As you all know I am a self proclaimed Starbucks/Coffee addict! Preferably lattes. As you also know I am doing a 60 day no spending challenge. I said at the beginning that Starbucks was not included because to me it was a necessity. As of today I have not been to Starbucks in one week.

I own a Keurig and I purchase espresso K-cups and a Frother. Now I make lattes at home. Wow Neely should have thought of that before huh? I blame my friend Dana who we stayed with in Austin 2 weekends ago it was her idea. The frother basically pays for itself in about as of Thursday. Plus honestly I am loving my at home lattes, they are better and I can make as many as I want.

I am not saying I will never go to Starbucks again thats just silly.

Of course I love my red cups and I love grabbing a Starbucks while walking around the mall. But for the most part I have quit Starbucks. I know this may come as a shock but doing the math and realizing how much I spend a year vs. the fact that each k-cup is 60 cents. Yeah no contest there.

Anyways. Im doing great on no spending officially 3 weeks in. I have no purchased anything I do not need and I have looked at May vs April and noticed I have “saved” over $600. Thats pretty crazy!

I love thinking about all the money Im saving and the difference in wants and needs. Its really opened my eyes.

I plan on doing a big recap post at the end of June with what all I have learned but this was just another step in the process.

Thanks for all the great words while I am challenging myself! You guys rock.

So whats something major you cut out of your life?

This is really inspiring Neely! I keep saying I am going to do the same but have yet to :-/
I have a keurig at home and at work so the Starbucks really isn’t my problem but I need to make a more concerted effort like you xo

Can I ask how you’re making your lattes? Do you just poor the frothed milk on top of the espresso?

$600 is huge! Think of all the things you can buy with that money once your spending freeze is over! πŸ™‚ I kid, I kid…it would look nice and pretty in a savings account for when you and A move, too! Either way, that’s pretty rad.

I would love for my hubby to quit starbucks (I’m not a coffee fan) but the best I can get with that is that there isn’t one that close to us at the moment but he certainly does stop whenever he’s by one.

That’s awesome!! I’d love to have a keurig just because I think they’re cool, but I don’t drink nearly enough coffee to justify that expense.

I’m totally the same.. I bought an espresso machine (and a frappuccino machine) so I could start making them at home, and they’re good, but sometimes I just want one from Starbucks! It’s out of my hands, really. I’ve done all I can do. Starbies for life.

That is a lot of money to be saved! Good for you. I totally need to do a no-spend month. I don’t have a Starbucks where I live anymore, but I started drinking McDonald’s smoothies frequently. They were easy and relatively low-cal so I told myself that they were okay to buy. The last couple weeks I’ve been making my own and while I don’t know if I’ll save a whole tone of money, at least I know the exact ingredients. I’m counting that as a win.

Good for you! I put myself on a no spending rule 2 years ago. I have not bought any new clothes, shoes or accessories. I did this so I could stop spending unnecessarily and save money. So far its great! I style from my closet and own accessories and realize the pressure to spend is our own doing and really stupid. I feel so empowered and love my new rule. I also stopped Starbucks about 3 years ago and never looked back!

  12. Wow! That’s a huge savings! A few years ago, I stopped buying tabloid magazines because I was literally buying like 6 a week at $3.99 each!

Good job! My No Spend Month is almost over and this week has been SO HARD! I’m really impressed that you’re doing 60 days! The biggest shocker to me was when I looked at my bank account and all of my May spending fit onto the one page. WOW!

I love homemade lattes & I’m so glad you’ve discovered them – so worth it!
I was trying so hard to stay from Starbucks (and therefore my app) that I later realized I’d missed my free drink reward πŸ™ But all in the name of avoiding unnecessary treats! Not easy when summer makes me think of frapps and iced coffees πŸ™

I would really like to know more about the “frother” if you are OK with sharing – what brand do you have? I have had friends who have purchased some that they weren’t really pleased with, so if I get one, I want to make sure it is a good one!

This isn’t a recent “cut” but I bring my own lunch to work every day. It isn’t awfully fancy some days, (think cheese, peanut butter, and crackers) but it is definitely cost efficient. There are lots of lovely excellent restaurants near where I work, so it is sometimes tempting, but it really does save a tremendous amount of money. Good work on kicking the everyday Starbucks habit!
