, I worry about everything. Is he eating enough? Sleeping enough? Is he too warm? Too cold? Is he breathing? The list goes on. No one told me that once you have a baby you would just be afraid of every little thing. I try to remember to relax and that he’s fine but the mom fear is real!
I am glad I am able to be open and honest with you guys about what is on my heart. Being a mom is the absolute best job and I love every second.
What is one mom change or just life change in general you haven’t been prepared for?
I can only imagine the fear that the changes in your life brought for you! I truly admire all moms – raising a child definitely is a full-time job in itself!

Constant sacrifice! I’m a mom of 4 and I thought things will be easier. Guess what? The bigger the kids, the bigger the issues. My youngest is 8 now and I actually wished I could go back to the days when they were all 8 and below (except for the diapers though). Oh, I became a “cryer” too after I became a mom.
I wish I could get to sleep before 9. Heck, I’d be happy to be able to go to bed by 11, but there are just so many things to get done, it never happens. I’m so tired all the time, and I could definitely use something to help.
My kids are 16/11 and I’ still exhausted. I have high homes form when they’re 30:)
Lonliness, absolutely! Sooooo been there!
Fear is definitely something I hadn’t expected! It gets so intense!
Girl for real all you Mommas are super heroes! I haven’t experienced this (yet) and it kinda terrifies me. You are awesome!
Loss of my independence. I wouldn’t change being a mom for the world, but I knew it was a sacrifice to be made. Now I juggle with time for myself and time for my kids. Of course the kids come first, but I miss getting my hair, and nails done without having to make schedule sacrifices. Personal time. Now, a 10 minute shower is a huge deal for me.
I was not prepared for the constant talking. I should have been, though, since my husband is also a constant talker!
The loneliness was surprising too! We’re here for you mama!
I actually laughed at the “Is he breathing?” part. I do the same thing. I’ll ask my husband after he checks on the baby after he coughs or moans in his sleep, “Is he breathing?” My husband (bless him) just looks at me, smiles, and says “yes dear.” I think the fear is the one thing I wish I had been warned about. I never realized I could worry this much and so often.
I’m really afraid of the exhaustion of being a parent! Plus I’ll probably worry all the time which will only make me more exhausted
It does seem like all the books you read before hand help but don’t prepare you for everything. The constant worrying about your kids is a big one.
It’s funny how mom life is different than I ever imagined and now as I am in the teen raising years, I am at a loss again! Haha. It’s so different with a 15 year old and then her brother isn’t far behind her. I am always exhausted, always. Running around a lot too, I just call myself Mom taxi 🙂
Yes the worry! I knew I would be a worrier, but I find myself worrying about the weirdest little things!
This sounds amazing!! I haven’t heard of it!
I don’t have any children (yet) but I can imagine it would be really scary. I know I freak out about things just with my own nieces and nephew.
I’ve never heard of INVIVA but it sounds great. I really need to keep upping my water intake.

You are not alone. All moms feel the exact same way especially when kids are little. With time it does get a bit easier but you will always worry. Just when you think you got everything figured out, another milestone hits to turn your world upside down.
YES!!!! to all 3 of the mom changes! Another for me was the changing and loss of friendships. That was a huge surprise to me, and disappointment in realizing that people who I thought were good friends quickly disappeared once I had kids because they werent in the same life stage as me.
Yes! I hate this idea that if the kiddo sleeps well you can’t still be tired. The house is a fulltime job all on its own!
Love this! I’m definitely use to the no sleep now haha but I still have a hard time realizing that I just don’t have enough time in my day to get everything done that I want done! I’m learning, but more importantly, my kiddos are teaching me! Motherhood isn’t easy but it’s definitely worth it!
The exhaustion is something I for sure wasn’t prepared for. But it wasn’t as bad as I did think it would be. I find everyone kind of made it worse than what it was. Now expecting #8 I’m like… I get it!
I don’t get enough sleep, although I try. And definitely having a messier home. I work full time so cleaning is hard to come by! There’s always chaos somewhere after one place is all neat and tidy!
Yep, you pegged all three right on the head. They all come in force but moms can push through!
The exhaustion is real…and my kids are now 11, 8 & 4. (Still exhausted here.)
