So our DJ is amazing. Yes we chose a DJ…I know its not for everyone but I like to hear the original version of songs. So there ya go.
We have met with him twice because he works with us monthly leading up to the wedding. He is AMAZING!!!!! I seriously cant speak enough of him so if you are in Dallas and looking for an amazing DJ go to Jaime Chavez and trust me he is worth it!
What I love about him is that he is letting me hand pick each song. I mean we aren’t actually hand picking EVERY song but we gave him all of our must plays and he is so wonderful to play them at the parts of the night where we will be sure to be on the dance floor. This is where my OCD comes into play. It’s not that I want to control every single aspect its more that I want to hear certain songs, dance to them with my family and friends and REALLY enjoy the night. I’ve been to weddings where great songs were played during dinner where people were not dancing and to me that just isn’t fun. He calls himself the human Pandora which I love. From the songs we give him he knows exactly what other songs to play. He also asked for the songs we absolutely hated and did not want to hear under any circumstance. Cue me screaming out PLEASE DO NOT PLAY JOURNEY!
I just wanted to take this time and talk about what an amazing time we have been having not only planning our wedding but working with our DJ and planning the music for our wedding so that everyone leaves the night and thinks about how much fun they had!
What’s on my must list? Africa by TOTO, Motown Philly, Flo Rida, The Cure, Beastie Boys and so much more! Stay Tuned….
What are your must play songs?

I thought it was fitting to read your blog while sipping my second latte ever. We’re using a dj also! Where I’m from it’s actually more common than using a band… Yours sounds great! The dj we wanted was already booked (a year and a half out – crazy???) so we took our wedding planners advice on the next best. I think we’ll be ok.
Ours played a lot of breakup songs, which was super awkward. Definitely have a “do not play!!!!” list!
I totally approve of all those song choices. How fun!!! It’s going to be quite the party! 🙂
Our DJ is letting us do the same thing. He has a database that we can add any song that we want played and songs we don’t want played. I love that idea. It makes it easier for him as well. When is your wedding? I didn’t realize you were engaged! Congrats!! Welcome to Wedding Wednesday.
Thanks for linking up!
100 times yes to Motown Philly! I almost always prefer DJ’s at weddings over live bands. There’s more variety and a little bit of something for everyone. It’s so great to find and awesome DJ!
Our DJ was awesome like that too because I knew Keith’s best man would try to request all these songs that I didn’t want played and so I was able to put restrictions on a lot of stuff. It also helped that our DJ looked like John Mayer 😉
We used a DJ too! While ours was LATE (cue panic attack), he was really good. I look back at our pictures and our friends had waaayyy too much fun haha.
Thumbs up for you. I also decided on a DJ for my wedding, 9 years ago…myself 🙂 Yap, I was the bride and the DJ and I rocked, literally 🙂
#SITSBlogging
I would probably put a lot of 80s & 90s music in there, but not too much because my husband wouldn’t like that! LOL That’s my favorite music though – I hope you’re wedding is fun and awesome & that you’re able to relax!
I promise you that Africa will make people go CRAZY!
Getting to pick all the songs is a big deal!
This is completely random, but the picture of the ring looks just like my engagement ring!
Anyways, our DJ for our wedding was awesome, mostly because it’s my husband’s best friend and knew exactly what to play for us. We’re rockers at heart so he played Shinedown, Heart and just a bunch of stuff. Our song though is A Thousand Years by Christina Perri
Yay DJ! So fun!
We need to start compiling our list, but we definitely have a long list of DO NOT PLAYs! Oh and I feel you about the OCD thing. I feel the same!
