I am sure most of you have seen The Hunger Games movies, right? But how many of you have read the books? I personally saw the movies first. I was one of those people living under a rock who had not heard of the books until the first movie came out! Most people take the “read the book, see the movie” approach. Sometimes though it’s the “see the movie, read the book” approach.

When I first started reading the books I was instantly draw in.

I have to admit I really thought I would be a Katniss and Gale fan. From early on I was really rooting for them. Then the strangest thing happened, I began to “ship” Katniss with Peeta as well. There is a quote in the book, “Kind people have a way of working their way inside me and rooting there.” I think from this quote on I was a Katniss and Peeta fan. The way she clearly loved him from the get go. It really struck me. She wanted to protect him. To me that’s what the whole series is. It’s Katniss fighting for and protecting Peeta. Their relationship is extremely complex and goes through more ups and downs than any relationship should have to. But that’s why the books are so captivating. That’s why the books really get to you. I know people who read these books in the span of a weekend.

For me it took about a week to get through them all and I was honestly sad when they ended.
So are you a “read the book, see the movie” person or a “see the movie, read the book” person? I really encourage you if you haven’t read the books to read them. If you have maybe read them again. Sometimes reading the book after you see the movie can give you a different perspective. I also find it kind of nice to be able to picture the characters in my head.

I would love to win this set to add another set to my classroom library!
Such a great series! I would love to win them for my son, he’s at the perfect age to enjoy them.
My son loves this series. He saw the movies first and now wants to read the books.
I haven’t read the books OR seen the movies, I guess I better catch up, huh?
I’m definitely a read the book, then see the movie type of person! There’s nothing better than imagining the characters yourself first. But, if they don’t choose someone that resembles the way you imagined a character in a book, it can ruin the movie sometimes!
I was sad when they ended too. I didn’t really feel satisfaction from the ending of the series, but I still enjoyed it!
I consider myself a “read the book, see the movie” person… but maybe that can change if I win this set? No, seriously, I really enjoyed the movie, so that’s why I would like to read them.
I’m usually a read the book, then see the movie kind of girl. I truly, TRULY prefer to read the book before watching the movie counterpart. I like to visualize the characters in my head – how they look, the way they act, their personality. Sometimes I will even hold out on watching a movie I want to see if I know there’s a book too. I will, from time to time, watch the movie first.
One prime example is actually the Hunger Games series. I also had never heard of the books before they made it into a film series. I knew all these people that were SO PUMPED and I just didn’t know why. I have seen the first two films and actually really enjoyed them, but with books/movies like THG, I think the book is really important, because I don’t think the movies tell the whole story. I am a HUGE Harry Potter fangirl, but I don’t think I would have 100% understood what was going on if I’d only seen the movies, or even if I’d seen the movies first.
So that brings me to why I’d love a set of the Hunger Games book. I don’t feel that I 100% understand the movie, and would love the more in depth approach of reading the series.
I honestly haven’t read the books or seen the movies either. I know everyone loves them, but I’m just not sure if the genre is for me. I’d love to try the books and find out, though. I’m definitely a read the book first kind of girl. Otherwise, I have the picture of the movie characters in my head when I read. I like to imagine them myself first.
Same for me, Shann! I try to read the books first, as well, so that my imagination is not limited.
I LOVE The Hunger Games!!!!! I actually did read the books before the movie. Typically I like best what ever I experienced first; not sure if it’s coincidence. But this was the first time that I pretty equally liked both the book and movie. I just liked them in different ways.
I guess I’ll enter the giveaway 🙂 I already own them, but I’d love to be able to gift them to a friend❤️
I am totally a read the book first gal! I would rather read and imagine how I see the characters in my head then see the movie and see how close it fits my visual in my head. I loved The Hunger Games! I even got my husband to read them and see the movies with me.
I’m definitely a “read the book, see the movie” type of girl. I like seeing how they adapted the story for screen!

I SOOOO agree with you on the Katniss love triangle thing. The movies don’t do a good job of showing Katniss’ true love for Peeta and therefore it just comes off as a dramatic “made for movie” love triangle. The books are so much better at going into detail!

I always like reading the book first because I like to develop my own images of the characters and the landscape. If I see the movie first, it ruins it and all I can think about is the visuals from the movie. I was definitely a Katniss and Gale fan 100%.
I loved the Hunger Games books and loaded them on my kindle to read on a cruise. One day, while reading by the pool a little boy stuck his head next to mine and said ‘ HEY are you reading Hunger Games?! I saw the name Peeta and he’s my FAVORITE!” lol
I read the books first before the movies! I feel like the books better explain the connection of Peeta and Katniss, I felt like that was missed in the movie.
there has only been one movie i have ever seen that has lived up to the book, and that is the book thief. have you read it or seen the movie? perfect. i loved the book room, and while the movie was good, it didn’t live up to the book for me. i am usually a book first, movie only if i loved the book sort of person.

I’m definitely a read the book, see the movie person! If I see a movie coming out that’s also a book I try to pick up the book and read it before I go to see the movie. And I was and totally still am a Gale and Katniss person!! Such a tragic ship that sunk for me.

I usually try and read the book first, but I don’t always manage. And then if I see the movie and really love it I’ll go and read the book after. So I guess I’m a little of both!

I am a read the book, see the movie kind of person! I personally couldnt get into these books but I can relate to other book/movie combos that I have done this with.

I am a see the movie and maybe read the book kinda gal. I haven’t read the series, but if it’s better than the movies I am all in.
What a fun sponsor!
I RARELY read a book after I have seen the movie. I usually research a bit if I see a preview and find out if it is based on a book… then I will get the book. I LOVED the Hunger Games trilogy, and the movie was so close to what I imagined in my head!
I have read those books at least 4 times each. They are so great. I was just like you. I was a Katniss Gale girl and then…I shifted.
I have seen all of the movies and I’ve only read the first book. Most of the time I try to read the book first before watching the movie. I however found that with that approach I get upset if the movie does not exactly follow the same story line, etc as the books. So I have tried the approach now of see the movie read the book. I am not sure if this is true or not but I saw something about another Hunger Game movie coming out. We shall see what happens!
I usually read the book, see the movie. Even if I see a trailer for a film I like the look of I try to read the book before I see the film! That being said I have watched some really good films and then went on to read the book! So both, really? Love this post anyway. I was the same as you, I liked Gale at first but there’s just something about Peeta!
I always try to read the book first, so I’m rushing to finish some more before the summer blockbusters come out. So much pressure! I really enjoyed the whole Hunger Games trilogy, both the books and the movies.
I would love to win a set! Actually a friend of mine has never read it and I’d love to gift it to her as a ‘thinking of you’ basket! The series are one of my favorites!
Huge fan of books vs movies! I refuse to watch the Harry Potter movies because I loved the books so much! Books def have way more detail and it’s fun to imagine what the characters and scenery looks like in your head 🙂 I’ve been wanting to get this series for a while and would love to start on them!
That is one of my fave series! How could you not love it!
I have never seen the movie or read the book. I tend to read the books before ever going to see the movie version. Maybe I should pick up these books!
I loved the movies, as each are very interesting something I never read or seen before! The entire story that occurs in each movie is excellently written. I find myself trying to watch it every time it plays on TV. Lately, I watched it for a few weekends on ABC. I still look at it and it reminds me of the Holocaust and a mix of something else. I don’t know, but it really is an excellent movie and I would love to see how the books are, which may keep me occupied when I want to sit outdoors or on travel and need to keep my mind occupied with a great book!
I have to read the books first. I just can’t deal with seeing the movie first. ?
If they’re particularly good, I’ll go back and read them again after seeing the movie.
I need these books because I’ve already got a spot picked out on my bookshelf. ?
I like to read the books first! I read all 3 of the Hunger Games books. Didn’t love the last one. The movies were really good! I love going to see Nicholas Sparks movies because I read all his books but then by the time the movies are out I have forgotten what happens so it’s all new again!
I have not read the Hunger Games books, but I have seen the movies. My sister ( a lover of the books) does nothing but rave and rave about the books anytime the Hunger Games get brought up.
I always read the book first and cross my fingers that the movie does it justice. When I read The Hunger Games series, I was a fan of Katniss and Gale, but when I watched the movies, I was all about Katniss being with Peeta.
Oddly enough I’m not really a “see the movie” or “read the book” kind of person, haha! I don’t know much about the Hunger Games series but I feel like everyone loves it!

I’m a lifelong book person so I love to read the book first and then see the movie. I haven’t read this series yet, but one of my friends has recommended it several times!
I love the series. Being a middle school teacher I was very familiar with the books and had read all of them. I thought they did a good job with the movies of staying true to the spirit of the series.
I loved those books (2 was the best) but I liked them all way better than the movies!
I have read all the books and I have seen all the movies, but I do not own the books and although I have read the entire series at least twice (thanks to library rentals) I would love to be able to pour over the pages again and again at my leisure. I would love to own this series! It is beautifully written and makes me cry every time.
I always like to read the books before the movies!
Huge Hunger Games fan here!! I’ve loved every one so far.
I have never read the Hunger Games books but have loved all of the movies. So good.
xoxo, Jenny
It’s interesting to me because people always seem to debate so much about this!! Personally I prefer to watch movies/TV based off books and then read the books…. the one time I did read a book series first (Pretty Little Liars), I loved it so much that I could never enjoy the show!

I have not read these books yet, which is why I haven’t seen the movies yet either.
And the movie that surprised me with how much I liked it because I LOVED the book was Field of Dreams (the book is actually Shoeless Joe, by WP Kinsella). Of course having both Kevin Costner and Ray Liotta in it didn’t hurt either. 😉
I would love to win a set. This is one of few series when I actually did make the time to read all the books before the movies came out. They were really awesome! Now my son is old enough for them. I don’t like having him run off with my Kindle for too long, so having another set and being able to re-read and discuss them with him would be priceless.
I loved these books! They were fabulous! I also loved the movies but always prefer the books!
LOVE The Hunger Games! I also love Divergent (even more than Hunger Games).
I always try to read the book first but sometimes that leads to major disappointment when the movie comes out!!
I watched the Hunger Games when they first came out and as soon as the movie was over I knew I had to read the books. So I did, it was worth it.
I was under the same rock because I had not heard of them until the movies came out either! I’ve still never read the books or seen the movies though!

I always love to read the book first and then see the movie. I feel like I have a little inside secret since I already read the book lol.
Personally I like to watch the movie first! Usually the movie is a let down, and the books are always SO much better. Love this post gal!
XO Corbin Tate
I saw the third one just recently, and as much as I loved the first one, I think I’m over the idea now. But I definitely agree that reading the book and watching a movie give you two totally different perspectives!
I love The Hunger Games trilogy, I finished the series super quickly too. So catchy!
I do it both ways. Sometimes a book I’ve read and loved becomes a movie and I’m excited. Sometimes a movie will be previewed and I will see it’d=s based on a book so I’ll go get the book.
