This past weekend Andrew and I went to Four Seasons Resort and Club at Las Colinas (which is in a suburb of Dallas) for a little staycation getaway. Life can get so busy, and when you’re married you can get so used to your routines and schedules that you need a little refresher to have some alone time away from everything. I wanted to share 5 ways to make the most out of a weekend staycation to ensure you get the most out of your time!
5 Ways To Make The Most Out Of A Weekend Staycation
Plan It Out
We had our weekend pretty planned out. Not to the point where we were go go go 24/7, but just that we knew what we wanted to do each day and tried to get as much in as we could. When you have a weekend staycation you don’t have as much time as when you go on a week long vacation but you want to make the most of it. We knew Friday we wanted to relax as much as possible. We explored the property and checked out all the pools, bars, and restaurants, as well as the insane fitness center. We then decided to order room service for dinner so that we could cuddle up in bed and watch a movie. We had an amazing view of the 18th hole on the golf course so we could people watch.
Splurge
Listen, if you are staying somewhere like the Four Seasons you should splurge as much as possible. We wanted to have some spa time, so Andrew got a massage and I got a luxury pedicure. I would not normally have a 90 minute pedicure, but that’s what splurging is all about, right? Andrew could not get over how amazing his massage was. In his words: “Prior to the massage I relaxed in a room that not only had a giant jacuzzi but had a cooling bath as well. The idea was to go in the jacuzzi then go in the cold water to really relax the muscles and reduce tension and stress. The oils used smelled great. She observed I had a lot of tension in my back. She focused on my back, neck, and jaw muscles using a special technique that completely relaxed my jaw muscles. I clench and grind my teeth really badly while I sleep and this is the most relaxed my jaw muscles have ever felt.” Splurging can also mean room type. We were so fortunate to be able to stay in a villa overlooking the golf course which was such a treat. When I walked into our room I could not get over how gorgeous an spacious it was. If you are ever at the Four Seasons in Las Colinas I highly suggest a villa. There is simply nothing like it.
Indulge
There is not an end to the amazing food you can eat at the Four Seasons. The first night we indulged in some room service. I had a cheeseburger (amazing) and Andrew had a grilled chicken/avocado sandwich that looked insanely good. He also had a salad that I may or may not have been envious of. Whenever I stay at a hotel that has amazing cookies I just have to order some and nothing is quite as indulgent as warm chocolate chip cookies. Talk about melt in your mouth goodness. I wish I had taken some home! The breakfasts were amazing. From the bottomless lattes, to crispy bacon, to pastry baskets, and eggs any way you could possibly think of I have no idea how we narrowed it down. I will be having dreams about those cinnamon twists forever. After we splurged at the spa on Saturday, we headed to the pool. It was super crowded so I suggest snagging a chair early. If I could go back, I would have put our stuff on chairs early in the day to reserve a spot. But the lunch was amazing. We split this queso, guac, and salsa starter and I had a hot dog because clearly I am 5. Saturday night we indulged at LAW, the new restaurant at Four Seasons. I can’t say enough good things. Even the bread and butter was unlike any I have had. I had beef tenderloin and Andrew had grilled jumbo prawns and we split a bunch of sides. The drinks were also so good. I mean just look how beautiful they are! Instagram worthy for sure. Finally I have to talk about the Sunday brunch. So good that you should probably not eat for 12 hours before at least. Pasta, sushi, waffles, endless desserts, omelets, you name it they have it. I won’t disclose how many times we went back for more.
Unplug
If you are going on a staycation you need to unplug. I did not bring my laptop (huge thing for me) and really didn’t do much in the way of being on my phone. I did Snapchat quite a bit, but when I wasn’t posting I really tried to just be in the moment. I took the opportunity during my pedicure to read and even while we were by the pool I really just people watched and enjoyed TALKING to my husband. Crazy concept, right? When we were in our room we really tried to watch things together, talk, and just enjoy each others company. No need for phone and laptop time. That’s what you’re trying to get away from.
Utilize Amenities To Make It Special
There are so many amazing amenities at the Four Seasons. We spent a lot of time in the fitness center. I was planning to take a barre class, but my head was hurting so I opted to do cardio and weights instead so that if I needed to take a break I could. But the barre/yoga studio was amazing. We may have snuck in to look around. The group cycle studio is also really nice. You wouldn’t even know you are at a hotel because it feels like a boutique fitness studio. They offer an aerial yoga class that I really wish I had been able to take. Even if you aren’t into classes, the cardio equipment and weights are state of the art. It doesn’t hurt that the entire fitness area just got an 8 million dollar makeover. Another great amenity is golfing. The AT&T Byron Nelson Golf Tournament takes place every May and is held at the Four Seasons, so to stay their golf course is nice would be an understatement. You can play 18 holes or even just practice your putting. There are several pools to enjoy. An indoor pool for laps, a family pool that shows movies on Friday nights (Frozen anyone?) and the Agave main pool that is the place to be! My favorite thing though has to be the app. I mentioned it in my packing post but y’all this app is amazing. All hotels need it. Do you want extra pillows? Use the app and they are at your door in minutes. More towels or a toothbrush? Use the app. We actually pre-ordered our breakfast for Saturday morning on Friday night using the app. We woke up hungry Saturday and within 15 minutes our breakfast was there! Also, when it was time to check out I checked out from the app (no lines), I got our car pulled around front (no waiting), and someone came to help with our bags (no calling). If you plan to stay at any Four Seasons you NEED this app.
These are only 5 ways to make the most out of a weekend staycation, but really I could go on for another 1,000 words. Just remember that it’s precious time together and to enjoy it!
If you have been on any Staycations I would love to know what your favorite parts are.
Will you be planning a Staycation soon?
A huge thank you to Four Seasons Resort Dallas for hosting us. We had an incredible and unforgettable weekend and we will be back soon!
In partnership with Four Seasons Resort Dallas.
This is such a great idea. Will definitely be doing this (for myself) soon.
You surely are tempting me here…LOL. I don’t care if it is staycation as long as it resembles a vacation I am down for that. Fabulous pictures!
loved this post .
I agree on the indulge and splurge. We don’t have the time or money to get away very often. When we do we go all out and don’t worry about cost. It is all about the area, comfort and food. Looks like you have a awesome time.
We were going to head to the mountains for our 1 year anniversary but I think we have decided to have a staycation in downtown Raleigh and do some things we wouldn’t normally do!
I love staycations and these are great tips! Thanks for sharing!
I have a staycation coming up and you’ve given me some great ideas. Thanks! 🙂
That is a gorgeous pool they have there! I’d stay there just for that!
Looks like you had an awesome time! A staycation would be a perfect way to fall back in love with your city.
This looks amazing. My hubby and I are both entrepreneurs and we have 3 year old twins. We could definitely use a staycation!
We LOVE staycations!! I like these tips, they’re great ones!
Love staycations!! Obsessed with all the techy-ness available at the 4 Seasons! Looks like you had a great time and splurged!
Looks amazing! I plan to lots more stay actions now that I live in Florida because there is so much to do so close. Thanks for all the great tips.
How wonderful. When I first read the title I thought you meant staycation as in staying at home, but I soon realized you meant a local but luxurious hotel weekend stay. What a fun idea. Local luxury. I think I’ll try it. 🙂
I love stay cations! They can be so much fun with just a little bit of planning!
Staycations are so fun! A massage is my favorite way to celebrate near home 🙂
This sounds like a great way to make a weekend staycation relaxing and fun!
We’re doing a Houston staycation next weekend! Thanks for the tips, I’m so excited!

Everything about your staycation looks absolutely amazing! It definitely makes me want to plan one.
We are having a staycation in Louisville for my birthday weekend but I am so jealous of your stay. A beautiful place and photos.
Great idea! Luckily I live in a place (Washington, DC) where I can indulge in this type of behavior quite often!
Staycations are the best. They’re like power naps! What I find the most helpful – whether for a staycation or a legit vacation – is unplugging. It’s the best feeling!
It sounds like you had a fabulous staycation! We get so busy with our various responsibilities and schedules that we’re just happy to find time for a pizza and Netflix night. But getting away can be so good for a relationship. Glad you guys had a great time!
I am seriously so jealous of your staycation, everything looks gorgeous! I’m officially shopping around for a staycation destination!
ideally one with amazing food and a chance to unplug.
My “staycations” typically involve me just being alone and not seeing any friends or anything – so I can get a WHOLE BUNCH of work done! Ha! Luckily work for me is FUN so I don’t mind 😉
Great tips! I need to schedule more staycations!
How awesome! We did a little staycation when we got engaged and it was a dream.
xoxo, Jenny
You guys must have had a blast! Four Seasons Resort looks amazing. I’ve never done a staycation and it is definitely something that I am looking forward to.
Most definitely yummy food and cocktails can ease my staycation and make it even better not to mention relaxing. Thnaks for sharing your tips =)
Yes! Unplug is a big, important one!!
That place is screaming my name. I would love to have a relaxing staycation soon. I hope me and my husband can free up a weekend on our busy schedules so we can unwind and just totally relax.
Awesome post, Neely! Making the most out of a staycation is so important because you can enjoy a little getaway close to home! Great tips 🙂
Looks like a glorious staycation!
WE LOVE STAYCATIONS!!! Such an easy way to reconnect, and spend for less. Food looks amazing.
I would love to have a staycation someday, it’s my dream come true. So glad that you enjoyed your weekend.
Wow that resort is beautiful! I live in Euless, so maybe I’ll be able to convince my husband to have a staycation there sometime. I’m glad you had a relaxing weekend. 🙂
Oh my gosh your stay at the Four Seasons resort sounded amazing. I could totally go for a staycation like that!
I think unplugging is really important because it allows you to focus on your loved ones. We are planning a weekend getaway in a couple of weeks.
You explained your staycation so well!! I Lived Vicariously through you for a second and it was awesome! I never knew hotels had classes at their fitness centers! I totally need to find some random hotel with a bunch of stuff to do for a weekend now! Smart and Lucky!
