Operation Cohabitation

opcoSo A and I have in some ways been living together since March and by some ways I mean I haven’t slept at the residence on my drivers license since March.

All of my belongings are here aside from winter clothes and random odds and ends and furniture and I got “home” once a week to check my mail.

We currently live in A’s one bedroom apt which is fine cause he is gone all day from about 7:30-6 at work so I work from home during that time and we love spending time together at night. We watch most of the same shows aside from his distaste for my reality shows and my distaste for most things on comedy central.

In 64 days we are moving in a townhouse with twice as much square feet, two extra rooms. We each get our own office YAY! Plus tons more living space.

Now the big questions: Who’s stuff goes where? My taste vs his taste? etc…

Operation cohabitation should be fun for everyone to watch….

This is my first time living with a BOY…cooties kidding

So friends who have lived with a boy…tell me your secrets!!!

  1. I am very lucky that my hubby did not have a bachelor pad when we met and got married soon after. My advice is to try and mesh your styles together. Then in your offices you can have your style most prominent there. Good luck on this new adventure for you both. 🙂

Pick your battles! I had a hard time with Nate’s “boy things” that he wanted to display that I didn’t really care for. So, we compromised on most stuff. If I had it my way though, the apartment would be decorated the way I WANT. 😉 I had to remind myself that it’s his place, too and he wants it to feel like home just as much as I do.

  3. Compromise! It took some getting used to for us (we did the same thing as y’all: basically move in before getting a place together) to be actually living together. Split storage space, chores, everything.

I agree with Amber– pick your battles. They’re never going to do things the same way you will, but let it go. Most things don’t need to be argued about. Fortunately for me, my house was pretty well decorated before Donny moved in. But he does have a room for all his crap, I mean stuff… But there are things that he wanted to hang in our living room, so they’re there. It’ll be easier for you since you won’t already feel a claim over the space– it’ll be yours together from the beginning, not yours that he moved into or vice versa.

  5. It can be really hard! especially at first. for me the main thing was he is not as clean and tidy as I am. but it is also really fun and you will get to a point where it is super weird when they are gone for the night

  6. Ok.. so when Rob and I got engaged he asked me if I would ever consider moving to Anchorage, AK where he is from (him and his parents moved to Pensacola, FL- where we are, for a change) and I said yes.. within two weeks his parents literally sold their Harley, packed everything they could fit in two suitcases, and flew to AK. We took over their lease in their studio condo. I have lots of artwork.. from family stuff to pieces that are posters that have been framed and my Football “stuff”. Rob has a few things that he has picked up along the way and some stuff that he brought from AK. Fitting it all nicely and whatnot in a studio condo was quite an ordeal. I have really no advice in this other than GET YOUR STUFF UP FIRST AND CLAIM ALL THE SPACE YOU CAN WHILE HE ISN’T THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck Lovely!

GOOD LUCK! 🙂 I have a feeling you two will do great! Adjusting to “boy approved” decorating stuff is interesting, but you’ll do fine!

My boyfriend and I have been living together for just over a year and there has definitely been a lot of give and take however in terms of decorating and furniture I’ve done most of the taking (aka I claimed all decorating rights)…I don’t know if that is quite the right way to do it though haha.
    xxoo,
