Happy Friday friends!
I hope you are all having a nice week and hopefully will have a nice weekend!
Today I am in Austin with the bestie and I will be back in Dallas this evening.
We had a fun slumber party in our hotel last night and watched movies, chatted and probably had too many adult beverages.
Today we are grabbing coffee, walking Town Lake(mah fav) and then Im taking her to a new to me place called Embellished nail salon for pedicures. I found this place on yelp and they have candy bowls all over the salon, flat screens playing chick flicks and wine and mimosas!
After that I think a little lunch and shopping is in order before I trek back to Dallas!
Anywho….
Today Im gonna talk working out 🙂
I am one of those crazy people who enjoys to work out. I love the feeling I get after a great run, tough pure barre or body pump class or 1200 meter swim.
Nothing beats the high you get from working out…NOTHING!
With summer fast approaching in a few days or if you are like me and live in a place where its already 100 degrees you have probably been stepping up your workouts like I have.
Even in the winter I work out 5-6 days a week but in the summer I tend to do 6-7. Usually that 7th day is something low key like a fast paced walk or less vigorous swim.
This is what a normal week for me looks like now, I also am doing the June Fab abs workout 6 days a week but that only takes 5-10 minutes.
Sunday: 1250 meter swim(fast vigorous pace)
Monday: Pure Barre
Tuesday: Body Pump and 30 minutes of elliptical
Weds: Pure Barre and 2 mile run
Thurs: 1250-1400 m swim(fast vigorous pace)
Friday: Pure Barre
Saturday: Pure Barre, 2 mile run
You are probably wondering where that rest day is…its there. Without fail one of these does not happen because of an event at night, or errands that need to get done, or me being tired. I have my schedule set to 7 days so if I take a rest day I am still getting the amount of cardio and strength I need. I never use a swim day as a rest day though. I ALWAYS have 2 swim days.
I get a lot of questions about what I eat and what helps me lose weight. I am here to tell you that what works for me will probably not work for everyone. I am no expert I just know what my body responds to. The main thing is portion control. I try to not deprive myself of anything. But I also try to go for the healthy option. For instance I wont eat a pizza hut pizza when I get a pizza from whole foods made of natural REAL ingredients. I won’t eat a burger from wendy’s when I can make one at home from non processed meats and cheeses. I also use My Fitness Pal to track what I am eating and to compare days.
When we go out to a restaurant I look at the menu ahead of time, this way if we are going somewhere where I may have a large dinner, I will eat a smaller lunch that day. I also don’t like to be surprised and feel like I cant eat anything.
I also get emails and questions about my favorite healthy snacks!
This is easy for me 🙂
1. Chobani champions Greek yogurt in very berry
2. Kashi Go Lean crunch by itself
3. Frozen Grapes or Strawberries
4. string cheese
5. Kashi crackers with hummus
6. Foods should taste good chips with black bean hummus
7. Blue Bell all natural fruit bars in Strawberry
8. Annies bunny grahams and bunny pretzels
Do I eat bad stuff? Yes. Not often but yes. We were at a concert a few weeks ago and I wanted Nachos so I had about 6 chips will queso…very processed and my tummy did not like it one bit!
If I can give anyone any advice on losing weight or eating healthier or exercising its that you have to find what works for you!
I don’t have much of a sweet tooth but I love carbs and salty foods, so thats where I have to watch myself. I don’t hate working out so I don’t have to bribe myself to go to the gym its something I just do.
Let me know if you have any questions 🙂
What’s your favorite healthy snack?
Don’t forget to link up with Ashley and I Sunday for week 2 of the Sunday Social!

Hi Neely,
You are such an inspiration, and I love your blog!
I have trouble fitting working out with teaching and traveling, (I live 45 minutes away from my school), do you have any advice for organizing/inspiring yourself for early morning workouts? Also, do you have any easy to prepare, quick to eat, healthy lunch ideas? (at my school I only get 15 minutes for lunch because of playground duty!)
These are some great tips! I admire your work-out schedule! I’ve been fighting to get mine in there, last week I did three days, this week I’m really hoping for four but it may only be three.
I love having fruit for snacks, I also bring some pretzels and a wedge of the light laughing cow cheese to work for a snack each day. There are a lot of healthy options out there!
I find that after a while you kind of change your tastes. The healthier I eat for longer, the more I crave healthy over junky. Not to say I don’t have my vices like everyone else. ha ha…
And I love Chobani!
I love to work out too 🙂 It makes me feel SO good! I wasn’t allowed to workout all week which was a total bummer. I feel like a lazy bum. Sunday morning I’ve got a solid run planned!!!
Holy moly, I want to go to a nail salon like that!!! We have nothing like that around here, but it sounds freaking divine!
I need you to live with me and do this with me, mmkay? And while I’m requesting things, I need to not have a sweet tooth. And I also need my baby to take a bottle so I can go work out. That is all. 😉
I love Austin!
I’ve only been there once but I had so much fun. Wish I knew of that nail salon- sounds like heaven!
The hubs and I were actually thinking about moving to Texas… it’s a lot more affordable than Hawaii. The only thing is that all our family is here. It’s a big deal for us to have our son grown up with our extended family.
Once in awhile I still think about it- I’m holding on to a little smidgent of hope but I don’t think the husband will budge.
hmmm what’s my healthy snack…no idea…whatever i’m craving at the time…
yesterday it was cucumbers
day before red bell peppers
today? crystal light frozen to slushie form haha
i wish i liked working out! i always want to wear cute workout clothes! the only thing ill do is pilates! or any type of dance! its so great all the motivation you have! and you only ate 6 chips?!?! thats willpower!!! have a great weekend lover, see you sunday for the social!!!
xoxo
Seriously, you blow me away with all your working out and eating right habits. I need your motivation.
Where do you swim Neely?!
You should swim with me at smu outdoor pool 🙂
Some great advice. I really think the best way for lasting success is not to deprive yourself and do anything too drastic that’s impossible to sustain long term. That said, I exercise but I can’t say I love it, unfortunately. I do feel accomplished after, though!
I’ve desperately got to get back in my groove. I thought it would be easier during summer bReak, but I guess the routine that I was in with going right after school worked for me. Thanks for the tips!
