Correcting the Past

Like most teenagers I got braces around age 13. Fast forward over the next 4 years of appointments, not doing what I was told (oops) and then finally getting them off at age 17. Yes, I wore braces for 4 years! Mainly because I was not what’s the word? Responsible.

I remember the day I got my braces off like it was yesterday. That feeling of being able to run my tongue along my teeth and how smooth it felt. Knowing that I would be going to school and just couldn’t wait to smile at everyone to show off how fantastic my teeth looked and how great I felt. And then I got my impressions done for my retainer and I was sent on my way.

Well I did not wear said retainer much. The first month or two I was diligent about it and that faded once I went away to college the next year.

SO here I sit with teeth I hate and a mouth I am not fond of. But over the next 14 months I am partnering with the Invisalign® brand (full disclosure, I received complimentary treatment in exchange for sharing my story with you) and I’m getting a redo! Yes I am getting Invisalign clear aligners, so this time I can be responsible and have a smile I love.

I chose Invisalign treatment for a few reasons. One, I like how speedy the process is. It usually takes anywhere from 9-18 months depending on the severity of your situation. Considering my braces took several years, I did not want to go that route again. Also I like that people can hardly tell I’ll be wearing Invisalign clear aligners. That is a huge factor when you are 31 and straightening your teeth.

I had my consultation and scans a few weeks ago with Dr. Kanabar in Dallas and it went really well.

I am so excited to be sharing this journey on my blog and I look forward to keeping everyone updated along the way. This is a huge deal for me and I am so grateful for this opportunity. This is something I have wanted to do for at least 5 years and I am so excited to begin this journey.

I am partnering with Invisalign brand, however all thoughts and opinions are my own. Full disclosure.

I wore invisalign in law school and loved it. Was over for me in 13 months. And this time around I got a permanent bottom retainer.

My Mom was a widow so we could never afford braces. I wish I could do what your doing to fix my mouth but no money for something so expensive. I just don’t smile and never allow photos having to live with crooked teeth. It’s horrible. Best of luck on your journey.

Beyond jealous that you get invisalign. I have to have my jaw broken so no orthodontist even will put anything on without me deciding to move forward with double jaw surgery. Sad face..

That’s awesome! I never wore braces, but did have a retainer at night Now, my teeth have started shifting, and I think I may need to see an orthodontist. Maybe this would work for me!

  10. I know the feeling! I had two sets of braces. The first set when I was in the 3rd grade and the second in junior high. I did a fairly good job of taking care of them afterwards but wisdom teeth decided to move in and squeeze them all together. Boooo. This is really neat, I’m looking forward to seeing how it goes for you!

  12. I’m right there with you! I stopped wearing my retainer when I had my tonsils out at age 16. My bottom teeth shifted and are now crooked. I guess we all make these mistakes, huh? Awesome that you get to try out Invisalign! I’ve heard great things about it!
