Gunpowder and Lead

So A loves going to the shooting range. I a devout liberal have been raised that guns are bad and only those evil Republicans use them…ok seriously Im kidding please dont take that last line seriously. My dad and boyfriend are Republicans.

OK in all seriousness I fully believe in a right to have guns in your home and your car. Yes I am shocked too.

So this past weekend A took me shooting. I was nervous because I did not know what to expect but I HAD A FREAKING BLAST!

Possibly because the entire time I was singing Miranda Lamberts song in my head, Gunpowder and Lead yes I possibly was. I needed theme music to drown out the gunfire all around me.

The only scary part was shooting the shot gun because the kick back was so bad that I bruised my arm and of course A laughed because he knew it would happen because apparently it happens to everyone the first time. But now I know how to shoot guns and I want to go back. So much fun! Plus bonus I got to do something he loved to do with him and I enjoyed it.

We really did have a really good time and I am so glad I know how to shoot a gun now.

Did you do anything crazy this weekend?

  2. First of all, love the title of this post. And secondly, I love shooting!! I have 3 pistols (one is pink and black!) Shotguns hurt bad! You’ll probably have a bruise on your arm/shoulder. Fun post! Love the pictures.

  3. Sounds like you had a fun time! My husband loves guns and has often asked me to go. I’m chicken and I grew up a Republican. However, you make it sound pretty easy. Maybe I’ll finally get up the nerve and go.

  6. I used to be afraid of guns, but now that I’ve been taught how to use them responsibly I couldn’t imagine not having one in our home.

  8. I was raised around guns and taught to handle and use them properly from the time I was little. I do not have one in the house because we have a son who is bipolar and I would never forgive myself if he went into a cycle and used it to hurt himself or someone else. Maybe one day I will invest in one for the house because we do live in the country and it is good protection. I mean if you get past my pitbull and wolf hybrid dog..

  9. YOU GO GIRL! I grew up shooting and hunting with my dad, mostly bird hunting and skeet (clay pigeon)targets. About 10 years ago, Dad began transitioning from shotguns to high-powered target rifles. On his property in western Kentucky, he has built his own range out to 600 yards, as well as a temporary range out to one mile when the crops have been harvested in the fields. It’s a blast to shoot the rifles that he has built and customized for long-range target shooting. I know you’ve seen my profile picture on Facebook — that’s me shooting the .338 Lapua, the same gun that currently holds the world record for the longest confirmed kill in combat. In 2009, a British sniper in Afghanistan killed TWO Taliban machine gunners at a range of 2,707 yards … that’s over a mile and a half!!! Even though I am unable to shoot right now (due to the pregnancy), I still enjoy it, miss it, and look forward to returning to the range as soon as possible. Husband introduced me to hand guns (pistols) three years ago and now we shoot both pistols and rifles. Just like you and A, it’s something we both enjoy and can do together. Besides, the competition is stiff at our house, we shoot for bragging rights!!!!!!!

p.s. We need a blogger get-together at the gun range … with Miranda Lambert singing “Gunpowder and Lead” in the background of course!!!!!!

  15. My boyfriend and I are getting each other CHL classes for christmas. 🙂 It’s probably a little weird but I’m excited! The only shot gun I’ve ever shot left a bruise on me too. That’s probably why I’ve never shot another shot gun!

  16. I’m a liberal too and I love my guns! The range is a pretty cool place. I need to get a new pink handgun and I’m working on my CHL! Guns are a part of being a Texan. As long as we all follow the laws, I think they are fine.
