Science Is Amazing… Really

This post is sponsored by Cord Blood Registry ® (CBR ®), but the opinions expressed here are my own.

When I got pregnant with Liam I was inundated with so many options for labor, birth, etc. It was a lot to take in. Thankfully I had time to prep and research. One thing that caught my eye from day one was cord blood stem cell banking.  When my dad was sick with Lymphoma he needed a stem cell transplant. None of us were a match. Thankfully they were able to do some amazing things and he is fine now. But what if somewhere down the line something were to happen to someone else in my family? Cord blood banking with Cord Blood Registry (CBR) provides that extra peace of mind for our family’s future.

What is cord blood?

Your baby’s umbilical cord is made of tissue and contains blood, both of which are rich sources of stem cells that are unique and powerful. CBR is a stem cell preservation company that believes every family should have the opportunity to preserve their newborn’s stem cells. That’s why they offer affordable payment options to fit almost every family budget and also offer a Gift Registry, where friends and family can contribute towards the cost of banking. (Great gift idea!)

CBR believes in the power of all families and has a Newborn Possibilities Program® which assists families with a qualifying medical need by covering all costs for preserving their child’s newborn stem cells and storing them for 5 years. So basically anyone can do this and they will work with you!  When you choose CBR, you have access to their team of Certified Genetic Counselors, who can discuss your family’s medical history as it relates to newborn stem cells, and educate you on your options to preserve them for your family’s future.

This is how you do it and it’s insanely easy!

There are 5 simple steps:

  1. Enroll with CBR online at cordblood.com/enroll or call 1-888-240-1996
  2. CBR ships you a collection kit
  3. Bring your kit to the hospital on your big day
  4. Call the medical courier after your baby is born and the cord blood has been collected by your healthcare professional
  5. Relax. CBR handles the rest and will notify you when the kit has been received.

For me, I know this made the process so much easier!

15 years ago this was just starting to be available, but was so expensive. We had to pass on it, but wish we had gone forward!

  18. Such an important topic!! I wish I had known more about this when our daughter was born, but no one ever mentioned it to us. I would have loved to do it. But I definitely plan on doing it with baby #2.

I am not sure if we have this available in my country. I will have to check. Maybe the big international hospitals have it. This is a truly amazing medical achievement. If I had the choice, I would also do a CBR to ensure my child will have access to stem cells if and when he/she needs it.
