Motherhood Is…

I am slightly over 3 years into this motherhood thing. There are times I feel like I am still a teenager and can’t take care of myself let alone two tiny humans. There are also days I feel like an elderly person hobbling to bed. I wanted to share what Motherhood is to me and I would love to hear what Motherhood is to you.

Motherhood Is…

Motherhood is…

Being exhausted all the time.

Making up silly songs and dances about things like brushing teeth. “Gotta brush brush brush your germies out…” going strong for 2 years now.

Talking someone off the ledge about Daniel Tiger not being available to watch right then.

Knowing that having 2 cheeses, Mickey Mouse chips, and applesauce at school pick up is necessary to survive meltdowns.

Being able to change a diaper in under 20 seconds.

Heating up your coffee 4 times before you’ve had one sip.

Multitasking between shhh-ing a baby, playing trains, and answering emails.

Knowing all the words to every song in Moana, Trolls, Paw Patrol, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

Sharing the last bite of something you really want to eat because a tiny voice says “can I want some mommy?”

Putting yourself last 99% of the time but loving every second.

Getting more excited about buying something for them than yourself.

Celebrating the little wins of the day.

Crawling into bed exhausted but happy.

I would love to know what Motherhood Is to you! Share below!

This! This is exactly what it is. Plus those reassuring conversations in the middle of the night when they have a bad dream or something scares them even when you feel like you can’t keep your eyes open but still make your way to their room. Now it’s also being responsible for their education and making sure they stay on track for school next year. I always tell my boys that my #1 job is to keep them safe, #2 is to make sure they grow up to be good people.

Motherhood for me is exhausting but totally rewarding. My children are grown, and I really have no idea how I survived those toddler years. It is a full time job, with no vacation leaves, no lunch breaks, and no salary, but the intangible rewards are priceless.

  5. It sounds like you are really enjoying motherhood. I think that most good moms put their kids’ wellbeing and happiness before their own.

  6. This is a wonderfully realistic description of motherhood. It’s pure craziness most times, but worth all of it!

I’d say I totally agree with you. Motherhood was exactly that to me until my youngest child reached school age. Then things change. You get to rest more and have more time for yourself but at the same time you start having other worries and things to solve and think about get bigger as well!

Motherhood is definitely about being silly and having fun to me. Yet it’s also a great responsibility I take very seriously.
