December 18th is a really special day in our house. It is the anniversary of our engagement. Two years ago on December 18th Andrew proposed to me. It was one of the best days of my entire life! You can read about our engagement night here. Well last year on December 18th I am pretty sure we just stayed home and cooked dinner and celebrated that way. It was so recent after our wedding that we didn’t do anything major.
This year for our first wedding anniversary we wanted to stay true to the gift traditions and do something with paper. I got Andrew tickets to a cooking class at Sur La Table. Andrew got me tickets to do a carriage ride in Highland Park (a fancy Dallas neighborhood) to look at Christmas lights. It is something I have always wanted to do. Every year we talk about it, but always decide it’s too expensive right before Christmas and we shouldn’t spend the money. For the past few weeks, I had been counting down the days till we were going on our carriage ride! Andrew purposely scheduled it to be on the anniversary of our engagement. We started with dinner at Mi Cocina, one of our favorite Dallas restaurants, and then we walked around some shops for a bit to kill time. Then Andrew said he wanted to make one stop on the way. Well once he started driving I thought he just wanted to show me some lights that weren’t going to be on the carriage ride. He took me to the bridge he proposed on and we walked around it for a bit reminiscing. It was lovely!
Next up was the carriage ride, but not before we sipped on some hot cocoa they provided. The carriage ride was very fun. The lady who led it was great and pointed out some neat houses to us, like Cowboys President, Stephen Jones (Jerry’s son) house, as well as the person who owns the Michaels Craft stores. Random I know. We bundled under a blanket and listened to Christmas music while we rode all over Highland Park looking at stunning lights. I only snapped a few pictures because I was really just trying to enjoy it.
