I love planning girlfriend trips. I just booked one in Smoky Mountains today. Miami…fun times. I have been there lots. It is only a 3 hour drive. Prepare yourself for overpriced pretentiousness and annoying, head pounding club/house music. You pay a 20% tip on everything…everything. And the service is horrible. It is all about who you know , what you look like and how much money you have. But if you can ignore all that you will have a great time. I am going to be totally annoying right now and tell you about my favorite places there.
The Fountainebleau is awesome. It is a little bit of a drive from the main drag in Miami. But it is a huge, beautiful hotel. They have an enormous Vegas style pool. They also have lots of clubs and restaurants so it would be easy to stay there an never leave. I have actually never stayed there. But I have eaten and partied there.
Hilton Bentley is where we stay. Funny story…the first time we stayed there the top 2 floors were blocked off and there was security and cameramen everywhere. Several weeks later we found out they were filming the first season of Kourtney and Khloe take Miami while we were there. It is a very nice hotel with a great beach and awesome location. But the service sucks. We put our own beer in the fridge in our room. The maid took it and then charged us for it. We also got charged for drinks we never ordered at the bar. But that is the kind of service you get everywhere in Miami. Just expect it.
Next door is Nikki Beach. Most people like it at night. I say go for happy hour. They have the best mango mojitos and a fabulous raw bar. You can walk right up in your bathing suit. If you do go at night pay close attention to what is going on inside the lit up teepees. You will be shocked at what people do in those things.
Across the street is Prime 112. Go eat there. It is where the celebrities dine. It is a delicious steak house. It is super pricey. Then menu us a la carte. So if you share it is not that bad price wise. They have the best bacon ever. Order the cobb salad just for the bacon. It is big enough for 4 people. The food there is so good and worth every penny.
Down the street a bit is Davito’s. Yes, Danny Davito owns it. Go for lunch. It is dead but the service is great. They have an awesome little shaded patio you can sit on. It is a fabulously decorated little place so be sure to go inside just to see it. They are playing Sinatra and old black and white movies during the day and the atmosphere is just awesome. They have a ricotta stuffed meatball that is to die for. Do not go here at night. It turns into a totally different place.
If you want traditional South Florida club fun go to Mango’s. You can’t miss this place. It is on the main drag…Collin’s, I think. It is a cheesy club with different music in different rooms. But in the main bar they have a salsa band and these dancers (men and women) that dance on the stage. They put on quite a show. It is so much more fun than the wait in line for an hour an pay $100 to get in clubs.
The Clevelander is another awesome hotel. It is in the heart of everything. They have an outside pool bar that is always hoppin’ at night. They also have a roof top that overlooks the pool and you can only get up there if you stay there. The rooms are tiny South Beach style rooms and everything is white. You can barely fit your suitcase in there. But who hangs out in their room in Miami. I was actually impressed with the service there. And that is saying a lot for Miami.
And now I have written you a book on Miami. Sorry about that. It is just a place I know well. And hey…it’s okay to write a book as a blog comment.
