The first year and half or maybe even two years I blogged I didn’t call myself a blogger. It was a hobby. It was a thing I did in my free time. Sure I posted daily and was active on Social Media but it was a hobby.
The moment I hit 1000 readers I proudly proclaimed on my Facebook page that I had a blog. It wasn’t that my family didn’t know or my friends didn’t know because they all knew. It was that I didn’t cal myself a blogger.
Now when someone asks me what do you do my initial response is “blogger.” Followed my “I also run my own Social Media Company” and then “I am a writer.”
First and Foremost I am a blogger. This is my space. I have worked tremendously hard to get where I am in this space. I have had nothing handed to me on a silver platter. I work. Every single day. To be better. I work to write better, to be more present on Social Media, to be more aware of my actions etc.
To be a great blogger there is no one way to do it, no rhyme or reason etc. I don’t ever for a second think I am a great blogger. I just wake up everyday and do my very best to feel proud to call myself a blogger.
Taking yourself seriously is all about being proud of what you do and where you are going and vise versa. Being proud of what you do and where you are going is taking yourself seriously.
One of my favorite days as a writer as well was this day….
Front page of the Sunday Edition of the Arts and Life section of the Dallas Morning News. The day that happened I started to take myself seriously as a writer.
Just like when I got my first Social Media client I knew…yes this is what I am meant to do.
At the end of the day I am a blogger. I am the other things as well and I love all 3 so very much. I am lucky to wake up every day and have 3 things to do that I love. That I hope I am good at everyday and that I hope I bring my best to.
Taking myself seriously, taking my work seriously. I have to do it. I love doing it.
Make sure you are taking yourself seriously. Its so hard in this space to get caught up in just being another number.
Taking oneself seriously is serious business and can only help to allow growth. Well said.
