Confessions and Facing the Music

Some confessions:
1. I am not naturally thin
2. I will never be naturally thin
3. Staying thin, in a clothing size I am ok with and at a weight I am comfortable with has been a challenge for me since I was 13.
4. I love to workout and I love healthy food
5. I love carbs and cookies(yes I know they are a carb too)
6. I am a slacker as of December 9th
During student teaching last semester I was awesome. I worked 9 hours a day, did pure barre every night Mon-Sat and ate amazing. I actually lost 5 lbs during student teaching.
But when student teaching ended in December….I just plain started sucking:
-We went to Fredericksberg where I ate and drank like calories didn’t exist
-Christmas, New Years and time off of work meant eating eating eating and less exercising
-Started working and really lacking with the exercise and the eating well
-Discovered Torchys Tacos
-Got sick of Snappy Salads
-Discovered Whole Foods oatmeal cookies which are not REMOTELY healthy
-Went to Blissdom and ate like crap
-Let C take me on eleventy billion dates where we ate like c rap
What happened with all of this?
I gained 8 lbs
Yes I realize 8 lbs in the grand scheme of things is NOT a big deal but to a girl who was classified at age 15 with having Body Dysmoprhic Disorder this is a big deal.
I am not anorexic let me just say that right now. But when my weight tips a certain way I really get upset.
This time after being upset for 2 weeks and continuing to do the things that got me in this situation yesterday I said
“WHAT THE EFF? YOU’RE BETTER THAN THIS!”
Chad and I signed up for a 10K. Chad is not a runner and I have no consistently run in over 6 months so we are starting from day 1 of training and both downloaded the couch to 10K app 🙂
Note: Don’t ever stop running because retraining sucks.
I am carrying the camel-back with me all day so I am constantly drinking water
Note: The only other thing I drink is coffee
I went to Whole Foods and stocked up on my favs and some new things I am trying like black bean dip to have with blue corn chips instead of chips and queso, pistachios, turkey breast, more Greek yogurt, lots of yummy fruits and veggies, chia bread, kashi crackers, and sorbet for when my sweet tooth is in full force.
I am splitting my exercise between 3 times a week of couch to 10K and 3 times a week of Pure Barre
I am also taking walks when I get bored and think I want to eat or watch more TV. I like turning on pandora and walking when the weather is nice and thankfully in TX we have had a TON of nice weather!
I still make a green monster smoothie every single day! (Spinach, Banana, Strawberries, Greek Yogurt, Truvia and ice)
I did not write this post to say “Oh Whoa is me I have gained 8 lbs” #firstworldproblems
I wrote this to make myself accountable. To remind myself what I said I would do and what I WILL do.
Will I still eat Torchys? Yes but only as a treat once a month or once every 2 months
Will I still have cookies every now and then? Duh
Will I try to make healthy choices 100% of the time? Of course but honestly I would say I probably will 90% of the time.
Back in May of 2010 I completely changed the way I ate and worked out and I lost 20 lbs in 4 months. So 8 lbs? I got this 🙂
I GOT THIS!

  4. I put myself on a “sorta” Weight Watchers diet after Christmas to get rid of the same damn 8 lbs. So far I’m down 7 just by working out regularly and making smarter choices… still have some queso on the weekends, but cut back drastically on the LIQUID calories and really don’t feel deprived. Good luck, you can do it!

  19. Good for you! I’m with you on not being naturally thin and having to work a lot harder than some other people to be happy with my size. You can totally do this! 🙂 Get it girl!

I love the idea of carrying a camel back with you all day. I never thought of that! Water is one of the hardest parts about eating healthy for me.

You go, girl! I agree about the stopping running thing. Once I stop, it’s as if I never started running in the first place. Ugh. Impressed with your reclaimed motivation! I understand totally. I feel like since I hit 29 years old, I’ve noticed it takes me longer to get in shape or lose a pound or two. That sounds silly, but seriously. I noticed a big difference in my metabolism. I mean.. I’ve been kicking my @ss lately at the gym and crossfit and have noticed a difference, but not a MASSIVE difference. If I’d been doing this same activity a 26 years old, I would have noticed a MASSIVE difference right away. Blerg.

I’m with you on this! I let myself use pregnancy as an excuse to eat too much and now have a LOT to lose. I’ve been using the myfitnesspal app on my phone to track my calories. It helps hold me accountable.

Good for you for realizing you have to make changes and get yourself back on track. When I gain weight (which happens a lot) I tend to completely lose it and just drown my sorrows in vodka and junk food. Not helpful.

  33. Wow thats amazing! I’ve recently written a similar post (although I have put on a LOT more weight!!) and I’m now trying to do something about it. It’s not easy, but I like the fact that my body is aching – it means I’m achieving something! Although I don’t think I could do 10k like you! Well done 🙂

You got this, girl! I know you love being healthy and fitness so this will come naturally to you. I can relate to you a bit because I have always been pretty thin (but with a big ol booty). Always a size 4. When I gained 48 pounds with Kennedy I felt like a completely different person and when the weight wasn’t coming off as fast as everyone said it would, I will admit I freaked out. I’ve still got about 15 pounds to go at around 3 months postpartum and it feels like it’s taking forever when in the grand scheme of things, it’s really not. Those 8 pounds will fly off! Keep up the great work!!
