Newborn Essentials

Our little Liam is growing like a weed. Now that he’s been in our lives for a bit I wanted to share my absolute must have newborn essentials. These are the things that we have been loving and using nonstop these first several weeks.

Newborn Essentials

Ubbi*: Ubbi was kind enough to send me a diaper pail, diaper caddy, wipes dispenser, and bath toy organizer. While we haven’t been able to use the bath toy organizer due to a weirdly designed bathtub, they were kind enough to let me donate it. The items we are using we are using NON STOP. First let me rave about this diaper pail. First of all it holds A LOT of diapers. You can use regular trash bags so you don’t have to buy anything special. It also doesn’t smell bad! I have dealt with diaper pails before that you could smell rooms away. We had this in our kitchen the first few weeks when we basically lived downstairs only and it never once smelled. The caddy is really helpful for keeping all of the ointments and extra diapers organized. The wipes dispenser makes everything look a lot more sleek and tied together on our changing table. I am a huge fan of Ubbi products, their company, and their message. I highly suggest checking them out.

Hot Safe™ Bath Duck*:  This BPA free duck is great when you don’t know if the bathwater is too hot or too cold. It turns white when hot and you will always know the right temp to keep baby safe. It is available on Amazon!

Dockatot*: DockATot sent me the DockATot Deluxe and you guys, it’s one of the ONLY places this baby will sleep. He sleeps pretty well in his bassinet at night and in the Rock-N-Play, but the DockATot is his fav. It’s also nice because I can work on the couch or in bed with him right there with me! We bring him into bed with us in the mornings with the DockATot for a little extra snooze as well. We have also since ordered an extra cover because we don’t want to be without it!

UPPAbaby*: We received the UPPAbaby VISTA Stroller and MESA car seat and they have been perfect for us. We’ve been using it tons for walks! We have been LOVING the stroller/car seat combo. It’s super easy to get in and out of the car, which is a bonus. I love how easy the car seat snaps into the stroller base and how seamless it is to remove the bassinet part, snap in the car seat, or vise versa. Plus, this stroller will work for years and years and could even hold up to 3 kids! Perfection!

Swaddles: Andrew had a friend tell him about these SwaddleMe blankets and we ordered them while we were in the hospital and then ordered more about 3 days later when we realized we can easily go through 2 a night if Mr Liam has a blowout (#momlife). We also love Swaddle UP! These are great too because they zip and if you have a baby who loves having their hands near their face these are perfect!

Pearhead Chalkboard*: I had seen super cute monthly chalkboards all over Pinterest and Instagram and Pearhead sent us this one. We were so excited on month one to fill in all of Liam’s stats, likes, and dislikes and I look forward to seeing how they change over this next year.

Keekaroo: One of my good friends told me she swore by the Keekaroo Peanut Changer. It doesn’t require any sheets, or pads, baby can pee all over it and it easily wipes down. It’s super cushy and soft and fits on most any changing table. Basically it’s a miracle and for sure one of the newborn essentials you’ll be glad you have. In the first few weeks Liam peed during diaper changes more times than I could count, and I was so glad this was the changing mat we chose. In fact Andrew said more times than once he was glad I convinced him.

Bottles*: Our baby is a bit picky about his bottles, which we quickly learned upon arriving home from the hospital. Thankfully we had the Joovy Boob Bottles. These are SO great for babies and Liam has LOVED them. They clean very easily and they don’t have a ton of confusing parts. They are dishwasher safe and sterilizer safe.  They also have a variety of nipple levels for different ages.

Owlet*: Even having Liam in our room in a bassinet the first nights at home we were concerned over every single noise, movement, etc. I asked Andrew about a billion times to make sure he was breathing. I was so glad we had the Owlet and decided to try it out right then. Being able to monitor Liam’s heart rate and oxygen makes me feel about a million times better. If anything changes we get a notification to our phones. It’s one small sock on his foot and a lot of comfort for mom and dad. Plus, the app is available for iPhone and Android!

Rock-n-Play: Several of my friends told me to make sure I registered for a Rock-N-Play and I am so glad I did. Like the DockATot, it’s one of the ONLY things Liam likes to sleep in. We have a ton of baby products and that’s one of his favs. He takes the best naps in it during the day and I love that it has music that he actually enjoys. We can almost guarantee and 3-4 hour sleep stretch when he’s in it. If you are having a baby this is absolutely one of the newborn essentials.

Bibs: We randomly had some Burts Bees Bibs and once we started using them we had to buy more. These are hands down my favorite bibs! They pull over the head so no snapping and they are perfect for bottle feeding. You can easily wipe up drool, spit up, and bottle leaks and they are SUPER soft! I think I got two from a baby needs pack on Zulily and then bought the rest on Amazon. Mommas you need these bibs!

I would love to know what some of your newborn essentials are or were. Let me know!

  2. Such an exciting time for parents (and grandparents!). When my daughter was pregnant she was blown away by the generosity of family and friends with the gifts she received for her baby shower. You can never have enough bibs can you and a baby monitor really helps put your mind at rest.

  12. So cute! I have four boys and my youngest is 7 weeks old. 23 love our little bedside sleeper, swing, and rock n play. We also love that we got a baby monitor since our home is three levels. If baby is asleep upstairs we can be in the kitchen or living room and hear the. Any and every noise he makes with the baby monitor.

I don’t have kids yet so I’ve always wonder why you need a diaper genie. I assumed you could just use a trash can. But I didn’t realize that it wouldn’t hold in the smell!! Good to know! Now, I definitely know why diaper pale I’ll need whenever we start having kids.

  23. I love my Vista stroller. It’s SO easy to maneuver. The Rock n’ Play is awesome, though, Phoenix never gave us long stretches during the day in it. He slept in it at night until he started rolling over at 3.5 months.
