Summer Workout Musts

One of the things I love most about Summer is the variety of workouts that are available! It really is a great time to get outside and expand your workout horizons. I wanted to share a few of my Summer Workout Musts with you! I would also love to hear about your Summer Workout routines so please let me know in the comments below.

1. Swimming: I am a big fan of lap swimming in the Summer. Its the best full body workout you can get and a huge calorie burner. I usually try to do about 45 minutes of laps alternating between types of swimming: Free Style, Back Stroke, Breaststroke etc. I tread water for 5 minutes before and after for a 55 minute swim workout. This leaves me very tired but feeling like I got a great workout in.

2. Body Pump: I have not been to Body Pump in almost 2 years and this week I returned! THE BEST. This isn’t just a Summer workout but it will have you in Summer shape in NO TIME! The great part about Body Pump in my opinion is the full body workout to great music. Also you can take a break from the heat for this workout which is always good here in TX.

3. Another great in door workout that will have you in Summer Shape is Bar Method. Or really any Barre workout class. I recently tried Bar B Fit. It’s a little more fun version of other barre classes but still a great workout. I also try to get in at least one class at Bar Method a week!  Such a great sculpting and killer ab workout!

4. I also love walking. Yes does not sound super high impact but some days a 5-6 mile walk on a trail listening to some great music is just what a girl needs. The greatest part is you are still getting in a good workout and you get a little alone time. I am big about taking time for myself and this is one of my favorite ways to do that. I am lucky to live so close to one of Dallas’ best trails, The Katy Trail and try to go at least once or twice a week. Now with the heat setting in I almost always go first thing in the morning! Bonus its fun to grab a coffee to enjoy on the walk.

Those are usually the ones I stick to mostly. Granted I visit our gym in our townhouse complex quite often which is nice to have handy when I need a quick workout. But I try to get out of the house as much as possible.

What are your best ways to stay fit in the Summer?

  5. I LOVE long summer walks with friends or a dog. Morning runs are always a great way to start my day…humid and hot, the sweat is intense, but it always feels so good. I know it sounds crazy, but I still like to practice my hot yoga. 😉
