These are some of my favorite posts to read by other bloggers, so today I am sharing a little about my fitness journey and where I am today. Also a few fitness goals I have for the future.
My Fitness Journey
I was not what one may call a super athletic young person. I danced, was a cheerleader, dabbled in a few sports but never was really into fitness. When I went to college I would go work out at our fitness center a few times a week with my roommate or go running on the track, but again nothing really consistent. I guess I was lucky and had a higher metabolism then because I ate like crap and never really worked out.
When I was about 22 I got more into working out after taking an aerobics class in college as part of a credit requirement. Basically it was PE in college.
I joined a gym not long after and would go a few times a week. I didn’t really know what I was doing though. I still ate like complete crap.
The turning point was around the time I turned 26. This was also right after I started my blog and started really reading blogs. I read A LOT of healthy living blogs at the time. I changed my diet, added in daily green smoothies (8 years strong on this), and really got into fitness and learning more about it.
I started really working out harder and learning more about weight lifting, cardio, and classes. I had a personal trainer for a while who really showed me what I was capable of and how to use certain machines.
This was 8 years ago and things have only improved. Currently I am in the best shape I have ever been in (even after having a baby)! I love fitness, working out, and pushing myself. I look forward to my time at the gym or taking a new class.
On this fitness journey I also learned how important the right shoes are. I have some knee problems so I can’t just throw on any pair of shoes. Recently I was sent a pair of Hoka ONE ONE Mach shoes. They are lightweight but perfect for cardio, weight training, and getting around. Plus this blue color is AMAZING and such a fun spring pop! They give amazing support and really have shown me the difference in the type of shoe I need to be wearing when doing specific kinds of workouts. It has maximum cushion and super responsiveness in a lightweight shoe. These are for sure shoes I would recommend if you have any knee issues and need something to give you more support. As soon as I put them on I could not get over how comfortable they were and how much support I felt right away.
While I truly believe my fitness journey is only beginning I really can’t wait to see where it goes!
A few of my fitness goals:
- Continue yoga practice twice a week at home or in a class
- Get back to doing a barbell strength class at the gym at least once a week
- Push myself more in all aspects of working out and fitness
- Get back to running
- Go to a yoga retreat
