At 38 years old finding shorts that work for not only my body but my age and stage of life can be tough. Most of my days are spent with my kids and I always want to make sure I am not only dressed appropriately but I am also comfortable. I know a lot of women struggle to find the best shorts for summer (especially moms) so I wanted to share a round-up of my favorites.
Best Shorts For Summer (For Moms)
Denim: I find denim to be the hardest to find. I am not someone who wants to wear super short shorts. I am also incredibly picky. I have big hips, a butt, and a small waist so finding denim can be tricky. I also have muscular thighs. I have had the best luck with Frame denim and Jcrew. This pair and this pair are my favorite pairs of Frame denim shorts. They are a splurge but they fit amazing. This pair from Jcrew factory is great and is a great price at under $35. This pair from Jcrew is around $80 so a good median price point for denim shorts. It’s not super short and very flattering.
Dressy: I wouldn’t necessarily call all of these shorts dressy but they are a step up from denim. shorts you could absolutely wear with dressy shoes and a nice top. Love this chambray pair from Jcrew factory. I think these faux leather shorts are so comfortable and great to wear out.
Athletic: See below for biker shorts but other kinds of athletic shorts I like are the Tracker shorts from Lululemon and also the Track That shorts. To me, they are the best if you want a little length. Not too short but doesn’t feel long at all. I also really like the Zella aero shorts. These are a little shorter than the others but not too short. The Alo stride shorts are also so good. They are a little more pricey but hold up so well.
Biker:The Beyond Yoga biker shorts are my favorite out there for workouts. They hold everything in without feeling tight at all. I also really like the Lululemon align shorts but these are not good for strenuous workouts. If you want some good lounge/errand running biker shorts these from Target are awesome. They are also only $12. These high-rise biker shorts from Girlfriend Collective are really price-friendly and perfect for workouts.
Shorts are a necessity when you live on the Gulf Coast like I do. I tend to prefer jean shorts because most any shirt matches, but I like to have a variety of shorts for different occasions.
I’m so picky with my shorts and over the years I’ve purchased so many that I’ve wound up hating after a couple of weeks just because they didn’t fit me right. However, you’ve got some great ones listed here!
