On Routines and Changes

Before I get to todays post I must say this. Today is September 11th. 12 years ago I walked into high school a few weeks after my senior year started. I went to my locker and a friend came up to me saying a plane crashed into the world trade center. My response was “planes crash all the time.” Our world was different. 12 years later I have been missing a best friend for 4 years who got killed in Afghanistan fighting for our Country. Our world is definitely different. Thank you to everyone who fights to keep us safe.

I dont know about many of y’all but I am a huge creature of habit. Change = not great, Routines= great.

Coming up there are a lot of changes with our move which means a whole new slew of routines to get adjusted to. Right now my routine is pretty simple. A’s alarm goes off around 6:15. I toss and turn for a while and eventually get out of bed at some point while he is getting ready and make my breakfast and coffee and start my work day. I work all day. I mean ALL DAY. Usually till about 10 at night. Of course I eat lunch, dinner, run errands, and work out sometime during those but usually meals are had in front of the computer. Not dinner though, that I have with A because its usually our only time together if I have a ton of work to do.

This work involves Social Media work for one of my many clients, Blog Consulting calls or meetings, meetings with clients, blog writing, freelance writing etc.

I usually heat up my coffee 4-5 times in the morning because drinking cold coffee is gross and I usually get busy and it gets cold.

Do I worry about my routine changing? Yes. Will it change much? Probably not too much. I mean at first it will be an adjustment to not go sit at the coffee table and do my work but to go into my actual office and do my work.

I will go to a different Starbucks on the days I have a hankering for the good stuff

I will go to a different Mi Cocina to pick up to go food.

I will shop at a different Target.

I will get gas at a different gas station.

I will get my mail at a different place.

I need to find a new PO box.

We have a much bigger place to clean: small one bedroom apt to large townhouse….yeah twice the size.

Sharing a closet…that should be fun. Once he see’s all the shoes and purses I actually own.

So yeah changes are coming but Im ready. It all happens how its supposed to happen. Im ready.

  1. I do not do well with change; it gives me a lot of anxiety. But I hope since all of these are good changes that you will have the fun element on your side! I can’t wait to see your new place and especially your new office where all the blogging magic will happen 🙂

  4. I’m not good on change myself. Before moving to the town I’m working in now, I had a huge anxiety attack about the whole idea of moving again. It took me 3 days to feel comfortable about it. So yeah, I don’t like change. 😉

  5. Ah yes, the fun of moving in with someone. You think you know their quirky habits, but you don’t. And suddenly you realize all the weird stuff you do, at least to someone else’s point of view. It’s all worth it!

I’m like you – so bad with change. I get stuck in my routine and it’s hard to change. When Nate and I moved in together, I cried the first 3 nights because I didn’t like how different things felt. I felt psychotic, but it is just so hard for me to get used to new situations.

Change is hard–especially when it requires your normal routine to change as well. I’m sure you’ll do well with it and you’ll adjust in no time at all!!

I had just started my senior year in HS too. I was pretty naïve. I thought when the first one hit it was just an accident.

I guess it depends on the type of change it is, but when it comes to my daily routine I hate change but if it is fun stuff like some of the new things you get to change that would be well welcomed! Good luck with all the changes!
