Quick and Easy Ways To Spring Clean

OK, don’t hate me but I really love to clean and organize. I know it’s not for everyone but I have always enjoyed things being tidy. I even had my entire February challenge be about organization.  With two kids and a husband and the fact that we are home 99% of the time the house can get a little disheveled. It can definitely overwhelm even the biggest neat freaks so I wanted to share my quick and easy ways to spring clean that will help you not be overwhelmed and accomplish the spring cleaning you want to accomplish!

Quick And Easy Ways To Spring Clean

Make a list and do one thing each day

I think it can be overwhelming when you have a long to-do list of things you want to accomplish around the house. I know for me just thinking about the closets I want to organize, the drawers I want to clean out, all things I want to get rid of. It seems like so much it almost makes me quit before I start.

“If you haven’t used it in a year get rid of it”:

This is my biggest tip in general. If you come across items you haven’t use or worn in a year toss them. Sure there are exceptions. We held onto baby items from Liam to Charlotte because we knew we wanted another baby. I hold on to timeless handbags, shoes, jackets, etc that I may not wear one year (hello pandemic) because I will use them. But toys, trendy clothes, random kitchen items. You’re not going to use it, donate it. Someone else will!

Label EVERYTHING:

I think my label maker was one of my favorite purchases of the last 10 years. I love a good excuse to label something but also I think it really makes it easier to organize bins. We have a lot of clear bins we put the kids’ craft supplies, play dough, etc in, and having them labeled makes my life 100X easier when they want to color or do a craft.

Make a weekly checklist:

Once I organize a space I really try to check in on it once a week. Just put random things away, throw things out, etc. It really makes the upkeep easier. Sure there are times spaces get completely out of control but a once a week check-in is a good start to keeping a space clean throughout the year.

I hope you found these quick and easy ways to spring clean helpful! If you find the task of cleaning and organizing daunting I really do think these easy steps will make a huge difference!

This is so helpful. I find the checklist thing the best. Especially when I can break it down by what to do daily, weekly, and monthly. It totally helps me feel more put together and keep my house feeling in order.

Ooh! Getting a label maker is a fab idea. I need to do that!!! I’ve already been taking things to Goodwill and the consignment shop. It feels good to declutter!

  4. I’ve had spring cleaning on my mind this week too. I don’t really need to do a purge because we just moved, so I did a giant one while packing. But things could definitely use a good organizing around here!

  5. I like the idea of making a list, i’ve done it before, but as you said, the key here is to make one thing at a time. Very insightful.

That first tip is a great one! I try to do that with my closet as often as possible: go through it and decide to sell/donate clothing based on whether or not I’ve worn it in a year. I gotta do that for the rest of my house!

I am a huge fan of the “if you haven’t used it in X days then throw it away” – it helps me convince my husband to get rid of useless stuff!

“if you haven’t used it in a year, get rid of it.” YES! We adopted this a couple of years ago and it has been so helpful around our house. We’ve been in cleaning mode for the last couple of weeks, so these are great tips for me!
