Twitter me this…social networking commentary

So I’ve been thinking a lot about social networking lately.

I love it. I love twitter, I love blogging, I have a love/hate relationship with facebook

But twitter is for certain my favorite. I was very opposed to it at first and now I cant live without it.

I find out about so many new things: sales, news, whats up with my friends etc

I love how my blog friends/IRL friends and I have conversations through it

I love that its become such a big part of life

I love reading celeb tweets

I love sharing with yall about Dawsons Creek and Felicity

Do you follow me? You should http://www.twitter.com/neelykins

I love that with twitter you can post status’, ask questions, post pics and get immediate feedback

I hate on facebook when you comment and you get notified to the nth degree when others comment behind you

I hate “liking” things because a lot of times I want to dislike things

I hate getting defriended…it makes me feel weird(confession)

I love blogging times infinity

When I started I kept thinking to myself…why do people do this?

Now I cant imagine my life without it and I cant imagine my life without my blog friends

Yall make everyday awesome with sweets comments and tweets and I love that I text/chat with so many of you outside of blogging

I heart Gchat…seriously I heart it

I dont do linkedin maybe because Im in grad school right now and have no use for it but I never really used it before…

Myspace was ridic and I had one and I never liked it. I always got emails from creepy old men.

I dont know I feel about facebook chat…usually when Im on facebook im there to stalk people not chat jk but seriously

Im contemplating if Ill get back on match.com or not

I suppose thats a form of social media social networking whatever

sigh…I guess we’ll see

Anyways my point with all this random rambling is

Social networking/media has become such a huge part of our daily lives and I can remember a time not so long ago when my cell phone didnt have texting, not everyone had email and if you wanted to talk to a friend or know what they were up to you called them or did what I did when I was in middle school and got on your bike and rode over to their house….

Do you miss that? I do

Great post, I’m the same way. I was SO anti-twitter when it first came out, and now, I so much as burn bread in the toaster, and I’m on Twitter reporting it. :p

I love the immediate feedback you talked about — makes shopping much easier (especially since I tend to like going alone — I can still get peoples’ opinions on what not to buy!).

Facebook & I aren’t friends like we used to. I “like” statuses, and then find myself “unliking” them a little while later because I’m sick of the notifications about people I don’t know “liking” the same thing I did — I don’t care! Facebook chat? Heck to the no. I am always “offline”. I haven’t had my chat set to “online” for about a year and a half now, lol. I agree, I’m there to stalk not chat! Hehe.

Blogging… don’t even get me started. I thought it was kind of a dorky thing at first.. and yet, here I am, 7 years later still spilling the details of my daily life here on the internet pretending people are interested, lol.

GChat = my BFF. I love it. L.O.V.E. it. Once I got my Droid, it was awesome, like texting w/ having to give my number out to everyone, you know?

As far as what I miss.. Hmm… I don’t so much miss the days where I would pick up the phone and call someone — texting is definitely easier in that sense. But I DO really miss writing and sending letters. I LOVE to write/send letters/mail. And social networking has sort of cut out an immediate need for that. So there’s one large downside for me.

And yes, totally agree – I miss hopping on my bike and heading over to my friends houses. But as far as that goes, I think that’s more along of the lines of missing being a little kid. Because, I feel like even if we didn’t have texting or IM or facebook, I still wouldn’t be riding my bike anywhere, hehe :p

Sorry this comment is soo long — there was just so much stuff to comment on! 🙂

I miss a good ole phone call. Especially when my BFF ignores my call. Lame. :[

But now, I can’t imagine my life without blogging and twitter. All my twitter friends and blog buddies are awesome. Instant feedback without lame Facebook comments from my mom = priceless. 😉

  9. Confession – I hate being defriended as well! Oh and what about the friend requests that just sit “pending” forever…weird!!!

There are times that I miss the old days. My students can’t even fathom having their parents call the school to relay a message. It’s almost as if parents have forgotten that as well since many of them call their son/daughter during class (and then wonder why they’re failing).

Social media and I have a love/hate relationship. Can’t live with it (somedays) and can’t live without (others).

If you do decide to try match.com again I wish you luck. My husband’s cousin met her soon to be husband (lol, that was a mouthful) on match.com after a failed marriage and a few failed relationships. In the words of Dori, “just keep swimming, swimming, swimming – just keep swimming.”
