It has been raining A LOT here lately. Listen I am not complaining, considering the Feels Like temperature was 119 the day before the rain started. The best part of rainy nights and weekends is it gives us an excuse to cozy up on the couch with a new movie, some popcorn, and veg out. Rainy weather + movie night = perfection!
I was sent a copy of Sing Street (now available on DVD and on iTunes) and y’all it is such a fun cute movie! I am a sucker for anything 80’s and this movie is so up my alley. It’s not usually something Andrew would gravitate towards, but I think he enjoyed it as well. It’s for sure a movie that is perfect to watch with your significant other or by having a fun girls night! It’s truly a feel-good, coming of age story written and directed by John Carney (Once, Begin Again) featuring the ultimate soundtrack of the 80s. Basically my favorite!
SING STREET takes us back to 1980s Dublin seen through the eyes of a 14-year-old boy named Conor who is having a bit of trouble at home with his parents constant arguments and his need to get out of the house. He is at a new school he is unsure of and he is generally unsure about life.
He finds a glimmer of hope in the mysterious, uber-cool and beautiful Raphina. He tries to win her over by asking her to star in his bands music videos. There’s only one problem, he’s not part of a band… yet. She agrees, and now Conor must deliver what he’s promised – calling himself “Cosmo” and immersing himself in the vibrant rock music trends of the decade. He forms a band with his new friends and the real fun begins!
Inspired by writer/director John Carney’s life and love for music, SING STREET shows us a world where music has the power to take us away from the turmoil of everyday life and transform us into something greater.
I wanted to share a few of my favorite makeup and fashion moments from the movie with you guys to get you excited to pick it for your next movie night too!
Big hoop earrings which I wish were still a thing. I love the way Raphina just owns her look. She is so confident that it makes you wish you could rock those looks without feeling any ounce of insecurity.
The guys clothes. So I love 80’s movie that have guys in blazers and collared shirts. I mean they look so dapper don’t they? Something about a guy in a blazer! I guess it’s the school uniforms but even outside of school they look awesome.
Big hair, don’t care! Nothing is more 80s than big hair amirite? The bigger the better and Sing Street doesn’t disappoint with big hair! Raphina rocks it all movie! The perfect 80s heroine!
Tight skirts, and lots of leather! Leather was BIG in the 80’s and there is a LOT of leather in this movie! There are also a lot of fitted skirts and pants. The fashion will take you back for sure.
BRIGHT BRIGHT MAKEUP. One of my favorite things about 80s fashion and beauty is the bright eyeshadow and lipstick. It pops in Sing Street and almost takes on a character of it’s own. This movie will make you want to run to Sephora and buy a brightly colored makeup palette and go to town!
