A few years ago a friend told me about how her sister in law takes a weekend away at a hotel once or twice a year for herself. She basically just does whatever she wants all weekend. Sleeps, reads, lays by the pool, gets a massage, orders take out etc. It’s been in my head ever since that it was something I really wanted to do. The timing has never been right because we always have stuff going on. But back in January I booked myself a weekend alone that happens to fall this weekend, the weekend before I turn 40. I wanted to share a little bit about why I am taking a weekend away for myself and why I think every mom needs to do the same.
Why I Am Taking A Weekend Away For Myself
First and foremost I have had a really intense several months. Between work, kids, Andrew traveling last week, planning a school auction, etc I am exhausted. Not just physically but mentally. This weekend worked really well because we didn’t have much on the calendar and while Sunday is Easter we don’t do a ton for Easter and the baskets will be ready before I leave. Plus I will have those all done before I leave because #Moms.
The next thing is I wanted to be in an area of town I could walk around a lot in and do stuff I really love to do. When you have kids a lot of times you feel like you’re on borrowed time. The guilt of being gone away from them to have a day for yourself etc. So If I go get a massage or go shopping etc I feel like I need to hurry home. But this is guilt free time where I can truly go do what I want.
So what am I going to do? A LOT! I booked a workout class, massage and facial for Friday. I am meeting some friends for HH. Then I plan to take a super long everything shower IYKYK and read in bed and order take out.
Saturday I am going to get up early and go for a long trail walk, then go shopping, grab some lunch and then go take a nap. Probably order some yummy takeout again and maybe lay by the pool.
Also I am going to SLEEP! A lot. Not wake up early to make breakfast, not get woken up in the middle of the night.
I am hoping this weekend is truly restful, relaxing, and life giving. I will miss my kids and Andrew a ton but I know it’s good for me to do to give myself this and I am so grateful for a husband who encourages it.
I will definitely recap the weekend soon and I hope for any moms reading you consider doing something like this for yourself.
Have you ever taken a solo weekend?
I think all of us can benefit from some time away every so often. It’s so important to recharge.
I really need to do this. I work 7 days a week, and it’s really become taxing on my body and mind.
Taking a weekend away for yourself sounds like a fantastic idea! It’s essential to prioritize self-care and recharge your batteries every now and then. Enjoy your well-deserved break and make the most of this time to relax and rejuvenate.
It’s fantastic that you are going away on a trip for yourself. I do that occasionally alsos
This is a great idea! I also need to do this — to get away from the house and responsibilities. As a mom I am always feeling the need to get things done, help the kids, clean, etc. — and I also feel like I need to rest my mind.
This content is very helpful for me.
It sounds like it will be quite a fun and relaxing weekend, I hope you have a wonderful time & recharge!
That sounds like an amazing idea! Taking time for yourself is so important, especially as a mom. It’s great that you’re finally taking the plunge and treating yourself to a weekend of rest and relaxation. I hope you have a wonderful time and come back feeling refreshed and rejuvenated!
This is awesome, it’s nice to dedicate time for yourself and do the things you love to do. I love walking around town as well haha.
