Christmas Wreath DIY with Main Street Chic

I am kicking off the week of Christmas with a fabulous guest post DIY

Today I have hands down the cutest girl ever guest posting. I found her blog through a girl I went to high school with and she does the most amazing DIY projects. She also has a ton of cute decor tips, fashion pieces and just pretty girlie fun things on her blog. You need to definitely check out Emily @ Main Street Chic.

Hi everyone! I am SUPER excited to be a guest here at A Complete Waste of Makeup and thanks so much to Neely for having me 🙂
I found this Christmas-y wreath on Pinterest, where all great DIY ideas live! I absolutely love the look of this wreath, it definitely reads ‘holiday’ but it’s also kind of contemporary/mod. A perfect match 🙂

The initial post can be found here (http://www.allthingsthrifty.com/2010/01/tutorial-lima-bean-wreath.html). While it’s a great tutorial, I did figure out a few things that will make the project easier that I will share with ya’ll here. So without further ado- the mod Christmas wreath!

You will need
-Lima beans. I bought 2 bags but only used 1
-A Styrofoam wreath that can be found at pretty much any craft store
-Hot glue gun and glue sticks
-(not pictured) spray paint in the color of your choice. I had some white lying around that I used. I think it would look super cool in navy as well.
I am kind of a trial by error gal. So when the tutorial I was following said to glue the lima beans in a line… I thought “I think I want mine to look a little bit more hap-hazard.” So I just started gluing the beans down randomly, just trying to find how they fit together best.

Not going to lie… this step takes a long time…. It’s probably best that you watch Home Alone while gluing. That’s what I did anyway.

As I neared the end of the bean-gluing step, I realized I had TONS of glue stringys from the hot glue gun.

You all will benefit from knowing what I learned the hard way. It is VERY important that you pull off as many of the strings as possible. They become quite visible after you spray paint the wreath.
Here is my wreath, all beans glued and ready to be sprayed. (Yes, I busted out the tartan fabric. Looks lovely and Christmas-y!)

Then, you spray!
Let it dry, add some ribbon, hang it up and you have yourself one fabulous wreath!

I love how it looks hanging in my entryway. And in total, it only cost me about $9. You really can’t beat that.
Merry Christmas everyone and thanks again for having me, Neely!
Thank you Emily for such an inexpensive, fabulous holiday DIY that EVERYONE can do! You are simply amazing!

  1. That’s adorable! I haven’t seen that kind of wreath before. I’m adding it to my pinterest board of must do’s. 🙂

This is such a cute wreath and looks so easy to make, but there is no way I could do it. For some reason I can’t stand the sound of foam! It bothers me to no end! I’m sure I could find somethign else to use instead though!
