Why I Prefer Nexgen Manicures

I have been wanting to write this post for over a year and just never got around to it. Almost everyday someone compliments my nails. It sounds strange, but I guess people notice those things. People are often surprised to learn that the manicure is usually about 2-3 weeks old! Why? I have been getting Nexgen or dipping powder manicures for about a year and a half. I wanted to share with you guys a little about them and why I prefer Nexgen manicures. This is NOT in any way sponsored, just my experience in case it’s something that interests you!

First let me say that before I did Nexgen I did gel manicures for a few years. I really loved the gel manicures aside from two things:

  • I am really hard on my nails, and they didn’t last as long as they should
  • They stripped my nails and made them very brittle!

Gel manicures are done with a light and polish, very similar to nail-polish. In fact nearly every color or regular nail-polish I would get came in a gel form. Nexgen is a bit different…

The color goes on your nail in powder form. They take the polish off in a similar way so if you have gotten Nexgen previously they would take your old polish off with acetone and foil and let it soak for about 10 minutes. Then to put the new “polish” on they use a drill and take the shine off your nail-bed a bit. This sounds painful but it’s not, however the noise annoys me a bit! Ha! Then they go nail by nail and polish a clear polish and dip in the powder and repeat a few times. Then they do a final smoothing with a drill before the last coat. I swear to you the colors look AMAZING.

Here is why I prefer Nexgen manicures:

  • No matter how hard I am on my nails, they do not chip! I have not once in a year and a half had a manicure chip or mess up.
  • They last up to 3-4 weeks. I usually get mine done every 2-3 because my nails grow SUPER fast.
  • Nexgen actually helps your nails. Something in the formula makes your nails stronger and not brittle. My nails have never grown much until I started doing Nexgen.
  • Even though you don’t have OPI and Essie type colors you can find the colors you want. I love light pink, gray, white, and navy and I have found almost identical colors in Nexgen form.
  • Once it’s on there is no drying time. They are like gel in that you are immediately able to go about your day without worrying about messing up your nails. WIN!

Not a huge difference right? Can hardly tell 2 weeks have passed.

I hope you enjoyed hearing why I prefer Nexgen manicures. I would love to know if you’ve tried it and what your thoughts are!

I’ve never heard of Nexgen (but I have admired your nails in photos!) I don’t do gel manicures, but I do want my nails to look good for a longer period of time. And I really love the color you’re wearing here!

I’ve had a few of these manicures and for some reason I’ve always been in the DFW area when I got them. I need to find a salon in Houston that does them.

I need to try this one day! I’m also really hard on my nails and regular manicures barely last a day for me! So frustrating.

  11. I’ve noticed your nails too. I see you like grey polish.
Lovely color that goes with everything.
I’ll have to see if the salons around Atlanta offer this.

  12. I just had this done for the first time and I LOVE the final look! Although I went to a super cheap place and the powder wasn’t colored…I had to pick a polish like usual and they painted on top of the hardened dip thing. I have NO clue if that’s actually how it was supposed to be done, but the final product is nice – haha!

I get the Nexgen manicures too. I go every 3 weeks because my nails don’t grow as fast. Your right the drill is slightly annoying but so worth it. I will never do gel manicures again.

Omg, I’ve never heard of this before, but I feel like I spend a small fortune on shellac or gel manis that really don’t last longer than two weeks for me. I’m going to ask about this the next time–thanks for sharing!!

  19. I never heard of Nexgen until now. It looks like something I would want to try. If it makes nail polish last 3-4 weeks, that would be budget friendly too! Less trips to the salon!

I had no idea what a Nexgen manicure was until now. Admittedly I don’t get many manicures because we don’t have a dishwasher and daily dishes wreck havoc on my nails. I may have to try this kind though!

  23. I’ve never heard of Nexgen manicures before now. I do get my nails done every 2.5 weeks, the acrylic I get lasts that long and fits my budget.

I have heard of this powder stuff, but didn’t know how it worked or that it was called Nexgen. I usually wear acrylics, but I will for sure be getting nexgen for my real nails in the future.

I tend to pick at my nails and want something to last longer. I get acrylic for that reason. Can I just ask most salons for Nexgen manicure? It looks EXTREMELY DURABLE.
