Of course I said YES!!! I went and bought the book and on my flight to Nashville read January and February.
Today However I will only be discussing January and my thoughts on it.
By the way if you want to participate go to Elizabeths blog and tell her! You can join at anytime 🙂
The Happiness project is about a woman who felt happy in her life but not as happy as she should be and its about her journey. She encourages people do participate because the steps you take in the happiness project will make you an all around happier person.
In the forward she made a list of her 12 commandments and I made my own list of those. I would prefer to keep my commandments to myself but I will document the rest of my journey through the happiness project. From now until December as its a chapter a month!
So January talks about boosting energy and Gretchens tips for that are:
Go to sleep earlier
Exercise better
Toss, Restore, organize(my fav)
Tackle a nagging task
Act more energetic
I took a ton of notes as you can see:
If you want to look close and read my notes thats perfectly fine and yes people looked at me weird as I took this picture on the plane
As far as going to sleep earlier I NEED to do that. I have made a challenge for myself to “unplug” on school nights by 9 and other nights by 11. No TV, no twitter, no facebook no email. She talks about how you should keep your room cool and not have any light of any kind on. If you get up for the restroom you should keep the lights off(which I d0). I hope I can sleep better and earlier and feel more refreshed. She talks about how much better she started to feel after she went to sleep earlier and I know I will feel better too!
I do think I exercise really well. I dont feel as though I need necessarily improvement on this but I feel like I should do more of my 75 minute workouts. I do about 4 or 5 a week and I need to get back up to 6.
The big one for me is toss, restore and reorganize. How many of us hold on to shopping bags cause we may need then? An outfit cause we MAY wear it? Half empty hair spray cause what if we want it? Old makeup cause we loooove that color!?!?
I am guilty as charged and this is a big thing I am working on. Obviously its Feb 1st so a lot of my Jan and Feb will be combined and it will be a busy month!
Tackle a nagging task. I am so bad doing things like hanging up that shirt or paying that magazine subscription. She says that any task that takes longer than a minute she does right then. I need to be better in that area for sure!
My big goal for a nagging task is to clean out my closet which both combines the nagging task and the toss restore reorganize. My goal for doing this is Feb 28th. By then I want to have cleaned out all drawers, cabinets and my closet.
Act more energetic: I love how she says “fake it till you make it”
Act happy and energetic and you will be!
I think sleep, exercise, and being organized help you feel more energetic. I know they help me feel more energetic.
What makes you feel more energetic?
I hope you guys keep reading or better yet link up and read the book! Its effing fabulous!
Thanks Liz 🙂

This sounds interesting. I might check it out.
This book sounds like it has a lot of wisdom, I’m going to see if I can flip through it the next time I head to bookstore.
I love the book club and I love this book.! It’s a great choice, hope you love it. Also I think as bloggers we are prone to get looked at awkwardly as we take picture.
That sounds like a great project! I am a sucker for self-help books like that, I might actually look into buying this one, as well!
I love your picture you took of your list! How awesome! I am right there with you, I need to clean out my closest, like ASAP! I will be, and once I do I will take before and after photos!
This sounds awesome – I may have to do this! My goal is to tackle the clothes at my house VERY soon (as in before we move) and hopefully when we move I’ll be giving away MORE clothes (of course because they’ll be too small!). I also have clothes at my mom’s house “in storage” waiting for the new house. They are mostly my “small” clothes and I hope to fit into those soon! I want to go through those as we move as well!
I like to do a “re-organization” every few months or so, I find it keeps me balanced. I especially do it when I’m feeling stressed about something else, not only does it serve as a distraction but it also just focuses my mind in the end. I’m so envious of your exercising capabilities, you won’t find me working out, ever!
I’ve got to work on my organization…my closet is starting to look like it is exploding! I can’t handle it anymore.
Sleep, exercise, and organize are definitely things I need to work on. I have been working on the organize thing while I’ve been cooped up in my apt. Hoping to do more tomorrow! And I’ve GOT to get started on this book!
