I always find it interesting to see what people who work for themselves and/or work from home do all day. I know a lot of people wonder what bloggers do all day, so I figured a look at a blogger’s work day post was in order. I get asked a lot what a typical day is like for me, so lets see what I do Monday-Friday.

6 AM: Up! Andrew wakes up around 5:45 for work, so I usually open my eyes somewhere around 6. I stay in bed for 20 or so minutes checking email, looking at Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. Sometimes I read blogs on Bloglovin.
6:30 AM: Out of bed and into the bathroom to wash my face, brush my teeth, and get dressed. I go to the gym in the mornings, so workout clothes it is.
7 AM: At the kitchen island with my laptop, lemon water, and oatmeal with sliced banana. I eat and share my post of the day on social media, and in blogging Facebook groups. I also schedule out my Twitter posts for the day.
7:30 AM: Leave house to go to the gym. My gym is in Dallas proper and we live in the burbs, so it takes me about 30 minutes to get there. I usually listen to podcasts on my drive and while I workout, or I listen to audiobooks or sports radio.
8-9 AM: Workout.
9-11 AM: Errands. I usually grab Starbucks if I’m going to be running errands and I head out from the gym. This could mean anything from Target, grocery stores, post office, dry cleaners, mall, whatever. Any errands I have to do during the day get done at this time.
11 AM: Sometime around here I am back home and back at my laptop. I will work on blog posts, social posts, emailing with brands about upcoming projects, or any other blog work from now until 5:30pm or so. Also in this time I take a shower, because gross. I also eat lunch at my laptop, doing blog consulting calls over the phone or on Google Hangouts, and have calls with brands. This is also when I will post a photo to Instagram and take Instagram photos. I also schedule out my pins through Tailwind.
5:30 PM: Andrew gets home and we start dinner. Usually we cook together, or if Andrew is cooking solo I work while he cooks.
From about 6:30-7 we eat and watch a show from the DVR. Usually Food Network.
7-8 PM: I do a little more work, usually finalizing posts for this week.
8-9 PM: We watch something together or do stuff that needs to be done around the house like putting away laundry, cleaning the kitchen, etc.
9 PM: We get in bed, doing our daily couples Q&A question, and usually watch Friends until we fall asleep.
Then we do the same thing the next day!
The day isn’t quite as glamorous as some may think. Maybe for other bloggers this looks different.
I take all blog photos on weekends since Andrew is my photographer. I also do most of my blog post writing on weekends because that’s what works for me.
If you have any posts about your work day I would love to see them!
This is what a look at a blogger’s work day looks like for this blogger.
What does your workday look like?

I love reading posts on what a typical day looks like for someone because I love that everyone has different schedules and how they tackle work! I admire how early you wake up simple because I’ve been horrible at it with working full time now. I feel like I’ve slipped into the bad habit of going to bed late and waking up later than I would like. Great post, Neely!
Sounds like a perfect schedule! I with I had the luxury of going to the gym every day; you’re so lucky!
And I say lucky because between teaching, blogging, freelance writing, and being a momma, I have no time! I’m so impressed with your dedication though. I miss those days sometimes.
I need to get to the gym! I am up at 7:30 and just working, working, working!
I love this! My day is pretty similar (morning workout, working from home), etc…
I did a day in the life post at
http://www.jennaredfielddesigns.com/blog/2016/04/01/a-day-in-my-life
It might seem strange, but I absolutely love these posts! They truly give insight into a persons real, daily life and I guess the sociologist in me just loves that!

This is really helpful! I plan to leave my full time job sometime next year and loosing that structure is going to be tough for me. Good to see an example, gives me something to use as a template!

My workday includes a full time job so all of my blogging happens after work and on the weekends, with the social posting/sharing happening before work.
I’m a bit jealous of your flexibility! I have to be at work around 7:45am, so fitting out a workout in the morning (and then shower) is a bit difficult for me. I typically workout after work, but it would be SO great if I could workout in the morning and not have to get up before the sun.
This sounds like a really awesome day to me! Sometimes I wish I could be a full-time blogger but it’s very hard to think about leaving my well paying job (that I even enjoy sometimes!). My blogging usually happens when I get home from work and before dinner, or else late at night. I do a lot of pre-writing of posts on the weekends or the random Wednesdays that I sometimes have off (like today!) I’m so impressed by your dedication to working out as well – I would find it a lot harder to convince myself to go to the gym if I had to drive 30 minutes to get there!
I love looking into people’s daily routines. Each day of the week is different for me, but usually I get up at 5am to teach or go to my full-time job and my days usually end at 8pm. Blog work is done throughout the day and I’ve tried to be more diligent about scheduling time to write!
Sounds like a wonderful day! I’m stuck at from 8-5 but am getting closer and closer to quiting and just being a freelance writer!
I do accounting consulting but currently I’m working remote so my day isn’t so different from some bloggers. I generally get up around 8am and then begin working around 8:30am. I usually work until 6pm and then go to the gym after work with my boyfriend and then cook dinner/watch tv/ and blog at night. Thanks for sharing, I’m so nosy I love reading other people’s schedules haha

I am so ready for my summer to start so that my day is a little less hectic. Mine is similar, but with my 8-4 job in between. 😉
This is an interesting read! I guess as a travel blogger, content writer, social media consultant and so on that I am it all depends on how we manage our 24hrs in a day. I love how you have added the “normal” aspects of daily life that you too have to do as well as keeping on top of every email, tweet and trending hashtag, as well as keeping commitments to brands.
Its not something people think of often, everyone just see’s those wonderful “insta pics” the sunsets and prettily edited images. Its not all glitz glam and 5* travel, I mean it would be great if it was but if you’re like me you’re also working two or at least another job on top of the work you’re doing now to keep up with the bills that Blogging doesnt pay?
It’s different for us all but it was so refreshing reading this post and hearing how someone else goes about their day in the same industry but different environment.
Brilliant post!
Thank you!

Your schedule works for you and that’s great! Do you use an editorial calendar or write your post that day?
I love seeing people’s daily routines. It gives such an insight into how their lives/brands function.
I love this post. I wish my day was as put together. I have a 3 yr old and it’s summer, ah. My schedule is all over the place. So, you blog full time? I’d love to interview you soon. I’m doing a round up in a few weeks. Nice post.
I am either incredibly nosy or… okay, I’m nosy (I can’t complete the “or” part). I love seeing what other people do during the day, and how they tackle their projects. Thanks for sharing!
Great post. I still work full time (I’m leaving my job soon though to go to grad school in the fall), so I do all of my writing at night. Like you, I do all of my photoshoots on the weekends (except for the food, because I can kinda do that whenever!). If I get home from work + working out at 7, my schedule is then dinner, responding to emails, and then writing the next day’s post. I usually wrap up around midnight or so and then start the whole thing over again the next day at 8AM. Looooonggg days.

Love seeing how everyone’s day goes about. Seems like a great schedule!
Why are these posts so interesting? Haha- I’m so nosy and just LOVE the little details of people’s lives.
I always try and stick to a routine like this on my work from home days but somehow something always comes up to throw me off schedule!

Your schedule sounds great! I wish I could have a more intense schedule like this one but as a WAHM it’s more important that my son comes first… Such is life. 😉
i think post like this are really great, especially for new bloggers who maybe think it’s going to be something different.
Great routine…I work almost full time so keeping a schedule for blogging is quite challenging..and I am having a hard time posting as often as I would like.
Thanks for sharing…gave me some insight on how to change up some things!

I love reading posts like this too….it’s interesting to see how bloggers manage everything! I work full time (not on my blog) so my day is a little more routine. One day!

I love seeing how other bloggers do their thang! I manage a full time job in the middle so my day is more:
6am – up, coffee, catch up on social, plan social for the day
6:30 – shower, makeup, breakfast, some pinterest, off to work
8 – 4 – work. Maybe an insta break and catch up with facebook groups during my lunch if I have time
4-5pm – gym/pilates
5-7pm – cooking and dinner
7pm – 8pm – PMP studying/work
8pm – 10:30 – mix of blog and personal time depending on the day.
the bulk of my post writing and planning happens on Saturday and Sunday around my errands. Usually at the beginning of the month I’ll make a list of everything I want to write, and create drafts with some bullets and plan photos I’ll need to use my time effectively
oh the glamour 😉
After being at this for over 10 years I have found that everyone approaches their day differently. For me I juggle kids, family, job outside of the home and blogging full time so I work when I can.
I find it very interesting that you do your writing on the weekends instead of during the week while your husband is at work. I do take my pictures on the weekends as well but only because the light is good at noon and I am at work during the week. But on the weekends I use it as time away from my blog and focus on my family instead. I need that separation. But I am glad you found what works for you.
I love hearing about others’ schedules and daily routines. With a 3 year old and an 8 month old, my day is usually all over the place (unless we have an appointment). I blog when my babies sleep at night since naps are hard to come by at my house!
You have an early start to your day! I’d love to have a more flexible schedule like this!
Great schedule! I admire you for waking up early, I struggle with that sometimes, but when I do I feel so much more accomplished!
So intersting to see what other bloggers days look like. Mine varies from day to day with the kiddos, but I’ve been working an awful lot lately!
Fun post to get a glimpse of a day in the life! I’m a newbie blogger and work a full time job too. I’d love to learn more about how to boost traffic and get the attention of brands! Tracy
I blog from home full-time and my day looks about the same! When you work from home it’s hard to put down the computer and start working, but it’s necessary! Great read!

Love posts like this! I hope to blog full time from home someday but for now I am still working that 9-5 so your schedule sounds wonderful to me haha
xoxo, Jenny
I love looking at others schedules. I typically get up at 5:30ish and start getting things ready for the day, make my coffee, eat some breakfast. Then depending on how the day has gone I either go ahead and do my Yoga (sometimes I have to wait until everyone leaves). Then I get started on sharing my posts on social media, commenting and reading other blogs I follow. I also throw in a minimum of hour dedicated to my Norwegian studies and an hour to my herbalist studies. Around 3pm or so I start working on dinner. The kids come home around 4ish and then we sit down for our family meal. After that its all about the kids routines and calming them down for bedtime. Eventually around 9:30 or 10 I head to bed.
It’s so interesting and fun to see how bloggers schedule their day. We tend to be busy and get a lot done.
Since I have multiple gigs in addition to blogging, my day is incredibly hectic. I have two VAs helping me because I wouldn’t be able to get much done if I had to do it all. Frankly, I like your schedule! 🙂
It’s always neat to take a peek behind the curtain to see how other bloggers do it. I really need to start batch writing my posts – even if I have topics planned out, I write them off the cuff the day I post them and between writing and editing pics, then social sharing, and FB share groups (and reciprocating), I’m getting so overwhelmed – my schedule feels so out of control!
Thanks for sharing your typical day – it’s a good starting point for me to refine my schedule!
I write some posts on the weekend too. I work most mornings from 6:30-8 then I Daily Burn at 8. I usually walk the dog around 7:15. I do homeschool lessons with my girls from 9 until lunch. I pop onto FB to share something on my page. I work with girls until around 2. I get back to work from 2 to 4. I work about 3-4 hours a day. I will work after bedtime if needed. I schedule Twitter for the month on the last Friday, and the I add new tweets as the month goes on including RTs.
I do shower twice a day. 🙂
My day is somewhat very similar to this. I always love seeing how other bloggers days go. I have been meaning to write a day in the life post. I will have to do that soon!
Thanks for sharing this! I think people think bloggers spend a couple hours per week posting on social media and that’s it! No, it’s a full-time job! Thanks for sharing the reality of bloggers everywhere.
I have a very hectic schedule, a life of a blogger, an entrepreneur, a VA, a mother and a wife! I am a busy bee!
I find it so interesting to see how the bloggers spend their days since we are really the only ones who get what our job is truly like. I work from sun up to sun down and I sometimes work until 2 in the morning but its all about the hustle.
La Belle Sirene
Busy! On top of 3 children and my 9-5, my blogging day doesn’t start until well after 8pm
It sounds like you are on a fairly structured, productive schedule, so kudos to you! It is interesting that some people have difficulty understanding that those of us who work from home really do WORK from home! We just usually have more flexible schedules and fit our work into our lifestyle, instead of our lifestyle around our work.
I remember those days! Now my days are insane because of the kids… I wouldn’t change it for the world, but I miss lying in bed at night watching Food Network!
I work remotely, and try to run my blog and have recently seen a huge increase in clients for my nutrition coaching! All this to say I would love for blogging and coaching to be my full time job!
I love your life! 🙂
Thank you for sharing! I really enjoyed reading about your day. My days are so chaotic and unorganized! I wouldn’t even know where to begin.
