Make The Most Out Of Mundane Activities

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know I love to read. Books have always been a big part of my life. About a year ago I fell in love with audiobooks too! We were about to go on a vacation with Andrew’s family to South Carolina, and I decided randomly to download the Audible app because I had a free trial. Who knew a year later I would still love it and tell everyone I know about it. If you aren’t familiar with Audible, let me break it down for you. Audible (an Amazon company) is the leading provider of premium digital spoken audio information and entertainment. Audible content includes more than 250,000 audio programs from leading audiobook publishers, broadcasters, entertainers, magazine and newspaper publishers, and business information providers. So basically Audible is a book lovers dream come true! Especially for those who are super busy! There are so many activities in our day to day lives that are just not fun. So here is how to make the most out of mundane activities.

Since we live in the suburbs and kind of far from EVERYTHING, I spend a lot of time in my car. Going to the gym, to see family members or friends, going to the good mall etc. When I’m in the car I listen to podcasts and audiobooks. The great thing about listening to audiobooks is you can listen to them while doing the most mundane of activities. Like driving. I also love it because it keeps me calm when driving. I tend to get a little road ragey and listening to a book makes me actual enjoy the drive.

Some people just hate working out and going to the gym. While I am not one of them, I know that going to the gym can be a mundane activity. Try listening to a book on Audible! Talk about a way to make a workout go faster! I started listening to audiobooks at the gym on that vacation to South Carolina! We would go to the fitness center every day and since I had started listening to a book at the beach I wanted to keep listening. One day I ran for 3 miles without even realizing it because the book was so interesting.

Listening to audiobooks while cleaning or doing household activities such as laundry, or unloading the dishwasher makes the time go quickly. In fact, it makes some of the activities I enjoy the least more fun. I sit there and fold laundry, vacuum, or mop and I actually look forward to it knowing its my time to listen to a book!

One of my favorites that I recently listened to was November 9 by Colleen Hoover. I read the book back in November and I really loved it, so I downloaded it on Audible to listen to! Honestly something about hearing people read the words made the book even more enjoyable the second time. I have quite a few books on my “summer reading list” and I plan to devour a lot of them through Audible all while making the most of mundane activities. Some of the books are: After You, The Boys In The Boat, The Queen of Babble series by Meg Cabot, Perfect Match by Jodi Picoult, and Summer Secrets by Jane Green. These all seem like perfect summer reads!

So have I convinced you to try Audible yet? Go here to sign up and get a free 30 day trial! Trust me you will thank me! Need more convincing? Beyond the books I listed above, here are just a few of the books you can listen to: The ENTIRE Harry Potter Series, You Are A Badass, Me Before You, The Fifty Shades series, The Divergent Series, and The Girl On the Train. So many great options! You can really make the most out of mundane activities by adding an audio book to it!

What book are you going to download first?

  6. I used to commute 30 minutes each way before I had kids. I did audio book all the time. I never thought to do it while doing the mundane things… brilliant!! Especially for walking or running. I love music, but I still get bored. Why did I not think of audio books?! Thanks!!

  16. I LOVE audiobooks! I really didn’t think they’d be my thing until I learned just how much I love podcasts and more so, driving while listening to one. Now, I commute to work with an audiobook and listen to podcasts while working on the tasks that don’t interfere.

i am so torn on audio books. They seem like a really cool idea. But I feel like I would miss the actual book in my hand. I think if I had a super long car ride I would totally try them.
