This Sunday is my favorite night of the year or rather top 3 for sure. Its OSCAR NIGHT!!!!
My mom and I have been watching the Oscars together every year since I can remember. I remember falling asleep before best picture was announced the year American Beauty won. I remember my excitement the year The Departed won and my shock the year Crash won. So as per usual I will be giving you my predictions on the major categories of who should and will win with a little commentary thrown in for good measure. Plus we all know what my favorite films of the year were…
1. Best Supporting Actress: As much as it pains me and I loathe her I think Anne Hathaway will win but I think Jackie Weaver should win for her role as the ever supportive mother of a recovering mental patient in Silver Linings Playbook.
2. Best Supporting Actor: This category is tough for me because so many of the performances I LOVED! I love Christoph Waltz but he won two years ago for another Tarantino crazy film. I love Alan Arkin for Argo but he won for Little Miss Sunshine. I love Robert De Niro but come on…who doesn’t? So my pick is De Niro. But if either of the others win i’ll be happy. So who should/will win? Should De Niro will Waltz.
3. Best Actress: For the love of god Jennifer Lawrence. I mean does anyone else this year even come close? No. She Should/Will win.
4. Best Actor: As much as this girl would love to see Bradley Cooper snatch this up so we can all look at that beautiful man on stage I think third times a charm for Daniel Day Lewis and he will make Oscar History as the first man to win 3 Best Actor Awards.
5. Best Director: Unless we can write in Ben Affleck I have nothing to say here. He should win. He should I mean come the fuck on? Argo is the best film of the year(I’ll get to that). How was he not nominated? As you know I’ve had a hard time dealing with this for several months. I guess give it to anyone but Speilberg…the guy has enough right? So I hope David O’Russel wins just for my personal satisfaction and says something about how it should be Ben. Yeah Im clearly thinking too much here.
6. Best Picture: Should/Will/I will cry in the corner like a baby if it doesn’t win….ARGO! Then Ben Affleck and George Clooney get to go on stage and Im really hoping Affleck tells the Academy to Argo fuck themselves.
The rest of what I care about:
Adele will win best song
Hopefully Wreck it Ralph wins animated film…we really liked it 🙂
Adapted Screenplay I am hoping goes to Silver Linings Playbook
Original Screenplay I am hoping goes to Django Unchained
I’m hoping for at least one shocker(please not in the best picture category)
I’m also hoping there is an 8 second delay for Seth MacFarlane.
What are your Oscar hopes and dreams? Aside from Ben Affleck….Ok I’ll stop now…

I’m going for Jennifer and Bradley too! 🙂
So…I know this is bad, but I’m really mostly looking forward to the red carpet….
But I’m still hoping for Argo
I’m with Martha, LOL! Truth is..I can count the number of new movies that I’ve seen in the last year on my two hands. I probably won’t get to enjoy the Oscars, because my TV stays on Nick Jr.
i’m planning on writing a similar post tomorrow after i watch amour tonight. i have to disagree with you on best actress, i thought naomi watts was amazing!
I reeeeeeally hope that Zero Dark Thirty wins something!! I’m so in love with that movie!!
Its not question Argo, Jessica Chastian for Zero Dark Thirty and Lincoln . I think Lincoln will be a sweep. Alan Arkin was wonderful in Argo and should win. Argo and Lincoln were both masterpiece movies of such a high quality nothing elese compares
Hi ! Love this blog! I wish I’d seen Argo. Maybe I can catch it on on demand! Anyway I was trying to follow your blog but didnt see a google followers option or networked blogs. Ill follow by email but let me know if you have either of those! Thanks,
Bex
I think it’s because this site is powered by WordPress.
I want Lincoln to win best picture because it was shot in my town. Plus, I haven’t seen Argo yet.
Completely agree with you re: Anne Hathaway. She’s starting to become like Catherine Zeta Jones to me–I can’t get past the fact that it’s Anne Hathaway on the screen and believe her in any role any more. It’s just Anne. Granted, she did well, and I like what she did, but was she the best? No. I’m boycotting this category because Maggie Smith didn’t get her “sure thing” nomination for Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Came out too early in the year. But if I HAVE to pick, Jacki Weaver was amazing. Second choice would be Sally Field for Lincoln. (Shot in my hometown too!)
For the others, here are my choices best of favorite performance not political choice in all the categories I care about:
Best Actor: I’d be happy with either Bradley Cooper or Daniel Day Lewis. Both were great.
Best Actress: Jennifer Lawrence. Hands down. And yes, she beat Meryl.
Best Supporting Actor: Alan Arkin in Argo
Best Picture: Argo (fuck yourself).
Costume Design: Les Mis
Documentary: Searching for Sugar Man
Adapted Screenplay: Silver Linings Playbook
Original Screenplay: Django Unchained or Zero Dark Thirty
Best Animated Short: Head over Heels or Fresh Guacamole. Watch them both here: http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2013/02/13/oscar_nominees_for_best_animated_short_film_watch_all_five_here.html
