5 Healthy Habits To Start Today!

Being healthy is a way of life. I haven’t always been a healthy person. Once upon a time I drank 6 Dr Peppers a day, and ate mac and cheese and pizza most days. I never drank water, exercised, or even washed my face before bed every night (gross)! But changing a few habits can really improve your life. I want to share 5 healthy habits to start today that you won’t regret tomorrow!

5 Healthy Habits To Start Today

Being Informed: Reading articles, subscribing to things like The Skimm, and watching the news are great ways to stay informed. I tend to save a lot of articles on Facebook (awesome feature) to read at the gym, or when I’m feeding the baby, etc. Even reading one article a day can make you feel a lot more informed and it’s a mentally healthy habit to get into.

Hydrating: So you saw my confession at the top about my insane soda intake right? Well this was when I was about 20. Well I quit cold turkey around that time and I have not had a soda since. That’s when I started drinking a lot more water and even now it can be a struggle sometimes to stay hydrated. That’s why we are LOVING our new Brita Stream Pitcher. The Stream Pitcher is Brita’s NEW innovation, featuring Filter-As-You-Pour™ Technology. Brita Stream filters water 10x faster than the market leading pitcher system while also filtering chlorine taste and odor. This is perfect if you don’t want to 1.) spend a ton of time and 2.) spend a ton of money. We would literally sit by the sink to wait and wait for our pitcher to fill and filter. Now I fill it up all the way in a few seconds and then it filters as you poor. We now always have a full cold pitcher in our fridge which makes drinking water a TON easier. I try to drink 8-10 glasses a day.

Moving Your Body: Exercise is amazing. I am one of those people who LOVES to work out. Not because of a weight loss factor, but because it makes me a happier person, better wife, better mom, better daughter, better friend, and a better version of myself. Even if you go for a walk with a friend, or do a 15 minute yoga sequence in your living room just moving your body will make your day better and is a healthy habit to start ASAP!

Taking Care Of Your Skin: Like I said above as well I was that girl in college who went to bed with makeup on, and had no skincare routine other than washing my face in the shower. Obviously as an adult I have taken the time to form a great skincare routine. I have shared a few skincare routines on the blog before. Taking care of your skin is such an important and healthy habit to get into. This also means applying sunscreen EVERY DAY! Something a lot of people (myself included) forget to do.

Getting Your Greens: My mom will tell anyone that getting me to eat veggies as a kid was just not going to happen. I hated them! In fact the only time I would eat salad is when it only had lettuce and Italian dressing. In college I started getting veggies as sides more and became a veggie lover. About 7 years ago I started drinking green smoothies daily and it has been a life changer. I have talked about my love for green smoothies a ton here but we have one every single day. I also snack on veggies throughout the day. We try to include veggies in every meal we can. Hopefully Liam will grow up loving them!

I would love to know if you do any of these 5 healthy habits to start today? If not will you?

Excellent post! I love the first one – Be informed. We forget that that’s part of a healthy life. I also gave up soda not long ago and have upped my water intake. It makes a different in how I feel and how my skin looks. Such a little thing we miss too often.

My husband and I go through soda like crazy, too, which is why we don’t even keep it in the house anymore! (Except during emergencies :-)) Hydrating is definitely the most difficult thing to do consistently, at least for me, but it’s so necessary. It’s amazing the difference it makes!

Even though I have increased my hydration tremendously, I still don’t think I drink enough! I just do not like the taste of water though, ugh… Well, unless I am EXTREMELY thirsty!

Thanks for the reminder. I do not have issues with drinking plain water. I love it! What I need to work on is getting enough greens in my diet. As busy as I am, I go for a quick drive to a fast food chain for a burger and fries. That has got to stop.
