While Im Spending the day in Chicago with some of my favorite people on the planet and to fill in for me is the most wonderful Laura. I adore her and our movie dates! She’s one of the most genuine people you’ll ever meet and we are so similar. Im so glad she lives in Dallas 🙂 You should absolutely be following her blog…she’s fantastic!
Hi Y’all! I’m Laura from Boots and Pearls on a Texas Girl. So excited Neely asked me to write a guest post as she is one of my favs (and she knows it!). I recently was in a huge blog/writing funk and couldn’t for the life of me get back in it… so I started a new little project to get me going. I’ve got it in my head that I could totally write a Chick Lit book. I read enough of them to know the deal, and I have a few good reasons. Without further ado:
Why I Think I Should Write a Book
- I live in a big city. All the great chick lit books are set in big cities. Dallas is VERY unrepresented in this area, and I think I can change that.
- My dating life is straight out of a novel. I’ve been cheated on, I’ve been the cheater (not proud of it, but it’s happened), I’ve been in good healthy relationships with no love and tumultuous relationships with a whole lot of passion. I’ve also done the big city/single girl thing, so besides being married, I’ve done it all.
- I use big words. In fact, I can be a bit superfluous.
- I type fast. That’s important right?
- I get in really weird situations on a regular basis. Like the time I went to Ghostbar and next thing I know, Cowboys players are getting me into the VIP section… Paris Hilton ended up on my lap. True Story. Or the time I stayed up until 8 am talking to a guy and watching the sunrise only to find out the next day he has a girlfriend.
- My friends relationships also provide a lot of fodder for me. Not that I would use any one specific situation, but with 2 friends meeting, getting engaged and married with in a year, others that have been dating the same guy for 5, and all my single ladies… I have some good material.
- I had a crap-tacular time in highschool. Those stories always make the heroine more appealing.
- I’m 27. That seems to be right around the age a chick lit girl should be. Old enough to have some life under her, but not too old she’s a cougar.
Things my book will not have include:
- The “mean” pretty girl. Why do the pretty girls always have to be mean and bitchy? I think that’s crap. I’m a pretty girl (or so I’m told) and I’m not mean and bitchy. I’m nice, get along with just about everyone (until they give me a reason not to). Chick lit and chick flicks give pretty girls a bad name.
- The boyfriend leaving the girlfriend for a younger girl. OVER written. Sometimes the girl leaves the boyfriend because she’s in a passionless pit of a relationship and can’t stand to be around him all the time. Yeah… that happens too!
- A make over. I know I just gave myself a mini one (hair, make up, clothes) but there is no reason that need to be promoted.
- People quitting their jobs. Maybe a girl can already be fulfilled in her current job and doesn’t need a change right?!
Things my book will include:
- Kissing in the rain. It’s my favorite.
- Fights! Where things get thrown! And broken!
- Boats.
- Dorky boys. They are my favorites too.
- A vacation where people get drunk.
- Monkeys.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this post! I am hopping on over to Laura’s blog now to start following. I totally think you should write a chick-lit book as well.
I also think pretty girls ALWAYS get a bad rap in them. I don’t get it. How about one where the pretty girl can’t find love? That does happen people! I really love all the things you do not want to put in it and that you do!
HAHA!! Love this! I would definitely read her book if she wrote it! 🙂
