This is national bike month! Did you know that? This week in Dallas is actually national Bike to Work week! I’m really excited to be working with goodnessknows, which this spring/summer is encouraging people across the country to try something new by participating in their local Bike to Work activities. Andrew and I got new bikes when we bought our house because our neighborhood is perfect for biking. Having bikes was something we wanted since we met. Andrew used to live in San Francisco and biked all the time. He also biked a lot in college here in Dallas. I probably had not ridden a bike in 10 years when we got our bikes. Now that we have them I can’t imagine NOT having them. I wanted to share a few advantages of biking that I have found. If you read yesterday’s post you know that fitness is really important to me, and biking is a huge part of that.
1. Exercise: I mean the first is obviously exercise. Biking to me is one of the most fun ways to get some exercise in and spend time outside. The time really flies, and especially if you are biking with someone. Biking with Andrew is really fun because we can bike somewhere and have a picnic or just bike and talk. It really makes us to look forward to exercising, so if you are having trouble finding exercises you like consider getting a bike!
2. Fresh Air: Going to the gym or a boutique fitness class is fine and good, but nothing beats fresh air. I have talked a lot on the blog about how spending time outside is a big priority for me, and one of the reasons is just being out in the fresh air puts me in a good mood. Sure some days it’s rainy or cold and you just can’t workout outside, but when you can you should. Fresh air really does you good!
3. Working up a healthy appetite: I will say that biking makes me super hungry and also sore. Seriously, if you haven’t ridden a bike in a while, go bike for an hour and see how sore you are! One of my favorite things to do is bring goodnessknows bars with us when we bike. This delicious and amazingly satisfying snack combines the goodness of whole nuts, real fruit, toasted oats, and dark chocolate. They are easy to stop and have a few bites of without having to come back home. They come in three great flavors and really taste good. I am kind of a granola bar freak and finding new ones that I love is something I am always on the lookout for! My favorite are the Cranberry Almond Dark Chocolate kind! SOOOO good!
The advantages of biking are really things that will make exercise more fun and enjoyable!
A few things to remember when you are biking:
- Make sure you are wearing a helmet and protecting yourself
- Make sure your bike is ready by using the ABC check method: Air, Breaks and Chain!
- Pack some snacks, like goodnessknows bar mentioned above #TryALittleGoodness trust me!
- Stay hydrated. Drink lots of water
- Carry your cell phone (you never know!)
- Try new routes! Keep it fun!
- Wear the right clothing and shoes

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of goodnessknows. The opinions and text are all mine.
I love biking. I don’t do it outside anymore, but I have an exercise bike in my office that I use daily! Biking outside is so nice though…being in the sunshine and fresh air is the best!
I have a bike back home in my parent’s garage. I wish I had a place to store it where I live now because I’d love to go for bike rides this summer!
I’ve always wanted to get more into biking! We bought new bikes last summer and have barely used them. LOL
I am so in love with my new bike and take every chance to ride it! Such a great exercise and a great way to clear your head!
I don’t have a bike right now, and I wish I did! I loved riding when I was a kid. 🙂
My husband and kids are all big fans of biking. It’s been years since I pulled my own out of the garage! I need to get back out there!
I would love to take up bike riding again. I haven’t done this in a long time. I wanted to see a picture of your bike — your golden Schwinn has me intrigued. 🙂
