Working From Home(Without Losing Your Mind)

Today I have a fab guest post from the amazing Jordan! I met her at Blissdom and she is just as sweet as can be. As someone who now works from home part of the time I am loving this post. A MUST READ!

Working from Home (without losing your mind) I had the joy of meeting Neely this past February at Blissdom. Our lives are pretty similar right now as we both don’t have kids yet are BFF with mom bloggers, love blogging, work in social media/marketing and best of all… work from home from time to time! I know a big part of her readership includes moms, some of whom work from home (which is 100% my goal for when I have little ones) as well. I wanted to share some of my tips of how I make working from home work for me. I work from my Orlando apartment (I just moved there from the gorgeous city of St.Pete- pic posted below) probably 80% of the work week and the other 20% is when I have dinner meetings, networking events or conferences. Here are my five tips for working from home without losing your mind. 1. Establish a routine early on: I usually get up around 8 or 8:30am and check my email, get semi “dressed” aka workout clothes unless I have a meeting, grab a quick breakfast and get to work. Trying to keep every single day pretty similar from the start has helped immensely in my productivity. 2. Take a “smoke break”: I don’t smoke, but I sort of pretend that I do. Ex: I take a ten minute break every few hours to refill my water, grab a healthy snack, check Facebook- something not related to the task I’m working on. That way when I’m back at it I feel more refreshed because I took a few minutes to de-stress and chill for a few. 3. Don’t work in your bed: Not even for a few minutes. I made that mistake before I moved and would finish up work at night in my bed only to try to sleep and couldn’t. My brain was associating my bed with a place where I got work done…an office if you will. So I would lay and think about work and not sleep. Now I don’t even bring my work computer in my bedroom because my room is my room, not my office. 4. Eat at home: Take advantage of the fact that you have a full kitchen at your disposal and eat at home. You’ll save money, calories and can even have leftovers to eat the next day or for dinner. Now that is a plus. Bonus: Start a crock pot meal while you’re home and have meals that you can freeze for later or enjoy during the week. 5. Become a regular at a coffee shop: This is a little different than strictly staying at home, but the one disadvantage to working from home is the interaction you have with people from day-to-day is a lot less than someone with an office job. Make it a point to go to try out different coffee shops and become a regular there. Maybe by Thursday you are just itching for the weekend- a change of scenery and an iced coffee in a different environment certainly will make working more enjoyable.   Thank you Neely for sharing your blog with me today…I hope all you have enjoyed some of my tips for working from home and can put them in play with your daily routine!
