Safe Sleep

When I was pregnant with Liam one thing I constantly was asked was where was he going to sleep? Yes we had a nursery and a crib all ready for him, but with our house being two stories and our bedroom and his bedroom being on different stories we always knew he would start out in our room. From the beginning I knew I wanted the HALO Bassinest. Not only is it completely my style but it has so many amazing features without being bulky. Today I want to share with you our journey from bassinet to crib and how HALO products helped us practice safe sleep along the way.

Safe Sleep From Bassinest To Crib

When we came home from the hospital we were so excited to have Liam home with us after 6 days in the NICU. But nervous? That’s an understatement! I remember getting in bed that first night and jumping up with every single sound he made. Thankfully I had the HALO Bassinest Swivel Sleeper right next to me. Here are the things that made me know this was the right bassinet for us.

    • The mesh walls allow me to see him even when I am laying in bed.
    • The swivel feature allows me to move him right next to me in bed so I could lift him out during those late night feedings and soothing sessions.
    • The lowering wall makes reaching a hand in to pat him to comfort, put a paci back in his mouth, or just touch him so easy.
    • The soothing center, which we used EVERY SINGLE NIGHT has white noise, vibrations, lullabies, a night light, and a nursing timer! Above all, the Bassinest allowed us to keep Liam close, but in his own separate, safe sleep space.

Basically this bassinet is perfect. It also didn’t take up a TON of space in our bedroom which we loved.

Not only did he have the Bassinest to keep him safe during sleep, but we ALWAYS put him in a HALO SleepSack Swaddle. In fact our hospital did the same thing! They put all babies in a HALO SleepSack instead of nursery blankets to help teach parents about safe sleep and to promote the “back is best” message for safer sleep. Did you know that babies should always sleep on their backs and in their own separate sleep space free of all loose blankets, pillows, stuffed animals and bumpers? The HALO SleepSack Swaddle helped us practice safe sleep at the hospital and at home.

The HALO SleepSack Swaddle also features 3 different ways to swaddle your baby:

  1. You can swaddle arms down, so baby feels more secure
  2. Swaddle with hands to face for babies (like ours) who like to self soothe
  3. Swaddle arms out for older babies for an easy transition from swaddle to wearable blanket

In fact, using the HALO SleepSack Swaddle made the transition from bassinet to crib VERY seamless for us. Since he was so used to white noise and the Swaddle, we weren’t worried about moving him. We also knew he would be snug and safe in his SleepSack. That consistency made him feel safe and comfortable in his crib.

We moved him at 6 weeks because our long little guy was ready for his crib and we were too. Plus he started to sleep in 7-8 hour stretches with less night feedings.

We absolutely could not have made the transition from bassinet to crib so easily without our HALO products. We also could not have felt so comfortable and secure with our new baby at home without them. I can’t recommend the HALO Bassinest and SleepSack Swaddle enough.

Great message. I’m a labor and delivery nurse and we educate all moms on “Back is Best” before they go home. Glad the transition went well for you. I’m a big believer in sleep sacks … used them with my own kids for nine months!

I had looked at this for my daughter. We used the Halo sleep sacks for both of our children. (The swaddle and then the regular sleep sacks.) My daughter is still in a sleep sack (she just turned 1.) I think the proper bedding for babies stressed me out the most when I brought home both of my kids, and I can’t say enough great things about Halo products!

  10. This is so important for new moms. Our baby never slept with us but had a bassinet the first few weeks in the room too.

  12. This is such a great option! I’m 38 weeks now. Our room is right across the hall from the nursery, so I’m hoping the baby will sleep in there. This would be great if she refuses her crib though. I’ll definitely remember this 🙂

That is a great bassinet. We tried one with my daughter when she was a baby. It wasn’t as nice though but it was 10 years ago.

I had the Halo Bassinet too and it really was the perfect sleep solution for us! I finally moved my baby into his own crib when he was around 4 months because I was desperate for sleep. But for those first few newborn months, that thing was magic!

  18. I’ve gotten this question a lot too as we get closer to our baby’s due date. Ultimately, we’ve decided she’ll be in her crib from day one. Our current apartment is super tiny so we’re literally 15 feet away (if that) if she needs us lol We finally put together her crib today and my husband instantly put stuffed animals and blankets in it, assuming the baby would love to sleep with them haha I’ve worked with kids for years whereas he has next to no experience so I found it funny having to give him a whole lesson on safe sleeping! I imagine I’ll be giving him more lessons once she’s here lol

  20. That is the neatest thing. They have so many new baby essentials now than when I had my kids. My kids all slept in their cribs right away in their own rooms.
