So I made my company an LLC in December.
Since then working from home freelance writing, blogging, having my Social Media business, doing blog/social Media consulting etc has taught me some things about working from home you may not know.
When you work from home…
1. You have the best boss ever…true story. I think I think Im a great boss.
2. You can show up to work as early or as late as you want. I would stay my day starts range from 7 AM-9 AM depending.
3. You drink more coffee. Yeah working so close to the kitchen I make lattes from when I get up til about 1 PM.
4. Yoga pants and PJs are appropriate work attire. Yes there are days I do not get out of my PJs till noonish. Put on workout clothes, work out, and then shower and put PJs back on. Dont you judge me!
5. You are never behind on DVR’d shows. When I worked at an office I never could catch up on my DVR. Now granted having shows on in the background of working doesnt mean I catch everything. Some shows require me to actually watch at night IE Pretty Little Liars. But stuff like Dance Moms, Teen Mom or anything else A finds revolting I try to watch during the day and by watch I mean listen to in the background.
6. You have no excuse to not do laundry: Yes A gets to come home to laundry done, folded and put away because seriously I have no excuse to not do it.
7. You spend less money: I dont really go out for lunch unless meeting a friend once a week MAYBE so I usually make lunch at home. This results in very little money spent on eating out. When I had an office job I went out for lunch daily.
8. You have no excuse to not workout: Apt Gym…nuff said.
9. People think you dont work: When you say you work from home most people say “oh so you dont work.” NO! I work a lot….usually somewhere around 70 hours a week plus. The thing about owning your own business and working from home is while I have tons of flexibility I work weekends, vacations, holidays etc. Social Media doesn’t sleep or take weekends.
What is something people dont know about your job?

In my last job I worked part time from home and part of the time in the office. I was so much more productive from home. In the office people came in to chit chat and it was a real time waster. Plus a group of us always went to lunch together which was another hour out of the day. At home I didn’t have those distractions and could focus on knocking things off the to do list.
Plus I was so grateful they let me work from home I wanted to make sure that the arrangement worked for everyone and i worked doubly hard from home.
Being your own boss is so awesome but I’m sure there are added pressures that you deal with.
Sounds like you have your dream job!
Love this post! I am making the switch to 100% self employment in January 🙂
I’d love to work in my PJs!! And I’m very thankful that I can put on netflix and have it in the background all day in my office. I wouldn’t know how to work any other way now! 🙂
I just started working from home a couple months ago, I LOVE working in my PJ’s all day. It makes picking out clothes for work so simple!
I work as a designer for a fashion house. It’s def not all as glamorous as people would imagine but I love how fast paced it is!
I technically work from home selling Scentsy 🙂
It has a LOT of pros but I think I would go stir crazy.. I’ve been madly searching for a job since April and I’m going crazy. Blogging, reading Blogs, reading books, pool time– I do have a part time job but it isn’t enough. I will probably eat these words but I crave people. My fiance isn’t enough lol!!
I get WAY more done working from home!
I am a retail manager, I recently had a customer tell me that she has a “real job” she doesn’t just work at the mall. She was so kind… Really…. I actually kind of hate her a little.
i hate wearing pants at my house, too! UNECESSARY!
Love it! I wish working from home would be possible, but no time soon!
Ever since I started blogging at the beginning of this year, I’ve discovered that my dream future would involve working from home where I can do everything you said above and more. I hope that one day, this dream will become a reality. May I ask, how did you get started with your business and working from home? I’d love some advice!
