5 Do’s and A Don’t with Becca

Hi loverfaces!
Today I have sweet Becca giving us her 5 Do’s and A Don’t! She is such an inspiration to me. She is great at saving money, is hands down one of the sweetest girls ever, reads more than I could ever hope to and is genuinely honest and a good person. Go read her blog. Now!

Hello loves,
I’m Becca and I blog at Oh The Places You’ll Go… I met Neely through blog world but I’m hoping maybe one of these days she’ll grace me with her presence in Tampa for some face time. I’m 26, I graduated from Purdue almost 4 years ago now and quickly moved south to sunny Florida. I wanted to share with you my 5 Do’s and a Don’t of being in your 20s (because blogging is coolest amongst 20-somethings anyway).
DO travel. Travel often. Really, as often as you can afford too. This is the time for adventure. This is the time to see the world, to make an impact, and to send a few postcards home. Live out of a suitcase if you can..be a gypsy.
DO buy a house. One of the single most rewarding adventures I’ve had in my 20s is buying my first home (a townhome a few blocks from the bay). Why waste a fortune on rent? Homes are the new Coach bags. Plus it’ll give you somewhere to house all those pinterest crafts you want to do!
DO watch your priorities! The 20s are crazy. Make sure you keep your priorities straight.
DO build a life you love. Your 20s shape the rest of your life, make sure the choices you make and the people you surround yourself with are shaping a life you can love. I’m in the habit of saying ‘if you don’t wake up at least once a week excited to be you, make some changes’
DO document your life. One of the greatest things about blogs and social networking is documenting your life. This the decade we will talk about forever. Take pictures, write, and share. These are the days of our lives.
DON’T be afraid to start over. Whether it’s facing singleness again to get out of a so-so relationship or starting your career path over at the beginning to do something you love, don’t be afraid of it. This is the time to make mistakes, to start over, to pick ourselves up after a few rough tries. Never settle because you’re afraid of starting fresh.
Wow, this was really fun! Thanks Neely. I kind of feel refreshed from writing these. And to the rest of you – don’t be shy. Find me in blog world or on the twit (@thequeenbc) and lets be friends.
Love,
B

  1. I totally agree with this! I’m now in my 30’s (it comes along very fast) and I am so glad I got to do some travelling in my 20’s. I bought my house when I was 28 so the travelling had to stop to fix up the house, but I’ve had some really fun times. The plus side of getting your house in your 20’s is the money you will save from renting can be used for travelling again when the house is more affordable!! One thing I would add (and this will sound very boring but it’s important) is to make sure you start your pension asap. Cos again that leads to more travelling when you retire 🙂

I love the DO TRAVEL and DO DOCUMENT YOUR LIFE!

I wish I could say DO BUY A HOUSE but in NY, houses are 400K with $10,000/yr taxes for a small 3 bedroom, 2 bath. So I don’t think that is doable! HAHA

  11. Totally agree with all of your “Do’s” My H and I are big into traveling and it amazes me how many people aren’t taking the opportunity to see the world especially while they’re young and don’t have kids yet. I have several friends who don’t even have passports! The world is a beautiful place and wants to be seen!

We just bought our house, and it was/is a huge expense but it’s so worth it and so nice to know we’re not throwing money down the drain to rent every month anymore. Yay!

  12. Hopefully all of these things apply for the 30s, too, haha. I had a very adventurous 20s, including travel and moving across country and all kinds of things, but I don’t intend for that to stop in my 30s!
