When I got pregnant and even before then, I knew my husband would be an amazing dad. He’s just a genuine, caring, kind, human. So that was never a doubt. Mind you, until the day Liam was born he had never held a baby let alone changed a diaper or made a bottle. So you can imagine my surprise when he jumped in with both feet and never looked back. Since Father’s Day is coming up I want to share a little about how watching my husband become a dad has been my greatest joy.
My Greatest Joy
When Liam was a newborn I think we both felt like we had no idea what we were doing. Andrew was a little more cautious than I was because I had been around lots of babies. Sure, I had never been responsible for one all day everyday before, but I felt a little more comfortable.
Andrew has always been one to jump up if Liam cries, or get on the floor and play with him. He doesn’t wait to be told that bottles needed to be cleaned, diapers purchased, or a sippy cup filled. He is ALWAYS thinking about things that can be made better for Liam (for me too but I’m focusing on his dad skills today).
He doesn’t shy away from the jobs as a parent that are less than desirable. Namely changing diapers. When he is home he almost always changes the diapers. I know most men tend to freak out a little with diaper changes but not him. Liam can sometimes get a little rambunctious on the changing table (it’s a stage) and Andrew is great at getting him to be still. He’s silly and fun and distracts him. He never gets impatient or freaks out. No one makes Liam laugh like his daddy. Some days it’s doing animal noises or maybe it’s singing his favorite songs. But Liam is always excited for daddy to be the one changing his diapers! Of course I think one thing that makes him ok with changing diapers is that we use Pampers Baby-Dry Diapers and they are the best! I love that every day when Andrew gets home from work Liam exclaims “DADA!” and reaches for him. It just melts my heart.
I love that Andrew reads to him, and uses silly voices for books. I love that Liam could legit be Andrew’s twin at this age- ok at every age so far. I love that he shares his interests with Liam and that Liam wants to do everything daddy does.
My husband is by no means perfect but watching the joy in both of their faces when they look at each other has really become my greatest joy. People told me you fall in love with your husband all over again when you see him become a dad and in the 16 months since Liam has been born that could not be truer.

This is so sweet!! I’ve loved watching my husband become a father and watching him bond with our daughter. And I am so thankful to also be married to someone who doesn’t need to be told when things have to be done haha if our daughter needs a clean diaper or a bath (or whatever it may be), he just does it.
