Dear Mrs. Weaver,

Did you know that you changed my life when I was six years old? Did you know that you have continued to mold and change it since?

Mrs. Weaver did you know I was really scared to go into first grade? I didn’t understand that you got a new teacher every year. I really loved my teacher from Kinder and I was afraid you weren’t going to be as nice as her. Mrs. Weaver did you know that all my friends from Kinder went into a different first grade class and I didn’t know anyone in your room? I was so scared that first grade would be hard and be scary not knowing anyone but you made me feel better.

Mrs. Weaver did you know that when you told my mom she had to stop picking out my clothes for me and let me dress myself it was the best day ever, thank you for that. It was the best kind of six year old freedom. She also let me do my own hair. Mrs. Weaver thank you for not telling the other kids my parents were getting a divorce. No one else had divorced parents and I was so hurt and confused and I didn’t understand what was happening. You made me feel better.

Mrs. Weaver did you know that it meant the world to me that you stayed in touch after you left Kramer. Not many teachers care enough about their students to stay in touch and check in on them after they leave the classroom. 2nd grade was really tough because that mean teacher called us stupid when we didn’t know the answers but you made sure I was ok.

Mrs. Weaver did you know that when you came to my high school and college graduations it meant everything to me. It meant that you still cared all those years later even when you weren’t teaching anymore. You still wanted to see “your baby” graduate. Mrs. Weaver did you know that when mom got sick and you showed up at the hospital and sat next to me in that waiting room and talked to me and held my hand thats all I needed? How did you know that? How do you know all the answers?

Mrs. Weaver you’ve always known all the answers. You’ve always known the right way for me. Mrs. Weaver did you know you were the best teacher I ever had? Mrs. Weaver did you know you changed my life?

Thank you Mrs. Weaver.

  1. Yep! His name is Doc Farmer. He is the one that showed me I could be anything I wanted and still be an original at the same time. Thank you Doc!

  2. My Senior English teacher in high school was that person to me. Although I didn’t get to have interactions with her until my last year before I graduated, she has kept up with me and I her ever since. She offered me a job to help her and a friend renovate/rehab/make ready little houses for lower income families. I even renovated a fixer upper that she was going to live in herself. What a wild summer that was!! So I totally get the bond you all have!

What an amazing post!! I only hope and dream that I can be that person to young kids. That teacher for me is now my coworker. She made me a theatre teacher myself! 🙂
