I wish I could change the way I….

Do you ever have those days where you just really want to change something about the way you do things? I am a horrible procrastinator. I wish I could change the way I procrastinate and don’t stay on top of things like I should. The frustrating part is I feel like as soon as I mark 5 things off my to do list 5 more things appear. It reminds me of the never ending pasta bowl at restaurants. You know you’ve eaten a ton but it doesn’t look like you’ve made any progress. That’s how I feel sometimes. I know I’ve gotten a ton of things done but I don’t feel like I have.

I wish I could change the way I feel the need to constantly clean. I know there could be worse habits in the world. But I can’t even eat dinner sometimes until the kitchen is cleaned up. I know it annoys Andrew when he’s cooking and I follow him around our tiny kitchen cleaning and throwing things away and wiping counters. But I can’t relax with a mess around.

I wish I could change the way I feel about the world we live in. I just feel like our world is falling apart sometimes. Everyday I read about ISIS, children being killed, peoples significant others dying tragic deaths etc. I just sometimes want to break down and cry for all of these families going through horrible times. I know praying for them is all I can do and I do that but it never feels like enough. I never feel like I can do enough.

I wish I could do more for people. I wish I could give more of myself, my time, my energy, my money to those less fortunate. I just feel like I want to save everyone but I know I can’t. I hate that sometimes I let it take over my mind so much.

I wish I was better about spending more time with my family. I feel selfish when there are weekends where I just want to do nothing and veg out on the couch. Some weeks are just like that. But then I feel guilty that I should have spent that time with family or friends.

I just want to be better.

Is there anything you wish you could change?

I wish I could change the way I worry about things I have no control over. And the things that don’t really matter.

Neely, nothing wrong with trying to be better in ways you think need improvement. Make a list, then take the first step.

I’m the same way as you with the cleaning. And it makes me feel really guilty sometimes because E works really hard to help around the house and make sure we both do our parts, and some nights he just wants to let the dishes sit in the sink. But I can’t concentrate or relax when things aren’t in order. I wish I were better about not letting stuff like that bother me.

I wish I didn’t worry about everything, which leads to me wanting to control everything. I also wish I was better at time management. And there are so many things I’d like to change about the world.

  5. I agree with all of these.

Well, except the cleaning one. I need to be better about cleaning up messes. I’m not a dirty person, but I’m kinda messy.

  6. Great post, Neely! There are definitely a few things I’d like to change about myself — I’m a colossal procrastinator too, so I’d like to do things when they’re assigned rather than wait until 45 minutes after the deadline. I’d also like to change the way I handle stress and, in some situations, my tone of voice could use some improvement!

You should think about joining Junior League next year! There are all kinds of organizations to serve – it would actually be perfect for you, since your schedule is flexible. You’re only required to do 60 hours of volunteering, which is is only 5 hours a month! Easy! It’s fun, great for networking & meeting other like-minded Dallas ladies. http://www.jld.net

We sound a lot a like. The world we live in stresses me out. Especially because I am raising two children in it.

I drive my husband nuts cleaning up while he cooks. I can’t help it. I hate a mess! lol

I wish I could change the way I overreact and over-analyze situations. I am a planner and when things don’t go as planned, I freak. I do not have a spontaneous bone in my body.

We definitely suffer from the cross one thing off the list add two problem.

We’ve done a pretty good job of making time for friends and family. Gets easier when people get busier it seems like. We don’t have as many invites.
