A Change of Plans and a Leap of Faith

Note: This accidentally posted Friday night when I meant to schedule it. I had an eye infection and one eye was shut so stuff happens.

So Wednesday I am supposed to start my teaching job…

That’s not happening.
Why?

I got offered a DREAM JOB working in social media. I start TODAY 🙂

My job title is Social Media Manager or as I like to call it: Twitter Bad ass
You may be thinking…”Who turns down a job they went to grad school for and got buried in student loan debt to achieve?”
I am a big believer in loving what you do. I know too many people who wake up int he morning and dread going to work. My parents both have amazing jobs. My mom owns her own business and my dad has worked for Toyota for over 20 years. They both love their jobs and love work. It’s not that I wouldn’t love teaching but getting paid to do something I wake up everyday and do anyways? Getting paid to write blog posts, create pins on pinterest, tweet for companies and brands…how could I possibly turn that down.
I couldn’t and I didn’t.
Ever since I started my blog I knew this is what I wanted to do. I knew that it was my passion and something I could do professionally. Now I can. The work environment is amazing, with fun quirky creative people and a flexible schedule.
I will be able to run out mid day and grab a coffee if I need to, check my email and wear jeans to work. Can’t say that about a lot of jobs.
I am thrilled beyond belief and feel so lucky!
I can’t wait to start this new chapter of my life.

Side note: A week ago Kristin from Little Laws Prints sent out a print jpg to anyone who wanted it. It said “Let what you love, be what you do” I put it as the background on my cell phone. Who knew a week later it would be true.

Thank you in advance for being supportive 🙂

Congratulations, Neely! I couldn’t be happier for you! You are absolutely right, we have to love what we do or it will just drive us crazy! I don’t love my job, but I decided to go back to school to change that. And I’m doing it. And I love. I’m glad that you’re taking this leap of faith, but I know you’re going to rock the pants off this job! You deserve, you little social media queen, you! xoxo

Congratulations! That does sound like a dream job. 🙂 I know what you mean about needing to love what you do…it’s why I quit my teaching job and went back to school for speech pathology, and I’m so glad I am going to spend my life doing something that I love and feel passionate about! It’s worth the sacrifice. This is totally your niche, and I’m sure you will be amazing at it! Can’t wait to hear more!

  33. That’s really cool 🙂 Congrats on your new position! I don’t think you should think twice about your career if your heart speaks to you. Opportunities come often but seldom are they grabbed — you did that so be proud and go for it! I hope I’m as fortunate in my future to find what I love at my doorstep 🙂

  37. Congrats!!! I totally agree about doing what you love to do. I have a master’s degree in Counseling and even interviewed for a therapist position, just because it was posted online for a job opening. Before interviewing, I actually didn’t know what the interview was for, and that’s when it turned out to be that position. Even throughout school, I never saw myself as a counselor or doing the mental health field. I worked in the field in one aspect, and was miserable. So, recently, I accepted a position as a Sales Consultant at a car dealer, and I am loving it so far!!! I am so sure people will question me and ask why and judge, but I want to love going to work. I don’t want to dread it, you know?
