Packing Essentials For A Staycation

I can always tell about mid way through the summer because I am exhausted, and any holiday weekend is long gone or still six weeks away at least. Andrew and I decided that was just too long for a relaxing weekend, so we decided to have a little staycation weekend this weekend. Andrew is taking a half day from work on Friday and we are heading to Four Seasons Resort in Las Colinas about 40 minutes from our house. The best part about this is that we are still relatively close to home. No long drive or dealing with an airport. The even better part is that once you arrive at the Four Seasons you feel like you are a long ways away from city life. I wanted to share a few packing essentials for a staycation with you because, if you are anything like me, you have a tendency to over pack.

Packing Essentials For A Staycation

FS-Staycation

First of all, you need the basics like undies, bras, socks, PJs, etc. I hate to have to tell people that, but we’ve all been there when you forget something like a strapless bra.

Then you need to think about what you are going to be doing. Are you making fancy dinner reservations? Are you going to the spa? A fitness class? Will you be lounging by the pool? Will you play golf? So many questions, right? That’s because there is SO MUCH TO DO at the Four Seasons. What’s on our agenda? I plan to take a barre class, head to the spa with my husband, and enjoy a fancy dinner at least one night for starters. So I wanted to make sure I had some workout clothes that would work for a barre class and a set to hit the gym the next day. Then of course I needed a swimsuit and cover up for lots of pool time. Plus, a cute hat and sunnies to protect my face. I always throw in a pair of cut off shorts and an easy tee for lounging around. This Wildfox sweater is perfect to throw on to go walk around in the morning or go sit by the pool late at night while soaking your feet and chatting about life.

This dress that I have above is a current favorite for summer! It’s so comfy and easy to wear with sandals. It’s perfect for a dinner date or even a bridal or baby shower!

Then of course things like my iPad (loaded with books and magazines), and my trusty Vera Bradley cosmetics bag full of the essentials (basic makeup, toiletries, and skincare).

To top it off I plan to take the two pairs of sandals above and a pair of running shoes.

Something very cool that all Four Seasons hotels offer is their free app. You can download the app in the Apple’s App Store or Google Play. Once downloaded, you can create an account and while you are on your way you can actually check in. Another thing you can do is have things waiting for you in your room. Say you want extra pillows or perhaps a bottle of Rosé or even warm chocolate chip cookies. Boom, just request it on the app! While you are staying there you can order room service, book a spa service, make dinner reservations, and request ANYTHING you need from toiletries to towels and more. The app is AMAZING. Clearly one of the perfect packing essentials for a staycation that isn’t difficult to pack 😉

I will be back next week with a full recap of everything we did and TONS of pictures. I can’t wait to tell you guys all about it! But now I need to finish packing!

What are your packing essentials for a staycation?

  1. For me, the most important thing for a staycation is comfort. Yes, I still want to look cute, but just like you I would pack shorts and a few comfy staples.

  2. Staycations are SO underrated! Josh and I recently did this for our birthday weekend (His is in March and mine is in April). So we went about 30 minutes away to a gorgeous hotel that’s located in the mountains of Pa. where there’s skiing/snowboarding, golfing, and an amazing spa. We essentially had a weekend away in the mountains and splurged at the spa. I made sure to pack for all different types of weather since April in the north can be tricky. It could rain, snow, hail–you name it! Haha! Great post, Neely!

  3. I’ve never done a staycation but now i’m dying to. I need time away and my hubby & I are building a house instead of a vacation this year so this sounds like the perfect idea! I’m going to try to talk him into this tonight!

  16. Some other things I would pack are running shorts and sneakers! Sometimes having the time away means a nice, refreshing workout–and I’m sure the Four Seasons has a beautiful gym, or just a nice area to walk around outside!

We absolutely LOVE staycations… There is a fabulous hotel close to our home that we try to get to a couple times a year. We have found that using HotelTonight gives us some super discounts!! Because we are fairly open as to when we can go (we do a night or 2)… we can wait until it is a smokin’ deal. If you haven’t checked it out, you should… if you use this code you can get $25 toward your first night! 🙂 JWILEY46 — also another tip is if you download it and are in the general area you can get an even lower rate… a geo-rate… PERFECT for staycations!!!

For me, Staycation is all about comfort and delicious food. I want to eat like a queen and feel like I`m wrapped up in silk or cashmere all weekend long.

That and sleeping in. sleeping in is a MUST.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  41. I dream of going on a trip somewhere and just renting out a house or booking a weekend at a hotel and do nothing but sleep. I will totally disconnect from my phone and gadgets and just get the rest I need so much. The only thing I would probably do other than sleep is to get a full body massage at a spa. 🙂
