Like 99% of women in America I have bought into the two big PORN topics of the summer…
50 Shades of Grey
and Magic Mike
Here are my thoughts and opinions(please note these are my thoughts and opinions, not to say that anyone who thinks or feel different is wrong…just how I feel):
I was told 50 shades was amazing. I was told by several people to download it right now and read it and it will be the best book ever. I downloaded the first one, I read it or at least I tried. I barely made it through half of the book when I said “NO MORE!” Not that I am anti kinky sex cause I am surely not. I mean to each their own, but it was the writing that I couldn’t deal with. The writing was freaking terrible! I know I shouldn’t have expected The Great Gatsby and I didn’t but I expected it to not sound so….I dont know written by a high school freshmen going through puberty. I did not finish the first book and I flat our refuse to read anymore.
Magic Mike: OK I admit I went for the naked, I did not go for a story. I could have had headphones in listening to the Avett Brothers and I wouldn’t have cared. But my god the girl who plays Channing Tatums love interest is terrible! Also I feel as though Matthew M’s character is his Dazed and Confused character as more of a grown up and in a different decade…If I have to hear “Alright Alright Alright” One more time….
I went for Naked men dancing and thats what I got. I couldnt have used a little more naked men dancing though…I mean I paid $13….
What are your thoughts on the summer porn?

I felt the same way about 50 Shades! Once I get over the kinky sex all I could think about was how terrible the writing was. I ended up struggling to finish the book and then I just read the synopsis of the second two. I’m happy I didn’t waste my time actually reading them.
I agree with you about 50 Shades. Of course, I was tricked into buying it by the hubs and it wasn’t only the writing that turned me off from it, but the bondage was just not up my alley.
I do want to go see Magic Mike, but only for the sexy men. Mainly, for Joe Manganiello (he is a sexy beast!)
I have been saying for months that 50 Shades is the most poorly written book I have EVER read (didn’t stop me from reading all 3 though)…so is life.
I read the first book of Fifty Shades and had a hard time finishing it. Haven’t seen Magic Mike yet.
I agree that the 50 shades writing is pretty terrible.. but I still got sucked into the madness. And I’ve heard the same thing about Magic Mike! I think I’ll save my 13 bucks… maybe redbox it… we’ll see.
Chose not to read 50 Shades of Grey and am glad I did. Heard it was poorly written so I’m glad I spared myself that agony. Not sure if I will go see Magic Mike or wait until it comes out on DVD/Netflix. Not sure it’s worth the money. Thanks for your reviews! Love reading your blog.
Read the books… was just another easy summer read for me.. sometime I need them and this fit the bill. I got it b/c of the hype and finished, well b/c I bought the book and well i was going to read it! But yes bad writing, its another one of those written just so Hollywood can make it a movie (i.e. Dear John & that Miley movie). I call a spade a spade and moved on… Have not seen Magic Mike and now that the reviews are not so good I probably won’t.. I’ll wait til its $4.99 on my TV!
I just read the book. The writing was so terrible! I was so sick of reading the same lines/words/phrases over and over again. A friend of mine said she really preferred the second book so I’ll borrow that and see where it goes. I also saw Magic Mike and thought the girlfriend actress was awful. But that Channing Tatum is tres-sexy. Who knew? I guess I’ve been out of the Channing Tatum loop as I never saw The Vow or that other dancing movie or whatever he did before. I felt like my popcorn made up for the boring bits but for sure there should have been more dancing. /cougar
You’re going to have to share your google analytics after this post!! LOLOL All the traffic sources are going to be funny just because you used porn so much 😉
The 50 books were horrible. HORRIBLE. The writing was bad, repetitive, and don’t get why everyone is so excited about the porn aspect. I’ve read just as good if not better sex scenes in romance novels. You can download tons of free erotica on Amazon. Why is everyone acting like this has never been written before? I will go see Magic Mike if it comes here (I’m on a military base overseas, it’s slim pickings for movies), but I’m not expecting anything and our movies are $5. It would cost the same to rent and it would be a fun girl’s night!
I literally said the same thing to one my my girlfriends the other day!
I totally agree about 50 shades. I personally was put off by ALL THE SEX and terribly annoyed by the writing. It made me feel like I was reading the same annoying angst that Kristin Stewart gives in all of her movies… particularly twilight. Made the mistake of downloading the 2nd one before I realized I didn’t like the first and now I feel obligated to finish since I already bought it… which means I’ll probably finish the third because I don’t know if I can bring myself to only read 2 out of 3 books in a series. BLAH.
As for magic mike. I’m looking forward to nakedness… and that’s about it 🙂
I am completely with you on “Magic Mike.” I wish the whole movie had just been a bunch of routines and dancing. Seriously. There was no need for that “plot.” At all. And I paid $7, so … whatever.
I bought “50 Shades” because I was curious. But I’ve had too many people say it’s terrible. And they say the sex scenes in there aren’t all that fantastic either. I even had a few librarian friends (the naughty kind of librarians…ha ha) say I shouldn’t read it. When a librarian is telling you not to read something, it’s probably good advice. So I will probably remove it from my Kindle without reading a page.
I am queen prude and haven’t taken part of either of these things.
I do not judge anyone who reads 50 Shades or sees Magic Mike but I personally have felt the Lord tell me specifically that these things are not good for my heart and should not be a part of my life.
Again, no judgies to anyone who feels differently, they just aren’t for me!
I just finished 50 shades mostly because I’m that person who will finish every book just because. I mean I’ve read a book and at the end been like terrible. Waste of time. Oh well. Magic Mike was the cheep thrill I think we all wanted but the story line was just lame. And yes the love interest was horrible. Just think though the DVD will have all kinds of amazing extras 🙂
I agree, I went to see Magic Mike to see hot men dancing around nearly naked, not for the story! I give the naked dancing two thumbs up! lol! oh and yes, that Brooke girl was terrible!!
That’s how I felt about 50 Shades too! I read all three books because I got sucked into the story, but the writing is definitely horrible!!! I will say that the second book was WAY better than the first, but that could have been just because I was invested by that point. 🙂
I’ve heard Magic Mike is horrible. I think I will be passing on that. Or renting it when it comes out on DVD. Like you said… naked men. HAHAHA
I definitely bought into the 50 Shades trend – and honestly, loved it. No, the writing wasn’t great – but I’ve read worse – and I wasn’t expecting great writing. I enjoyed the story to be honest. The sex got a little repetitive, but I truly enjoyed the story of it all. I know this book has a lot of lovers and a lot of haters and very, very few people who are in between with it. But I’m glad I read it. {again, that’s just me ;)}
As for Magic Mike – I haven’t watched it yet, but definitely plan on it. Half naked Channing – yes, please. 😉
I couldn’t agree more! I didn’t even attempt 50 shades, because well, it just didn’t sound that good plus one of my best friends struggled to get through it and told me not to waste my time. I went to Magic Mike. I even went to the midnight showing with a whole gaggle of girlfriends. We all left disappointed. Not by Channings dance moves or the other men but by the movie in general. I think there is a reason chippendale shows only last about an hour.
Shamelessly loved 50 Shades. By all means, I don’t champion it for it’s great writing, but something about those books grabbed me and I loved them. I could’ve done with less sex scenes (or less graphic ones) but it was really their story, and Christian’s Fifty shades specifically, that drew me in.
And Magic Mike – amen on the story line and love interest. Hated Matthew in it. He was SUPER annoying and you could tell from the first second that that’s how he was going to be. I went for Channing and I wasn’t disappointed 😉
Haha– this made me laugh. I didn’t even try the 50 Shades book because of exactly that– the writing would’ve killed me. And wait, what? There’s a storyline in Magic Mike??
Well I loved the 50shades, and I certainly can’t wait to see Magic Mike. Yay for summer porn!
I read the first Fifty Shades and I have no desire to read the other 2. The only reason I finished it was because I paid for it. I absolutely hated the way she ended the book, it was one of the most poorly written books I’ve ever read and I cringed every time Anastasia said “he touched me There” or “Double Crap” I mean what 22 year old either of those things. Certainly not one that would be into kinky sex. UGH!
I loved 50 Shades but completely understand what you mean about it’s writing quality. As for Magic Mike, I agree with you 100% the story line was interesting to say the least and I wasn’t expecting it to get so deep with the drugs and what not. Matthew was awkward in this movie and even though he’s getting old, I give him credit for his abs. Thank God for Channing.
I can’t even start to tell you how much I disliked 50 Shades. I wont rent here but here’s my post on it: http://eatshopandbemarried.blogspot.com/2012/06/is-it-ethical.html
The plot is ripped off of Twilight, as are the characters. The writing is awful and not meant for publication and the sex parts aren’t even written well. The book was more about contract law then anything else. I read the first and that was it.
As far as Magic Mike, I’ll be seeing that this weekend. 🙂
I finished the first book of 50 Shades, but hated it. I don’t understand glamorizing what he was doing to her. I know you didn’t finish it, but it’s hard for me to understand why women loved this book so much when all Ana kept doing was crying in her pillow over how Christian “shamed” her and made her feel degraded. No one should ever feel that way in a relationship! I have no problem with the bondage lifestyle if both parties are okay with it. This was not the case. At the end of the book, she asks him to beat her with a belt as hard as he could so she could see what the boundary was. She began to cry because of the pain almost immediately, got up, slapped him, and walked out of his apartment. That’s how they ended it. Not cool.
I liked Magic Mike, but agree that the girl was not good. She was so judgmental and blah and they definitely left a lot of the story open-ended. Matthew McConaughey is not attractive anymore. He needs to not be in anymore movies wearing a banana hammock.
I completely agree with what you said about 50 Shades of Grey. I don’t understand what women found attractive about Christian Grey. He just seemed possessive and scary…
The writing in 50 Shades appalled me. That woman needs an 8th grade English class! I mean, you could read the same thing (written better) in Cosmo. I, too, only made it through about 1/3 of the book.
I haven’t read 50 Shades yet but I want to just to see what the fuss is about. I totally know what you mean though. I felt the same way with the Twilight books but I still ready all of them from pure curiosity. And I saw Magic Mike too. Totally went for the men and not the story as well haha. Channing’s love interest was terrible though. I completely agree. She kind of reminded of Kristin Stewart. The Kid irritated me a lot too.
I am on the 2nd book of the Fifty Shades Trilogy and will finish them. I find them highly entertaining and enjoy reading them. They are easy reads, not meant to be highly intellectual, I don’t think!!!! Either people love them or they hate them, it seems. I also saw Magic Mike on opening night. Channing Tatum makes me happy no matter what he’s wearing {or not wearing} or doing. 🙂 The story could have been better, but hey… I figured the story would blow going into it. 🙂
I couldn’t get into the 50 shades…I do enjoy some crazy sexy time, but the writing, shoot myself in the face!
Magic Mike, yes please!
I don’t care if there is no storyline at all, as long as their is some sexy men shakin’ what their mama’s gave them.
I bought 50 shades of grey because I saw it all over the internet! EVERYONE was reading it. I bought it before I knew what it was about. Now I really have no desire to read it.
It’s been sitting on my bookshelf since I found out what it was about.
And as for the movie, I really have no desire to see it. But to each their own.
I also did not like 50, I just read them to get through them. They did get better but I do not recommend them. Magic mike on the other hand, I loved! I cried, laughed and it did make me more than slightly uncomfortable because that is me. People are saying how men are being objectified ; honestly, I am ok with that. How many times are women objectified, it fulfilled my expectations as the only thing I wanted was some good looking men 🙂
don’t want my hubs reading penthouse…so i won’t read the girl porn
don’t want hubs watching a stipper chick movie…so again…won’t dishonor him by seeing that movie either….can’t understand the big deal….give me a good movie like the ‘notebook’ any ol day to get me weak in the knees! :o)
I seriously feel so guilty for admiting I loved 50 Shades, but oh well :). I probably won’t get to the theater to see Magic Mike but it’ll be the perfect movie for a girl’s night in!
Love your blog, especially the title! Count me as your newest follower!

I loved 50 Shades, but the writing was not on a fabulous level that’s for sure. I did actually enjoy the storyline some though! I haven’t seen Magic Mike yet – I think I will wait for DVD!
Oh my, I loved 50 Shades and have read it numerous times …. not for the writing, of course, but the story itself is interesting (to say the least!). As for Magic Mike, I want my $9 back. Seriously, that was the biggest disappointment EVER. The promotional ads and videos were better than the two hours I spent in the theater. BORE-ING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh. Well.
Happy Fourth!

I wasn’t a huge fan of 50 shades either. I was intrigued by the love story between the two, but it didn’t change my world like all my friends said it would. Maybe because I’m happily married? Dunno…
Magic Mike looks so cheesy and ridiculous to me. Like those really bad dance movies that come out every few years. Sure the guys are pretty, but I wouldn’t be able to handle the dialogue!
I started 50 shades because so many people said it was ‘so good’ ! Couldn’t agree more that the writing was TERRIBLE but I couldn’t help but think that all the women in such support of a book like that is shameful. Shameful in that it encourages to treat us like Christian treated her. As a girl who has unfortunately been in long term relationship with guys just as controlling I can honestly say it makes me sick that people find it entertaining. It’s hard, it’s not easy and is sure as heck as damaging as can be to someone whether they try and protect their heart or not.
Ok, so you probably already saw my take on the 50 Shades trilogy. They were fun fluff reads for me…but I won’t be spending hours and days of my life afterward fantasizing about them. Nope! 😉
As for Magic Mike, um…I definitely went to see it on Sunday last week with my MOM. We are awesome. Honestly – it was also fun! Will it win any awards? Nope. But it was cool to also see the places around town that they used for filming (since I live in the Tampa area)…and now I am FURIOUS that I never heard about the filming when it was going on last year. I mean….I could have been an extra! I’m somewhat devastated over it.
I read all three of the 50 Shades Trilogy in about 2 days! I love all the books! Just like 90% of the female population here in the United States, I am in love with Christian Grey & Proud of it! (:
Now, Magic Mike…. I as well went for the nakedness. I definitely could have used so much more nakedness, but I’ll just wait for Magic Mike 2 which may be coming out in Summer of 2014! So I’ll just have to wait for more Channing Tatum nakedness or I can go on youtube! As for the female lead role… I would have chosen better. The plot of the stroy was pointless, but like you said, what more could any girl seeking for hot stripper guys ask for!
<3
The writing in ’50 Shades’ is probably better than the writing on your blog – at least it would have some proof reading and grammar! ’50 Shades’ is erotica – not porn. “Magic Mike” doesn’t even qualify as erotica OR porn.
Do us a favor. Buy a dictionary, take some English classes. Also, go to a sex store and ask them what the word ‘porn’ means.
I haven’t read either. glad I didn’t bother with 50 shades.
It’s been stated that becoming bullied builds character, but studies have proven the opposite is true. Rather than developing a thicker skin, children which are bullied, the fact is, are in a significantly larger danger for depression, anxiousness, as well as other mental disorders compared to bullies themselves (or kids which can be not bullies, but don’t get bullied both). There have even been laws passed in a variety of states to stop bullying due to the increasing number of bullying incidents plus the severe effects.
