A Weekend Away

Andrew and I have been married nearly 9 months. Can we just stop for a second – how has it already been 9 months!? Anyways I knew I wanted to have a weekend away this summer, but we didn’t want to go far. So to Austin we went 2 weekends ago! I can’t tell you how needed this little break was. We have both had a ton of work lately and with our move, getting settled into the house, etc. a weekend away couldn’t have come at a better time.

Friday morning we woke up very early (thanks internal alarm clock). We showered, finished packing, grabbed a Starbucks and hit the road!

We arrived in Austin before noon and pulled up to such a beautiful hotel. I can’t say enough about how gorgeous the Four Seasons is. From the moment we pulled up I was impressed with how nice, helpful and accommodating the staff was. Every time we were waiting for our car or coming in they offered us cold bottled water, which is about the best thing you can give me in Texas heat.

After a quick lunch at Annie’s we headed to the pool for a little R&R. I have been to many a hotel pool but this was one of my favorites. Every hour we were offered smoothies, a cold towel or something equally fabulous. We had a few drinks and snacks by the pool while we got some sun and cooled off in the water. The staff by the pool was so nice and helpful and anytime I wanted something, before I could even look around they were there willing to help!

That night we headed to Hula Hut for dinner, which is one of my all-time favorite places. Andrew had never been but knowing his love for all things Hawaii and being on the water I knew it was the perfect place to take him. The food was fabulous, and the weather wasn’t too hot so we could even eat outside.

After dinner we came back to the hotel, put on pjs and watched for the Congress Avenue Bridge bats. Every night around dusk tons of bats fly out from the South Congress bridge. People stand on the bridge to get a good view, but we had an amazing view from our fabulous hotel room. Then we ordered cookies, which are a favorite of mine, from the Four Seasons. If you ever go make sure to get some chocolate chip cookies and milk! I then had one of my best nights sleep in a while. Talk about a perfect combo of comfy bed and black out curtains. We also ordered memory foam pillows and hot tea, which you can request before bed. If that doesn’t make you sleep, well, I am not sure what will.

Saturday was equally great. We started our day off with a walk around Lady Bird Lake and a stop at Starbucks. Then we went to brunch at Magnolia Café, which was delicious. We then spent another afternoon by the pool after a little shopping at The Domain. I picked up some shorts and a coffee mug at a cute boutique, and a pair of pants at Lululemon.

After another afternoon by the pool and a nap, we went to the spa. OH MY GOODNESS! I can’t say enough about the spa and the delicious raspberry and pineapple infused water they have there. We both got massages as a treat from the Four Seasons and it was Andrew’s first massage EVER. He loved it and I loved mine. It was so relaxing and such a treat. The girl I had was so nice and when I told her I work out a lot and my legs have been very sore, she paid special attention to them. It was so great to have someone who listened and made sure it was a glorious massage.

That night we had dinner at the Hotel’s delicious restaurant, TRIO. TRIO had the most amazing appetizer of seafood, which included ceviche, oysters, and shrimp. We devoured it fast! They also serve popovers while you are waiting and the butter was mouthwatering. We had a delicious bottle of wine as well. For our main courses, I had a filet and mac and cheese and Andrew had fish and mushrooms. We completely cleaned our plates and could not have asked for a more perfect meal. We sat near the window and had a great time people watching and looking over the lake. It was a beautiful setting for a romantic dinner.

We wanted to enjoy our dessert of s’mores in comfy clothes so we changed and headed outside. While we let our food digest we lounged on a hammock near the lake, which was PERFECT! So nice to lay with my husband on a hammock and relax. Then we had a blast with the s’mores kits the hotel has that guests can enjoy. They have fire pits and individual s’mores kits so you can make a few or as many as you want. I had 3 haha!

We were exhausted after that and headed to sleep. We left the next morning to grab brunch at South Congress Cafe before driving back to Dallas. I was so sad to go because Andrew and I had the perfect weekend away. It was a blast and I am so thankful for this opportunity! We felt beyond relaxed and spoiled and it made having to get up that Monday a little easier after such a wonderful weekend.

Thank you Four Seasons Austin for the wonderful hotel stay, dinner and massages we absolutely loved them!

Time passes so quickly when you’re having fun. I blinked and then my husband and I had been married for more than a year. How does that happen?

Glad you had a great stay. All of that food looks amazing.
