What I’ve Read Lately

With the weather so cold, and the pandemic numbers rising we are spending a ton of time indoors. I’m sure you are too! Whenever I have free time I find myself turning to books more. I feel like they are just such a great escape and distraction. I wanted to share some of what I’ve read lately if you are looking for something to curl up with!

What I’ve Read Lately

A Promised Land: I was so excited to get Barack Obama’s memoir and preordered it so I got it the day it came out. I really savored it and read a little bit of it a day so it took a while. I’ve heard the audiobook is incredible and I wish I had done that to listen to him read it to me!

Malibu Rising: This is Taylor Jenkins Reid’s new book and it comes out in the spring. It was really good. I liked it a LOT more than her last two which were not my favorite. It’s about really wealthy siblings who throw a party and the things that happen during the party. Highly recommend.

The Soulmate Equation: Another one that comes out in a few months. This one is from Christina Lauren who is one of my favorite authors. It’s a really sweet story about a single mom who finds out about this new dating service that matches your DNA. She gets matched with the founder of the company and at first, thinks she isn’t into him…

The Dating Plan: This was SUCH a cute story about people pretending to be engaged. It really reminded me of a rom com, and honestly, I wish they’d turn it into a movie. I love this author and her books are all really fun. This one is out on March 16th.

The Bookshop of Second Chances: I love a book about a fresh start. This one takes place in a small town in Scotland when Thea inherits her uncle’s rare book collection and his home. She ends up meeting Edward. I really don’t want to give too much away. Just read it!

The Midnight Library: This was not necessarily my favorite. It has a lot of hype but I really didn’t love it. It’s about a woman who is able to see what her life would have been like if she had done certain things differently. It had some good parts but overall I did not love the main character.

The Boys Club: This was a GREAT book! It follows attorney Alex as she climbs the ladder at work and becomes attracted to one of her charming coworkers.

Not Like the Movies: One of my best friends told me to read this when I really needed a cute book. This book was so cute and I love any romance that is like a warm hug. What if you had a movie written about you and a guy you had a thing for?

I am really grateful that I got to read some of these before they are released and the other ones are great ones to pick up if you are looking for something fun to read during these winter months of staying at home!

What have you read lately?

I wish I had time to read that much! I am still working on one book and a new one arrived, as a gift from a client recently. I am working on getting into “The Best Yes”, so far it’s really good!

I’m looking forward to Malibu Rising. TJR is a really excellent author. I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy The Midnight Library. That one was literally life-changing for me. But I’ve also struggled with depression for years and I think it really hits home for those who have experienced that. Have you read Waiting for Tom Hanks? That was the book prior to Not Like the Movies and it’s SO much better (and I enjoyed Not Like the Movies).

  7. Reading has been such a great distraction during the pandemic. I’ve been doing much more of it too. I’m more in to fantasy books, so I’m anxiously waiting for the new A Court of Thorns and Roses to come out!

I’ve read a few of these (A Promised Land was awesome!) and I’m adding the rest to my to-read list except maybe Midnight Library. Sounds like it doesn’t live up to the hype!
