Workout Motivation

Whenever I talk to friends of mine about working out I get two very different responses: I love working out or I hate working out. My friends that hate working out can’t for the life of them figure out how anyone can love working out and vise versa.

I am on the side of I love working out. My workout motivation like everyones is unique for me. For me it’s equal parts wanting to stay healthy and the way workouts make me feel mentally.

I believe the desire to work out or not work out is all mental. Some people that don’t have the habit in their daily routine think they can’t get into the habit. Some people work out every now and then. For me I need to work out 6 days a week for my mental state. Even on my rest day I try to do something physical: deep cleaning, long walks etc. It makes me feel good. I don’t even think about the calories, etc I just enjoy how I feel after.

Secondly I want to feel and be healthy inside and out. I eat healthy, I try to get 8 hours of sleep a night and then there is staying active. To me my health is extremely important.

Having a workout motivation keeps me accountable and has me make sure that I stay fit. I don’t look at the number on the scale anymore and for the most part I cut tags out of my clothes. When I shop I don’t try to squeeze into a certain size. I want to feel good in what I wear so I try to not let the size be a “thing.” I think this is important for anyone who has ever struggled with their weight.

Motivation for me didn’t come easy though. I was very active in high school and early in college in working out. Then I didn’t feel healthy, eat healthy or look healthy. Once I started working out I loved the way I mentally felt even if I didn’t immediately see the difference in my body. I started to feel so much better about myself. That is where my motivation came from.

Do you work out? Do you have a workout motivation?

I’m on the hate to workout side, maybe more strong dislike though. I want to work out because I usually feel better afterwards, but it’s getting the motivation to actually get off the couch or get out of bed a little earlier that stops me.

  3. My motivation is that just that moment in the middle of the workout I realized that all my daily problems are away, it’s very relaxing for me, also, I want to be fit, I want to live longer, that’s why I put all my energy on workout. I like it.

I need to start working out again. I lost a bunch of weight this spring and was like OOO I don’t need to work out and now I’m feeling unhealthy… Sometimes I think I was more healthy After I had my daughter because I wanted to “see” the difference by working out. Now I’ll have to do it just to know internally I’m healthy.

My motivation? It’s currently non-existent! I know I need to do better and just start a routine. Once I’m in one I am super motivated and get in shape really fast. I just need to make it happen!

  8. I like the way I feel when I work out. I am not exactly thrilled to drag myself to the gym, but once I get there I remember why I do it. I believe 100% it is a mental thing. You have to be ready to do it or you won’t. Great post!

  9. Currently I’m at a point in my life where my anxiety and mental stress is taking over my body. I have zero motivation to work out ever, and my mom keeps telling me it would really help relieve some of the stress and almost completely eliminate the anxiety. This post has given me that push that I needed. I mean that, I’ve never asked anyone elses point of view on working out simply because Ive hated it. But now I feel like it really would help me and other people feel the same way about working out which is encouraging. In my twenties now, I guess I require a little more effort each day! Thank you for sharing this. It inspired me.

I love working out when it doesn’t really feel like working out. So I can’t run on a treadmill or go on a stationary bike, but I’m all for hiking or kayaking!

  12. For me, I had to form a habit. It took about 2 months of going to the gym 5 days a week for me to really get into the routine and feel motivated!

  14. For the most part I hate working out. I think that’s because my part 7 years in the army I’ve been forced to do it every day at 630 am. No one should have to be awake that early. Lol

I’m still relatively new to working out regularly (going on week 14 or 15 now) and I find the more I do it, the more I love it – but it’s very easy for me to fall off completely and then I have to find that love and motivation again.

For me it is weird. When I work out I love it and cannot believe I stopped doin git for a while because I feel SO good after! Yet I often cannot bring myself to do it because I feel like I need to do other stuff first, like I can’t give myself that me time, and sometimes I just get in a lazy rut!

  21. My motivation is the mirror and how I feel. If I don’t like what I see I am motivated, or if I feel I could improve. Sometimes I race the clock though when I’m running and push myself harder. I know I need to workout regularly again if my energy is down or I’m not as happy. I always seem to look and feel better when I’m working out regularly.

I’m one of those people – I hate the idea and I hate getting up early to go (I snoozed my alarm this morning to not go. Turns out, it was for the best and I needed to be home, but still!), but once I get there and get going, I feel so much better!

  29. It’s been way too long since I’ve done anything that would consider a “real” workout. Chasing kiddos counts tho right? Need to get back into it because it did make me feel great. A routine helps a lot!

I usually have a lot of motivation for the first three weeks but tend to slowly lose it over time.. I’ve been running for the past 3 months, and i am by all means NOT a runner, lately my motivation is buying a new song on my ipod every time i run. It totally helps!
