Makeup Organization Tips

I have a problem. A makeup hoarding problem. It started simply you know a few trips to target here and there. Maybe there was a sale at CVS. Perhaps I had a Sephora gift card or $10 off at Ulta. Then I went to the Makeup Show in Dallas and then realized I not only have a makeup hoarding problem but I need better organization!

Here are my Makeup Organization Tips I have gathered from being the girl with tons of lip gloss and too many mascaras to count:

1. Take all your makeup out and spread it out. Make sure you look at everything and throw out what is really old, broken(that you can’t fix, junkie etc.

2. Separate the items into what you use daily/more often and things you use for special occasions.

3. Then divide those into sections such as eyes, lips, blush, concealers etc.

4. BUY ONE OF THESE or 4 if you are me

5. Take the makeup you may only use once in a while and organize into more acrylic drawers or something like a caboodle for under your sink. Also if you have tons of makeup bags sitting around you can organize them into makeup bags. I have one for lip stuff, eye stuff, etc.

I tend to go through my makeup a few times a year to keep it organized and I can’t tell you how much these tips have helped me. Something about having things more organized just makes you feel better.

  1. I don’t have enough make-up to organize!! But I actually need to at least get a good bag because I lose the ransom eyeliners in my purse.

These tips are great! I too have become a makeup hoarder. One of my more recent ideas was to have a small make up bag specifically for brushes when I travel. I always found myself having to dig to the bottom of my giant travel bag for the brush I needed, but now I can get to any of them much easier. Its about the size of a pencil case, so it is perfect to use just for brushes!

Or you could REALLY have a problem and have to buy a 9 drawer cabinet and put it in your closet….. LOL! I have this one from Ikea and it is everything: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50192822/ so once your hoarding reaches a new level, get you one of those. Also, I really could use some of those acrylic organizers for things that I keep in the bathroom. I also want some acrylic lipstick organizers… do you have any of those?

Great idea! I go through my makeup stash at least 3 times per year to get rid of the stuff i haven’t used. I like this organizer. It’ll make my stash a little more “tidy”.

You would CRINGE if you saw my makeup organization, if you can even call it that! It’s all over the place, but mostly in a bag. Some of my eye shadows have fallen apart because they get knocked around too much. I’ll have to look at getting some containers, thanks!

Neely, great tips for organizing anything that is small, really…. I’m afraid I only use very little makeup, kept on a shelf in my medicine cabinet, and just a couple of other creams, so not an issue with me. Thanks!

when I moved into a very tiny 2 room place I had to downsize in a big way. My bathroom is to tiny to have anything out. I threw out almost all of it and just kept one set of everything. I realized I do not miss any of it. I found this great flat acrylic organizer that fits in a drawer. It holds my one set of brushes, eye shadows , lipsticks, everything. Now the secret is , do not buy more! I love this tray you have.

  14. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to organize my makeup, being that I don’t have a lot of space, it’s a challenge. This looks so perfect! I was going to get one of those clear cup things and put beads in them for my brushes. It’s a lot cuter than how I just described it LOL!
