Everyone for the most part has don’t a post about goals and resolutions. Mine is really neither.
There are things I want out of this year and if they happen great, if they don’t then I am not going to freak out.
This brings me to ….
1. I want to let go of control. I am a type A control freak 99% of the time. I need to let go of some of this control. Moving in with Chad next week will probably be a swift kick in the butt to let go of some control cause hey guess what it wont be just MY place anymore. I need to let go of control and realize I will get a full time teaching job eventually and yes 3 part time jobs plus subbing isn’t the most fun ever, but its something. I need to let go of control and realize I cant control other peoples actions. People WILL be mean, people WILL let me down, people WILL piss me off. I can only control MY reactions.
2. I want to be healthier…don’t we all? Isn’t that EVERYONE’s goal? Well I am healthy a lot of the time. Used to be 95% of the time. Lately more like 60% of the time. I need to get back to the 95%. This means: I don’t need pei wei twice a week, or pizza hut twice a week. I need to eat more salads that I love, smoothies, yogurt, good proteins, etc. I need to cook more. Living in our new place should allow for this. Our kitchen is HUGE!! If I don’t cook that’s just wasting the beautiful kitchen space. I also want to snack better: nuts, berries, Greek yogurt, veggies, cheese and crackers(in moderation). I NEED to drink more water. I only drink water, and coffee so this isn’t a huge thing cause I already drink a ton of water…but more would be good. I also need to work out more. I have never dipped below 4 workouts a week but usually I do 6. The past 8 weeks Its been more like 4 and I don’t like this. I got an idea for Gym Pact on Caitlin’s blog. Its an app on the iPhone where you bet money that you will work out a certain amount of days during the week. Like I bet $10 a day I will work out 3 days this week. If you miss one you pay if you do them all you get the money sent to your paypal account. Awesome right? Keeps you accountable! You can add anywhere that can be considered a gym: running trail, Pure Barre, Yoga studio, pool etc. Check it out!
3. I want to save more money: I am a SPENDER! I mean I really am. I won’t deny it. I’d rather go shopping, eat out, see movies, get pedicures, grab a Starbucks than save my money. Even if I’m home I online shop. Chad and I want to save money and pay off our student loans. This means: saving my gift cards from Christmas til there is something I really want. Working more hours, being smart about what I buy and where and when I buy it. I read a lot of great Suze Orman tips(shout out Meagan) over the holidays and I came up with a good plan so lets see if this works 🙂 I also want to be better about using coupons, impulse spending, and buying groupons I will never use. P.S. I’m not giving up Starbucks.
4. I want to read more. Books, magazines I subscribe to, blogs etc. I am a “best intentions” reader. I have the best intentions to read the books I buy, the magazines I subscribe to and my favorite blogs everyday but it doesn’t always work out. Not for lack of time but for lack of wanting to turn off the DVR. So this year is the reading year.
5. I want to unplug. It was sooooo fantastic to not have Internet on our trip. We had our phones but no serious computer stuff happens on my phone. It was great to watch movies together, talk etc without our laptops on. We are terrible about this. So this is the year I unplug more when Chad and I are together and just for my own sake. I know this may be tough for number 4 as I read on my kindle and read blogs online but I need to find a better balance.

So there you have it. What I want out of 2012….
What do you want out of 2012??

my husband and I decided to do one tech free night a week. We have figured itw ould be friday nights. This leaves time for us to go to dinner, play board games, or something fun where we wouldn’t be on the computer or tablets or phones

saving money can be so hard! I also use mint.com (its free and secure) to track spending…definitely helps you get an idea where your money is going!
Good luck, our whole lives changed when we decided to start being savers. After some tough months of getting it together we can now spend smarter and without guilt while saving.
I really really want to write the end of my book…I worked almost two years on it and so now I think it is time to finish it
I think these are wonderful Neely! And not unrealistic. I wish you the best accomplishing them all!
I desperately need to save more too, but it’s so hard! I’m just such a spender!
Good luck!
I think these are all wonderful goals! I would like to save more money as well. I feel like with Christmas I spent a lot (which is expected) but now I need to get back on the ball of saving money!
Sounds great! I need to eat better got off of it the past few months. I probably need to read less and make time for other things but I love my books!
These are all so realistic and very relatable. Cooking is great! I know once yall move in together you will want to cook more! Eric and I cook all the time at home and love it. PS I love you know you won’t give up Starbucks LOL.
These are all great! I want to make it a goal to “unplug” more too. The other evening I decided I was going to leave my phone, Kindle, and computer downstairs and just be with Luke. We didn’t do anything special, just kind of chilled out together, ate dinner, and watched a little TV (so I guess we weren’t TOTALLY unplugged. lol). and it was so nice! I might start trying to do this one evening a week because sometimes I lose track of reality because I’m so caught up with blogs, twitter, facebook, texting, and whatever else.
I’m not too type-A but I still have issues of letting go of control. That’s certainly something I must work on. And, yes as soon as you and Chad live together you’ll quickly learn the things you’ll just have to let go and the things you can fix…i mean live with HA!
The gym pact sounds amazing … but scares the crap out of me cause I think I would just end up owing a lot of money hahahaha …. GOOD LUCK to you! And moving out with the bf was the bets decision I ever made, you will love it! 🙂
These are great things to want. And I think they’re all do-able. I know you can do it!!!
I love all of these things. I am right there with you on all of them!!!! Especially the unplugging more. I bought a book called 1001 ways to live in the momet and one of the main things that it talks about is being able to unplug from the world and be fully present with whoever or whatever you are doing at the moment. Happy Monday!
I have been married a year and am still trying to figure out how to give up control! Good luck with your goals though. I think you will do great!
Saving is so hard for me! One of my biggies for 2012
These are all wonderful Neely!! I also want to read and unplug more this year…for my sanity!
Good luck! I think I need to set similar goals as you! Hopefully I can keep them too 🙂
GREAT things to do this year. I have an issue with the control thing, too. I have a hard time understanding I can’t control other people’s actions, etc.. haha.. *sigh* And love the getting healthier! The gym pact sounds great, but it conflicts wiht my spend freeze.. haha.. I mean, I’m going to the gym, but what if something comes up?! That would stress me out! LOL!
Good luck with these Neely! I am totally with you with the saving money and being healthier part!
These are great things to want out of 2012!! I am definitely going to check out GymPact… If I can literally get paid to go to the gym, I’ll never question it again!
I really like the unplug idea. I want to do this too at least one night a week. And I really want to save tons more. (but kind of when I want to take awesome trips this year)
Brand new blogger and follower here! LOVE your blog! 🙂
In 2012, I want to work on paying off debt. So, saving money as well, in a sense. Weddings are expensive!
Best of luck!
Great resolutions! I cant wait to hear about your adventures of living with Chad 🙂
