How To Avoid Skin Struggles

Skin struggles, we all have them right? It’s one of those things you assumed just only happened to you as a teenager and you wouldn’t have to deal with as an adult. As a teenager I really didn’t have much trouble with my skin. In fact, up until I was about 25 I thought I had completely avoided “bad skin.” I feel like the years I spent taking the worst care of my skin were the easier. As an adult I have found the things I need to do, the extra steps I have to take to keep my skin looking its best.

How To Avoid Skin Struggles

Stay Out Of The Sun: First and foremost stay out of the sun! Nothing can hurt your skin more than sun damage, or even worse, melanoma which I know way too many people who have had to deal with this. I am one of those people who is just pale. So the idea of laying in the sun, or putting on oil, or going to a tanning bed just doesn’t appeal to me. I know it’s important for some to be super tan, but remember there are other things you can do that don’t require sun!

Masks:  I have tried A LOT of masks and recently I have been using Purity Made Simple Pore Extractor to help those pesky pores! It detoxifies your skin and purifies your pores, and I notice and immediate difference when I use it. It’s a 3-in-1 formula so a mask, cleanser, and exfoliator in one. It’s really creamy and spreads very easily. You don’t need a ton! It reminded me a lot of getting a facial-results wise. QVS actually offers the largest assortment of Philosophy products! Keep an eye out for more Philosophy products on QVC in the coming months!! I have seen such a change in my pores in the last month since I started using this.

Sleep: We all know that lack of sleep is basically the worst. It hurts your focus, concentration, overall health, and of course your skin. I, like most people, strive for 8 hours of sleep a night. Granted with a new baby coming in the next couple of weeks I’m sure that will take a back seat for a while. However, you should all be trying to get as much sleep as possible to avoid skin struggles.

Water: Something we can ALL do is drink more water. I am usually good about it but I do notice that when my skin gets super dry I think back and realize I haven’t had quite as much water in the days leading up to it. I have talked about the importance of drinking water in about 20 blog posts in the past and my biggest tip is always to keep water with you 24/7. A really easy way to avoid skin struggles is constant water consumption.

What do you do to avoid skin struggles?

  1. I try to avoid the sun as much as possible too! It helps that I’m a major city girl and that I tan so easily (and hate it). Great tips!

  3. For me, I usually cleanse my face every time I get home & rinse with water perfectly. I also use masks when my face breakout. That’s all I think. And and and, not to forget, I totally care about what i eat. Loaded oily food is a turn off to me. Eat more veggies!

  4. I haven’t done a facial mask in a long time. I used to get the biggest kick out of peeling some off as a teen.

I need to do more masks! One thing I recently came across that I love is Tea Tree Oil! I thought I would grow out of acne when I was in my 20s but of course I didn’t, but Tea Tree Oil has really helped during flare ups!

  10. I might have to try that mask! I wash my face twice daily; try to wash my face ASAP after a workout; sometimes use toner although I’m not sure what it does, my friend just told me to use it.

  12. I feel like I spent all of my 20s not taking care of it because I didn’t need to. Now that I’m in my 30s, I notice that I get blemishes if I don’t eat right. Or my skin has become a lot more dry (probably due to where we are living now!). I definitely took it for granted. Some thing that’s been working for me is putting Frankincense and Lemon essential oils on my face. It’s definitely lightened it up and taken care of the dry skin!

I am quite lucky, because my skin is clear almost all the time. When I’m facing stressful periods of time, my skin tells me by letting some blemish come up. That’s how I know I should take it easier.

  20. My skin has been absolutely miserable since becoming pregnant. It’s so horrible. I’m now constantly on the lookout for new tips and products to try to tame it a bit. Plus my skin is soooo sensitive too which makes it so much harder to even try new products. Currently Bare Minerals is my go-to!

  24. My skin gets dry in extreme weather conditions. I always use moisturizers and am open to try out new ones. I would like to try that product line. I’ve been looking around for a good facial mask and I think the search has ended today. 🙂 Thanks for the review!

Great tips! I definitely agree with the first one especially! So many girls I went to school with baked in a tanning bed and now they look at least 10 years older than their actual age. It’s just not worth it in the end.

  31. For me it was finding a GOOD dermatologist – I had gone to them since high school and felt like they kind of threw products in my face, but the one I have now in NYC really pays attention to my skin, the issues I have and what I want to fix. I’m on a great routine and my skin is the clearest it’s been in years!

Looks like a great product. I’ve had issues with my skin since I was 12 … ended up doing three rounds of Accutane and still had issues as an adult until about 8 months ago. What did I do differently? I stopped washing my face, moisturizing my face … just rinse it with water in the shower and that’s it. My skin has been amazing. I’m not sure why it worked, but I’m not changing it!
