My Sleep Routine

Liam started sleeping through the night super early on. By 12 weeks he was sleeping 7-7. Once his sleep was under control I had to start working on my own. While I am the epitome of a morning person, and prefer to get in bed by 8, falling asleep doesn’t always come easy for me. I want to share my sleep routine for those of you who may need a little help winding down.

My Sleep Routine

First of all, I think the most important thing is being on the same page with your significant other if you have one you live with. I know Andrew and I don’t necessarily GO TO SLEEP at the same time, but we wind down and get in bed at the same time.

First of all, after dinner I try to clean up the kitchen ASAP. That way it’s not too late when I am wanting to get ready for bed and the kitchen is still a mess.

Then I head into our bathroom and do my skincare routine (updated routine coming soon), brush and floss my teeth, and get clothes ready for the next morning. I always love having my clothes already out when I wake up! Pro tip!

Then I get in bed and spray my pillow with this stuff. I swear it works!

I try to drink a ton of water before bed as well.

Then I read for about 30 minutes. I know my eyes will start to get tired around that time.

Andrew and I also try to always do our question book before bed.

Sometimes we will watch a show for a bit and usually one of us goes up to check on Liam one last time before bed.

Usually I am asleep by about 9 PM. I know that’s pretty early for most people, but we get up at 5 and I have a very active toddler to keep up with.

I feel like the spray, reading, drinking a lot of water, and getting in bed early really help me to get a great nights sleep. I feel like lately I have been falling asleep a lot easier.

What is your sleep routine like?

I try to drink a bunch of water before bed, but in the end it makes me wake up. I have to run to the bathroom in the middle of the night!

I go to bed early as well. My husband and I don’t coordinate, because I’m the early riser and he isn’t, and that works for us. I will definitely have to check out your spray though, that sounds so helpful!

Oh gosh, if I drank a bunch of water before I went to sleep, I’d be up all night going to the bathroom. LOL I don’t really have a routine, though I probably should get one. haha

My husband and I usually watch a show before falling asleep as well. It’s part of our usual routine and helps us unwind a bit!

I am interested in that pillow spray. Not for me but for my husband. He is an insomniac and he tosses and turn in bed every night. I am hoping this will really help him

It’s really important to have a sleep routine, most people really over look it as something they should be doing. It really helps with more restful sleep nights!

something I’ve tried to convince my husband of but he still won’t come around is us trying to wind down together. He’s a night owl and although sometimes I can be too, I’m mostly trying to get to bed early because I can’t perform well at work without good sleep. So the struggle continues.

I don’t have a sleep routine. I do need one. I mean, I brush my teeth and fill a water cup to bring to bed with me (I’ve always slept with a cup of water near my bed at night). Problem is I don’t sleep at the same time, so I usually crash by the time I hit the bed and have a hard time getting up. I can do that though since the kids are older. I guess this reminds me how important a sleep routine is!

I envy your sleep routine because it is very well structured. Mine is extremely erratic! I fall asleep on the couch, on my lounge chair in my office at home, wherever! Then I wake up realizing I need to take a shower which keeps me awake for the next 4 -5 hours. Then I climb in bed only to realize I have 2 hours before I start the daily grind. Ugh.

I cannot drink a ton of water before bed without having to run to the bathroom several times in the night. I do enjoy a cup of Celestial Seasonings “Sleepytime Tea,” though. The peach flavor is my favorite.

This is something I need to become much better about. My kids have a sleep routine, why don’t I have one?
